AIBU to be deeply concerned about the recent influx of 30k+ undocumented arrivals in Spain?

ChirpyUmberBiscuit · 31/07/2026 13:17

AIBU to feel really unsettled by the recent news coming out of Spain and Ceuta? Reports are showing that tens of thousands of undocumented migrants have crossed over in such a short window, completely overwhelming local infrastructure, reception centers, and security forces.

I know migration is always a sensitive and compassionate topic, but looking at these numbers practically, I don't see how any European border region can absorb 30,000 to 50,000 arrivals almost overnight without severe strain on public resources, local housing, and emergency services.

What worries me even more is the precedent it sets for the rest of Europe and the UK down the line. Surely there has to be a firm balance between humanitarian support and actual, enforceable border control?

Am I being completely unreasonable to view this as a serious policy and security crisis, or are others feeling equally concerned about where this leads?

Would love to hear honest thoughts on how this should actually be handled!

And you are against keeping British women and children safe… RACIST!

Im against any migration via boat whatever the colour so stop clutching at straws

No I’m not. However there are better ways of keeping women and children safe, more comprehensive and addressing the majority of cases of sexual violence. With your simple mindset perhaps we should lock all men up? Give them curfews, ban football, ban alcohol…. ? These all cause more cases of sexual violence than migration. The issue in women’s/children safety is not migrants it’s men.

Again, why do you think it’s acceptable to import more criminals on top of the ones we have and where we don’t know them from Adam or know their background?? Answer the damn question or stop responding to me!!

And I’m not racist either so go spout your ‘racist’ trope somewhere else!

You are using British people as scapegoats and calling them all racist for being concerned about immigration. Give your head a wobble!!

And I ask you again…. Seeing as we have our own home grown criminals why do you think it’s acceptable to come on these boards and defend boat migrants who come here and commit crimes. Why do you feel importing more criminals for overseas on top of our own criminals is a good idea? Innocent until proven guilty guilty eh? What’s it take! For another case like Rhiannon Whyte to happen? Nobody should be taking the chance on allowing these people into the country by saying “oh well innocent until proven guilty”. Maybe you should spout your leftist trope to the families of such victims.

I don’t think you understand the meaning of scapegoat. If you do you’re using it incorrectly.

I’ve answered the question.

I’m also not on the left of politics although I don’t really see it as an insult like you’re intending it to be.

i won’t be responding to you again, not because you’ve won an argument (because you really haven’t) but because I have things to do and it’s pointless.

These pps are just parroting the current ‘shut down discussion’ mantra after they’ve tried the ‘you’re a racist’ line.

It’s so predictable and tedious, but it does the trick by forming an impenetrable (well, from their pov) barrier to any rational and reasonable discussion. Job done!

Oh good! That’s one less woke lefty delulu I have to argue with.

You won’t be responding to me again because you’ve been backed into a corner and cannot answer a simple question and just throw the racist card around to shut people down! Well done for making a total fool of yourself! Clap 👏

A reminder that Mohammad is the most popular name for boys born in England and Wales...

So Mohammads are as likely to be British citizens who are perfectly entitled to be in the UK and the majority won't be involved in any crimes/act of violence.

I think people are just using it as a catch all to refer to a recently entered asylum seeker for the purpose of this discussion. Its not meant to be an actual 'Mohammed'.

Im not sure Brian is a particularly common name now either

What a thing to distract from the conversation with!!

As the OP says, I am deeply concerned. Concerned about the anger and hate and prejudice that is seeping into every corner.

For what its worth, I think the whole Cuenta thing was some kind of set up. Over 60 people ( yes people) died.

Re the discussion on English, my experience is out of date. Of course arrivals from Eritrea ( for example) will not have English as a second language. Apologies if I was unclear.

Jumpers4goalposts · 02/08/2026 08:51

That is pure lies.

I've been to the GP and saw a woman floundering with the receptionist due to her lack of English. Met multiple people in east London who struggle with English. Try to ask for food recommendations and they don't understand what I'm trying to say.

There are also some very nice taxi drivers who don't really have the best command of the English language.

Pepperlee · 02/08/2026 09:37

glowfrog · 01/08/2026 21:17

I hope you’re being wilfully obtuse and not just dim. Why is rape and sex-based violence tolerated in a way that the mere possibility of it from foreigners isn’t? Where are the demonstrations when yet another woman gets murdered by their British partner?

You seem keen for a riot about home grown rapists and murderers. Why don't you organise one?

Sereine · 02/08/2026 09:38

It’s now documented to be about 49,000 and it is absolute fuck up for the UK as they are in the majority going to come to our country because we give them such a free ride. I Stress I don’t mind genuine asylum seekers, but these are economic immigrants and we are fucked. We need to cease almost all foreign aid because our country is going to the toilet.

How on earth are they gong to come to the UK from Africa? Most will go straight back to Morocco.

Unlawful immigration has reduced substantially under the current government, but I'm sure you don't want to let the facts get in the way of trying to whip up panic and resentment.

Where have you got this bonkers notion that anyone is "supporting uncontrolled and undocumented immigration"? Can you name names?

Zoe Garbett, the new Mayor of Hackney looks to be a likely candidate;

29 July 2026
Garbett used her Mayor’s Speech at Tuesday night’s full council meeting to boast: “Hackney Council does not facilitate any immigration enforcement actions, nor work with the Home Office, and never will under my administration.”

It really isn't about 'distracting' from the conversation.

If you don't see anything wrong about people using a name commonly used in Britain and held by many citizens as a 'catch all' to refer to asylum seekers then it is on you.

But then I am not racist or xenophobic or islamophobic so I guess our minds work differently...

You know this was initially to talk about illegal migrants compared to British citizens. But you should know that there are "British" Mohammads who commit crime. (Think about the grooming gangs).

British Pakistani individuals are arrested near or slightly above the White British rate.

So what about using Brian then to refer to violent men? That was once a very commonly used name! Still very many Brians around. I know about 6 of them. Or using Brian ok because it’s an English name? It’s right up there with calling someone a “Karen” in a negative way!

They dont need to swim from Spain to the UK. They can go overland to Calais, get on a dinghy and Bob's yer Uncle!!
Coached lined up waiting, free bed and board, and the freedom to spend their days doing what ever they please!

None of that is true. They are more likely to be put straight in detention centres prior to deportation, since there is little or no chance of establishing a need for asylum from Morocco.

I suppose poor Brian doesnt count?

I work with asylum seekers. I am supportive of a need to provide asylum in general but Im not blind or in denial to the problems of the asylum system, the process, the countries that many of the men come from (and it is largely men).

One talks in short hand on a forum on a Sunday morning. Its not a dissertation or court report. So Mohammed it is. And Brian

These people NEVER. answer questions in my experience on here. They can’t, can they, without showing up their position as totally untenable.

They prefer to throw out cheap and hackneyed jibes and then run away, somehow convincing themselves they’ve argued their point.

Genuine question: in your opinion and experience, what is the reason it’s largely men?

I do know the various responses to this question from a range of viewpoints, but you will be better-informed than most of us.

Yup it’s all the usual rubbish they say on every single thread. They don’t have anything else to say.

I don’t think the question I have asked has been answered throughout this thread despite the same question being asked by multiple posters… it’s the same across other threads too. All they can do is throw the racist card about or some other shit from the script they use that’s been done to death for decades now. Of course, one of them had to throw in the obligatory “Tommy and Nigel” comment, very randomly without any previous reference to Tommy or Nigel on this thread lol.
