To just want it to be autumn now?

I hate the depths of winter (January and February) with a passion, but my god I am craving those lovely September days where it’s not so hot you feel sweaty by 8am, and you're able to walk around without feeling disgusting.

I want soups and stews and pies back on the menu instead of pasta and salads, I want a piping hot bowl of leek and potato soup with a crusty bit of bread, a steak and ale pie with a helping of buttery mash, a roast dinner.

I’m sick of wearing dresses and sandals, I have a Birkenstock tan line ffs. I want to get into bed and feel cosy, not just have a sheet over the top of me. I’m craving a cosy autumn afternoon, a nice walk through orange woods and coming back to a lovely bowl of stew with a helping of crusty bread, tucked under a blanket reading a book.

I’m just bloody sick of summer!

Shocking isn’t it. I’m off to Ireland tomorrow for two nights and it’s forecast to rain!!! Rain!!! Joy!!!

Not consistently it hasn’t. I was literally there last week (Central London) and it was a high of 25 degrees. I needed my jacket in the evening. Back next weekend and it’s going to be 22 degrees and cloudy on Friday and Saturday. I’m gutted because I’m going to a rave on Saturday and hate carrying a jacket but I’ll need to so I don’t freeze on the walk home.

Well then you don’t need to wait until autumn. The weather is turning to shit next week in most parts of the country.

I snapped out of the twee cosy autumn loving when I unaccountably developed SAD in my mid 20s. I don't particularly enjoy heatwaves either but no amount of chunky knitwear and steaming mugs of hot chocolate makes up for having to sit next to a special lamp like a lizard just so I'm not too sad to function.

Not here. Apparently it’s going to rain next Saturday then more of the same.

We don't have the sapping relentless heat here in South Yorkshire, the nights are a lot fresher and I don't want soups, stews and feeling claustrophobic "cosy" either.

However, we need rain - lots of it (at night only please). The fields are crispy, we have too many wildfires and the livestock can't graze. The price of meat and milk will rocket.

Never been a sun lover and spring/autumn have always been my favourite seasons but unfortunately, spring seems to be starting earlier and getting warmer/drier and autumn is a desperate time with nature trying to recover before winter.☹️
These long, hot days are not great and a heatwave is my idea of hell.

Agree. Just desperate for skme rainy weather in suffolk, and feel like I've been hibernating from the heat for the whole summer. Also totally sleep deprived....

Not sure where ‘here’ is. I’m keeping an eye on London. It’s not ‘hot’ from Wednesday to Sunday next week. Or not what I would consider hot at all.

I think a big part of it is lifestyle. If you go out at night a lot (as I do), you remember all the times you needed a jacket and the times you forgot your jacket and were absolutely freezing. Despite it having been a lovely 26 degrees during the day.

I've just got back from a very unpleasant train journey where you could see the sweat literally dripping off people. It was grim.

I don't feel the heat and all my hobbies are at their most busy in summer.

Where i am in the South East we've had no rainfall for what feels like months, it always misses us. We have had continuous hot weather since May and everywhere is looking yellow and parched, even the trees are looking sad and wilted.

I can't remember the last time I wore jeans or socks or anything other than shorts or summer dresses (or slept without the fan on).

I usually love summer, as I can potter about doing gardening (no point as we are in a drought) or walking (been way too hot at times) but this one has been relentless and I'm bored now and am looking forward to autumn.

Some decent rain for a few days would be lovely, let the plants, trees and grass recover.

No. Just no. We're having the best summer in years and I don't want it to end.

I've been counting down the days until September since the 1st June (92) at least there's only 29 more days to go!
I can't wait for the darker nights and mornings...and frost! I want frost!

Have you missed the parched landscape? The wildfires killing plants and animals? Or thought that this weather has had a detrimental effect on crops which will push prices up and cause a shortage?

It's great that you think it's wonderful that it hasn't rained and it's been so hot but the bigger picture (outside of your garden) isn't quite so rosey!

OP is in luck. Much of the South-West is cold and rainy next week. As cold as 10 degrees at night in places - I’d get that duvet out!

I’m begging for it! Sadly the forecasts have been very much wrong lately. At the height of the heatwave the apps would say 26, when it was actually 35. Only corrected after the fact.

You're being weirdly judgemental. Daily high of 26 doesn't mean it's only 18-19 by 8am, it's been very humid in many areas, and it's just possible that OP may be exaggerating to make her point. There's also the fact that it may be 18-19 outside but many houses hold onto the heat so it would be hotter inside the house.
