AIBU to think it’s a bit hypocritical that people are protecting her when she’s visibly unwell, saying that commenting on her body is wrong, but people take free reign to comment on plus size women’s bodies?!

I agree that being underweight is serious and can cause long term damage. But it’s rather flippant to suggest the only drawbacks to being overweight are running for a bus and being less conventionally attractive. There are many health issues connected with being overweight; increased risk of Diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure to name a few.

Tbh im not sure she was affected that much by it. Good that she did a tribute concert, but I'm sure I read she didn't hear about for a while as she was on her way to the next venue and PR team issued a statement without her input.

She’s clearly physically and mentally very unwell, and has been for several years. Not helped by coming under the influence of toxic people like Cynthia Erivo, who promotes this image of being oh so lovely, but I find her calculating, manipulative and disingenuous. There was all that weird insinuation she did about their ‘relationship’ around the time of the Wicked film.

Hopefully AG’s management can get her into rehab now but you have to wonder why the actual families never step in earlier to intervene with these celebrities who are obviously spiralling out of control.

Her fans are protecting her. The rest of the comments are very bloody extreme so I don't really know what you're going on about. Obviously her team will be trying to filter out the hate comments on her own page but her appearance has been very heavily commented on elsewhere.

I think she doesn't talk about it openly but that doesn't mean she was unbothered. She met most (if not all) of the families of the deceased. I think that alone would have an impact.

I think she became much more public after the bombing and I’m sure the affects of the bombing are the catalyst for a lot of what we see.

I don't think its really open season on overweight women the way you imply and I do agree people should not comment on her body. I admit I have commented at home but to be fair part of that is because she wears very revealing things. That's her choice of course, but someone with massive thighs wearing tiny shorts is more likely to be commented upon a than someone with massive thighs and a wide cut trousers or A line skirt. For reasons I can't fathom she insists on wearing strapless or sleeveless tops that highlight her very thin frame, it does imply she is seeking comments on her body. Or that she genuinely thinks she looks better now than before, and is supporting a skeletal look. I'd have more respect for her if she covered up a bit.

In my experience (which i dont need to share) some slim/thin people are given sympathy as they look gaunt, don't eat, over-exercise, have an ED etc. Larger people tend to be mocked as they are seen as lazy, greedy, obese through choice etc. We, in the real World, know that this is often not the case. And again, men don't tend to be given this judgement! I hate it when women slag off women, we should look after each other as we are singled out enough.

We need to be able to discuss it though. Hiding behind ‘don’t comment on peoples bodies’ is dangerous at this point because she is clearly unwell. It is awful to normalise this and attack those pointing out that she might need help and support. I don’t want my children seeing her as a role model or as having a body to emulate. She has a huge team around her who are also responsible who are letting her go on stage and release her latest music video where she looks skeletal. I think we have a responsibility to talk about how sad this is and how to help her

I think being underweight is considered ideal by many women & anorexic isn’t seen as that bad; many don’t realise how dangerous it can be.
If you know a sufferer though you will know how awful it is.

I dont think wearing revealing clothes is inviting others to comment on her body.

Too many people assume she has an ED. She is and always has been an advocate for mental health and therapy. To think she’s unwell with an ED and not seeking help is wild to me to be completely honest. People need to stop commenting on things they frankly know nothing about. No one but she and her team know her health status but she’s been bullied and hounded for years and years and years. Enough is enough.

No one has free rein to start criticising anyone’s body. Of course someone suffering should be protected. Arianna has had a very tough life. I can’t imagine what she went through as a child actress given all the stories that have come out lately.
She also had to suffer the horrific Manchester attack.
There is something very worryingly and dark going on with her. Her latest video is disturbing with a chainsaw. I hope she gets the help she needs.

You get the same on slim women too. Even healthy looking slim women. Too skinny, body like a child, needs to eat a burger, fried eggs, plus more. All read on a post I saw of Amanda holdens young daughter doing a modelling shoot the other day. Plus a Taylor swift post a while back with the added no bum being a popular comment.

Then you get posts on plus size women saying a real women, real women have curves, no real men wants to be with an ironing board. There are shit comments on both ends of the scale, if anything women think they are more in the right to be making shit comments on slim women, like they are making some kind of positive contribution towards 'body positive' movements. In reality they are not, they are just making a different type of women feel shit about themselves. No 1 weight should be pitted against the other, we all come in different shapes and sizes

While, yes of course, celebrities are human, I do think think it's reasonable that they forego a certain degree of their privacies and protection for scrutiny. Their fame inevitably comes with a huge degree of idolisation from young fans, and there is a social responsibility at play when a celebrity is potentially bringing harmful modelling to the impressionable masses.

It's the payoff of being famous, and they should step down entirely if they aren't prepared for that to be part of the deal.

I think it's very difficult not to assume she has an ED when she is so severely underweight. And it is not "wild" that someone with an ED would not seek help - EDs take away logic and rationality. EDs destroy any realistic perception of yourself and your body, they tell you you don't need help, you are in control, other people don't understand. Please do not underestimate the power that an ED can hold over someone. Anorexia has the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric condition, so clearly it is not "wild" that people with EDs do not seek help.
