AIBU to be deeply concerned about the recent influx of 30k+ undocumented arrivals in Spain?

ChirpyUmberBiscuit · 31/07/2026 13:17

AIBU to feel really unsettled by the recent news coming out of Spain and Ceuta? Reports are showing that tens of thousands of undocumented migrants have crossed over in such a short window, completely overwhelming local infrastructure, reception centers, and security forces.

I know migration is always a sensitive and compassionate topic, but looking at these numbers practically, I don't see how any European border region can absorb 30,000 to 50,000 arrivals almost overnight without severe strain on public resources, local housing, and emergency services.

What worries me even more is the precedent it sets for the rest of Europe and the UK down the line. Surely there has to be a firm balance between humanitarian support and actual, enforceable border control?

Am I being completely unreasonable to view this as a serious policy and security crisis, or are others feeling equally concerned about where this leads?

Would love to hear honest thoughts on how this should actually be handled!

As far as I’m concerned, these people are putting our children’s future at risk by supporting uncontrolled and undocumented immigration . I’ve yet to hear a coherent justification for it.

Where have you got this bonkers notion that anyone is "supporting uncontrolled and undocumented immigration"? Can you name names?

CoffeeCantata · 02/08/2026 06:13

Going back in a simple-minded way to the OP…

I think you’d have to be crazy NOT to to be concerned at what happened in Cueta. That event coupled with the ominous drought reminds me that in the 90s we were warned that climate change and water shortages in the south would lead to mass migration into Europe and even cause wars. The Sahara Desert is expanding and many N. African countries are experiencing disastrous droughts. Even without other political factors which drive migration, it’s a frightening prospect.

It may not be supported by sane politicians but there’s a lot of noise from irresponsible virtue signallers. In my town there’s loads of graffiti (semi-literate) saying welcome to the boat people and death to Tory scum. OK - this might be just one nutter, but if those who support a complete free-for-all are a tiny minority, they’re extremely vociferous.

Why is it that there’s all this outrage on the streets about the potential threat of violence from foreign men and no riots over the sickening rate of violence (sexual and otherwise) committed by British men every day towards their partners and children?

100% the common factor with all “these” rapes and sexual violence is being a man. Being male is the biggest factor in committing these crimes. I’m fed up of this fact being ignored. The racists who spout this as a reason against immigration always turn a blind eye to the fact a woman is more likely to be raped or attacked by someone she knows, they also ignore the fact that because of this large numbers of incidents of sexual violence are not reported, and the stats will never be an accurate account of what’s going on. However one thing can be guaranteed is that men disproportionately (by an extreme amount) commit sexual violence.

In many parts of London residents can't speak English

What areas? That’s absolute clap trap. There are people who can’t speak English but not many areas.

Before David Lammy was removed he was trying to find a legal way to hide the number of crimes committed by illegal immigrants. If there is nothing to fear why hide the numbers of rapes, sexual assults and violent crime?

What a load of tosh.

And those who are racist against the British people, like yourself also spout this shit, while turning a blind eye to a lot of recent rapes and stabbings being from those who have come here via boat! You can argue to death the fact that British people commit crimes, but we don’t want anymore criminals being allowed into the country!

My concern is not about rapes. I say that not because I don’t mind about sexual violence but because that never occurred to me. My concern is purely about numbers. Ive said this 20 times on the previous thread: where and how are huge nos of illegal immigrants going to be housed if (as we’re constantly told) we already have a housing crisis in this country?

Unsurprisingly I didn’t get any answers, but predictably I was accused of saying that asylum seekers had caused the housing crisis. 🙄

@Thisthreadhasbeendeleted ,

Regardless of the OP, why is it considered to be a bad thing to discuss what is front page news in both the UK and Europe?

It is a (mainly left wing) tactic to attack the discussing of something rather than discussing the thing itself.

This is headline news in both the UK and across Europe. It is both the first and second article in El Pais.

We have to be able to discuss this kind of issue without ad hominem attacks.

Thank you. Such a sensible comment.

If you are concerned about men committing acts of violence- especially against women - maybe you could show more just as much outrage about Brian doing it as you do about Mohammed. You would think it would be easier to do something about the men who are born here and grow up here, wouldn’t you? Surely we should have more control over what kind of person they turn out to be.

Maybe that’s what it’s all about. You’ve given up trying to do something about the homegrown abusers and rapists but throwing bricks at the foreign ones is pretty easy and does give you that nice feeling of things being under control.

I suppose the obvious answer is that Mohammed didnt need to be here and therefore that is easy crime prevention to stop him being here.

The outrage is inherent for Brian, he is here , different crime prevention strategies are needed for the Brians, the outrage is overt for Mohammed because he didnt need to be here, so the crime prevention strategy for him is to not enable him to be here.

Jumpers4goalposts · 02/08/2026 08:44

How am I racist against British people?

if you are going to hold all immigrants (because you to account for the actions of a few, you should also hold all men to account for the actions of a few. And so on and so on.

Parts of east London

I lived in various East London boroughs for almost 30 years before moving to the Kent coast.

I can assure that the majority of these boroughs' residents spoke English, often with better grammar than many 'native' English-speakers by the way due to their original culture valuing education and discipline more.

Yes you can start with the Green Party immigration manifesto;

‘The Green Party wants to see a world without borders, until this happens the Green Party will implement a fair and humane system of managed immigration where people can move if they wish to do so.’

You can the look at Zhara Sultana, Diane Abbot, the activists who stop deportations of rapists, the activists giving tips in Calais, the lawyers stopping any meaningful action.

Why did you think it was happening if nobody wanted it?

The numbers aren’t huge though… the reality does not met the narrative of what GB news and other media outlets that depend financially on your outrage will lead you to believe. The numbers are tiny when considered as a population.

The housing crisis in the UK is cause by the wealthy and developers stock piling land and development possibilities because they make more money on the increasing price of the value than they would from developing or selling. The government need to make this unprofitable so developers profit more from developing the opportunities into housing than not.

A reminder that Mohammad is the most popular name for boys born in England and Wales...

So Mohammads are as likely to be British citizens who are perfectly entitled to be in the UK and the majority won't be involved in any crimes/act of violence.

Because you’re not against immigration really you are only against it from certain cultures and ethnic or religious backgrounds. What you going to do when they start coming for your kids?

Because in British law everyone is innocent until proven guilty so when I see people seeking refuge I don’t automatically think they are guilty of some heinous crime because the reality is the majority are not. In the same way I don’t see all men as perpetrators of sexual violence.

Unlike you, I don't need a scapegoats to make sense of the world.

You are using British people as scapegoats and calling them all racist for being concerned about immigration. Give your head a wobble!!

And I ask you again…. Seeing as we have our own home grown criminals why do you think it’s acceptable to come on these boards and defend boat migrants who come here and commit crimes. Why do you feel importing more criminals for overseas on top of our own criminals is a good idea? Innocent until proven guilty guilty eh? What’s it take! For another case like Rhiannon Whyte to happen? Nobody should be taking the chance on allowing these people into the country by saying “oh well innocent until proven guilty”. Maybe you should spout your leftist trope to the families of such victims.
