To just want it to be autumn now?

I hate the depths of winter (January and February) with a passion, but my god I am craving those lovely September days where it’s not so hot you feel sweaty by 8am, and you're able to walk around without feeling disgusting.

I want soups and stews and pies back on the menu instead of pasta and salads, I want a piping hot bowl of leek and potato soup with a crusty bit of bread, a steak and ale pie with a helping of buttery mash, a roast dinner.

I’m sick of wearing dresses and sandals, I have a Birkenstock tan line ffs. I want to get into bed and feel cosy, not just have a sheet over the top of me. I’m craving a cosy autumn afternoon, a nice walk through orange woods and coming back to a lovely bowl of stew with a helping of crusty bread, tucked under a blanket reading a book.

Yep trying hard to be all 'Mindful and in the moment' but have struggled to enjoy the summer. I've had to wear ugly shoes for months on end so don't even feel nice in dresses and I just can't regulate in the extreme heat.

I think I have adapted a bit, I've enjoyed very, early morning walks, but I am craving the crisp! Blackberry picking tomorrow though to batch cook for the freezer before the heat descends again. We are seriously moving further north when Dh retires.

Nope. Once the Summer has gone it's just month after month of cold, wet and windy weather. Trying to dry washing indoors just makes it more unbearable and so depressing.

Have you considered moving to somewhere further north? Greenland maybe?

I couldn't agree more! I will really really enjoy this Autumn when it comes. Let's hope the worst of the intense heat is behind us.

It’s really not strange to enjoy warm weather. The only place I find people complaining (outside of 32+ heatwaves) is on MN.

Goes both ways…but objectively the ‘cosy’ crew has it better in the U.K. I think summer lovers (most people outside of MN) have more cause to comment on this.

Yep. I'm in the SW too and this is the first time in weeks (and I mean since the first heatwave at the end of May) that there have been raindrops and single-digit night temps on the forecast. We've been consistently over 60% humidity and it's not dropped below 24 in my new build.

31 tomorrow. Yay. Can't wait...

I think being in the red zone back in June with closed schools was so awful that it's made me crave cold even more.

I agree. I like the BER months. (Although September sun can still be annoyingly hot.)
I saw a video by an American guy who lives in England. He said he never used to believe England got hot, but the sun seems ANGRY here.
I think it's a combination of no air con, buildings and pavements storing up heat and reflecting it back and lack of breeze.
I'm not mad on Jan and Feb, but at least you start seeing Spring flowers and hearing bird song

This! The temperature has been just right, high teens-low 20’s so warm enough to sit out and walk around in shorts, I think we’ve only had 2 or 3 days that were verging on unbearable.

I feel like this thread has converted people! The usual “give me 35°c and sun all year round” people are coming to our side!
The Ber months are less than 30 days away.

Ive already started ordering ornamental pumpkins and ceramic leaf decorations, can’t wait to complain about the cold, wet and dark weather (in January)

I totally get people wanting relief from high temperatures.

However, I really don't get people who prefer to wear jumpers and the long dark evenings. Oh, and candles are for power cuts only 😁

The British really don't like summer do they. Why would anyone want to wear woolly jumpers, boots and hats to keep out freezing cold winds and and then love it when it gets dark at 4pm. It isn't even as if we have clearly defined seasons in the UK. The winter lasts so, so long in this country. I had the heating on during most of June for god sake.

I love summer.

You’ve had heating on recently in the UK?! Where on earth are you from originally?!
For the UK born and bred, this is an exceptionally hot summer and our homes/businesses aren’t designed for it, they’re designed to absorb and retain heat, air con isn’t a thing in many homes. We’re not used to it and struggle

it's fine if you’re on holiday but when you still need to do the day to day boring shite it’s so hard.
trios to the supermarket, sweeping the floors, doing the laundry.
not fun in this heat.
all the while being on fire watch.
it’s just so dry here and have had four local fires recently.
as I said, it’s a world away from a two week holiday.
even the pool is like a bath.
never known it so bad!

Yanbu I can’t wait for autumn and the run up to Halloween! I love seeing the leaves change, having a cosy fire and candles, pumpkin spice lattes and the colder weather!

We haven’t even got the evenings to look forward to because the temps just do not drop.
I’m coming back in October and that will be lovely.
