AIBU to be deeply concerned about the recent influx of 30k+ undocumented arrivals in Spain?

AIBU to feel really unsettled by the recent news coming out of Spain and Ceuta? Reports are showing that tens of thousands of undocumented migrants have crossed over in such a short window, completely overwhelming local infrastructure, reception centers, and security forces.

I know migration is always a sensitive and compassionate topic, but looking at these numbers practically, I don't see how any European border region can absorb 30,000 to 50,000 arrivals almost overnight without severe strain on public resources, local housing, and emergency services.

What worries me even more is the precedent it sets for the rest of Europe and the UK down the line. Surely there has to be a firm balance between humanitarian support and actual, enforceable border control?

Am I being completely unreasonable to view this as a serious policy and security crisis, or are others feeling equally concerned about where this leads?

Would love to hear honest thoughts on how this should actually be handled!

If Britain hadn't colonised there would be no other people speaking English. Its a huge draw for people to come here.

Don't think that makes me a loony leftie, its a fact.

Most of the asylum seekers I work with do not speak English, so Im not sure of the relevance of this?

How on earth have I shot myself in the foot? I have never said they should be granted asylum status. I said that they, like the British migrants in Spain, want to go where they have an opportunity for a better life. You seem to be trying to put words in my mouth. Maybe read what I've actually said instead of what you think I said.

They might "want" to come over. But that doesn't give them any right to. The same way people here might want to move to the USA, but it doesn't give them a fundamental right to.

When did Britain ever colonise Albania?

Not this old bullshit argument again? Please explain how the people of the UK who are currently alive today are responsible for what our ancestors did many, many years ago before we were even born and have no control over? Do you lefties ever change the record. The “well the English colonised everyone else” argument is getting boring and old now and does not represent the civilised society we live in today.

Everyone conquered and attacked each other in the past. The British empire did a lot of infrastructure development and could be classed as FDI.

Our ancestors used to behead and burn their own countrymen at the stake. Should we get our karma for that too?

Of course it doesn’t give them the right to go to the UK or any other country. I never said it did.

Jumpers4goalposts · 01/08/2026 18:22

There are so many reasons why it is reported to have happened, and none of them relate to these migrants making their way to the UK. In fact it’s reported the majority have return voluntarily. It is as much to do with arguments about who owns the land, and/or support of Palestine than anything else.

Weald56 · 01/08/2026 18:33

Duvetdayneeded · 31/07/2026 13:27

It’s now documented to be about 49,000 and it is absolute fuck up for the UK as they are in the majority going to come to our country because we give them such a free ride. I Stress I don’t mind genuine asylum seekers, but these are economic immigrants and we are fucked. We need to cease almost all foreign aid because our country is going to the toilet.

FFS these people are in Africa, and cannot enter Spain without the appropriate paperwork, so whether they are in Morocco or Ceuta is totally irrelevant as far as the UK is concerned....And anyway the vast majority have returned to Morocco already!

Anyone listening to Reform/Restore or their racist leaders on this is a fool...

They aren’t supposed to enter the UK without paperwork either but they do! The vast majority have returned to Morocco. So not all of them then? Where are the rest of them?

Did you personally go out and do a poll to see how many people counted as refugees and how many counted as economic migrants? Too many people talking out of their arses on here. Grow the hell up and recognise that desperate people will make desperate choices - especially when they’re fleeing countries with war, authoritarian regimes and persecution. The UK and other Western countries have played a part in contributing to the horridness these people are fleeing, which means we shouldn’t absolve ourselves from the responsibility of helping those we can.

Why flee Morocco? And why should the average UK citizen have to put up with them. I certainly don't want them around us

Cannot enter Spain without the appropriate paperwork? Are you kidding? The socialist workers party in Spain just granted 500k legal migrants permanent status, none of those 500k were supposed to enter Spain without ‘appropriate paperwork’ either.

As far as people being fools, it’s anyone supporting the left wing parties egging on these dangerous situations who are the fools, dangerous fools.

Migrants are NOT flooding into Europe. They are flooding into an area of North Africa called Ceuta (that's a Spanish administrated enclave on North African territory). The same thing happened in 2021. The reason it happens is because of the wealth inequality between the nations of Morocco and Spain. It's also used as a diplomacy/bargaining tool by Morocco, like in 2021. In 2021 Spain and Morocco quickly worked out a returns deal and the same has happened today, Spain and Morocco have already agreed a returns deal. This will continue to happen until Morocco resolves it's own internal issues to do with corruption, wealth inequality and poverty in rural areas. And this is already being worked on. Manufacturing is moving to Morocco and deals and aid are being administered and negotiated between the EU and Morocco, it's just going to take decades to resolve. So try and educate the traitorous Gammon who are claiming eUrOpE iS bEiNg iNvAdEd, when it's not. What they are doing is repeating Russian disinformation being used to destabilise the EU. And that's why they are traitors, even though they don't realise it. An unwitting traitor (because of their stupidity and the ability to be groomed by propaganda), is still a traitor.....

You don’t really need a poll, it’s pretty simple, if someone crosses 12 different safe European countries to get to the UK then they are economic migrants not refugees.

Even if the UK government did something today or years ago ....the average citizen is not at fault at all and shouldn't put up with them

The relevance is that due to the UK colonizing, some countries have English as a Second Language. That has been cited to me ( in conversation with people seeking asylum ) as a pull factor.
The demographic has changed though, of course.

The definition of invasion is: An unwelcome or forceful entry into a place by a large number of people or things.

The statement ‘Europe is being invaded’ is accurate. Some people just might not like the phrase as it doesn’t suit their agenda and how they’d like to see Europe completely change in the future.

Thanks to global warming which the richest countries cause and refuse to do anything about their countries are going to get increasingly less viable but still we do nothing. It’s shameful and we can’t have it both ways.
