AIBU to be deeply concerned about the recent influx of 30k+ undocumented arrivals in Spain?

AIBU to feel really unsettled by the recent news coming out of Spain and Ceuta? Reports are showing that tens of thousands of undocumented migrants have crossed over in such a short window, completely overwhelming local infrastructure, reception centers, and security forces.

I know migration is always a sensitive and compassionate topic, but looking at these numbers practically, I don't see how any European border region can absorb 30,000 to 50,000 arrivals almost overnight without severe strain on public resources, local housing, and emergency services.

What worries me even more is the precedent it sets for the rest of Europe and the UK down the line. Surely there has to be a firm balance between humanitarian support and actual, enforceable border control?

Am I being completely unreasonable to view this as a serious policy and security crisis, or are others feeling equally concerned about where this leads?

Would love to hear honest thoughts on how this should actually be handled!

I was wondering how long it would be before someone mentioned Tommy and Nigel. Typical leftist script, it’s right up there with the “oh well British people commit crimes anyway”
so predictable 🤣

As far as I’m concerned, these people are putting our children’s future at risk by supporting uncontrolled and undocumented immigration . I’ve yet to hear a coherent justification for it.

Flyingintotheunknown · 01/08/2026 12:42

Yep. That’s pretty much what I did when you recited the Tommy and Nigel script. It’s very old and boring now 🥱

This is the per capita and data ignorer that is across many threads

nomas · 01/08/2026 12:36

Exactly. Not one person has said that but it’s presented as a fact. It’s the typical Tommy and Nigel tactic.

So you don’t support it?

Who are these non-existent people?

Can you quote one on this thread?

Spain wont leave the EU, they wont be asked to leave the EU and I wouldnt think they want to leave the EU

There is no justification for it. They try to act like the sympathetic ones, claiming these poor migrants have come from war torn countries and suffered abuse, yet they are happy for them to come here and abuse British women and children. Yet if you say anything it’s “oh well the british also commit crimes”. Go figure 🤷‍♀️

If the people who support uncontrolled and undocumented immigration don’t exist, then why is it happening? Or are you going to tell us it’s not happening?

No, of course I don’t support uncontrolled immigration. That’s the point, no one does.

Yet it’s always trotted out here.

Correcting someone that the majority of rapists in this country are not illegal migrants makes me a data ignorer? Ok 🤣

Greenleavesandsunshine · 01/08/2026 12:51

The answers lies in the middle - I find myself typing this a lot these days.
Countries like Finland and Denmark are not right wing countries and they expressed concern. We have had a massive explosion of illegal immigration, we do need to manage this a lot - a significant amount - better.
But we do also need to have an eye to human rights abuses and economically we do need immigration.
Both sides have good points and both sides have bad points, we need to work towards a solution that will work, practically, even if that means compromise. Especially, if it means compromise.

What is trotted out? That it’s obviously happening, that it’s damaging in every way, that it is supported and enabled by a hard left minority? Yes it’s trotted out because people are f**ng furious about it

ShautyMels · 01/08/2026 12:54

Danish Ministry of Justice data indicates that non-Western immigrants and their descendants are statistically overrepresented in violent crimes and sexual offences. Individuals originating from specific countries in the Middle East and North Africa show significantly higher conviction indices for rape compared to native Danes, even when researchers adjust for age and socioeconomic status.

This will just be ignored.

The trouble is we had a compromise, it was being in the EU which meant we had other europeans who share our culture to some degree.

We also have immigration from countries where they're either former commonwealth countries or have close links with the UK.

The problem with immigration via people seeking asylum is that they tend to not share cultural attitudes and are by definition in need so are a big drain on resources.

The balance is difficult of coufrse.

It’s the left that has brought net immigration down.

Yes, the government needs to do more but pretending people are supporting uncontrolled immigration is absurd.

Some on the far left do support uncontrolled immigration. Some on the right do want people thrown in the sea to drown. These views do not represent most good faith posters on either side. They are not winning arguments, they are polarising arguments.

We do need to face difficult truths. We need immigration to keep the care system working. The government will not publish statistics on sex crimes by country of birth. Both uncomfortable facts.

It’s bloody difficult to find compromise, that doesn’t mean we don’t try. Both sides have to face up to some unpleasant truths.

You are correct about leaving the EU not helping, bloody Brexit again.

One of the coalition partners in the current Finnish government is a populist right wing party. The current government is right wing.

The leftish parties in Denmark have absorbed right wing policies on immigration to defuse the rise of right wing parties so they are economically and socially left wing but right wing on immigration.

It’s like the claims around Afghans being 10 times more likely to commit sexual assault, per capita. And they don’t post the stats.

And then you look at the actual figures and there were 12 Afghans charged with sexual assault last year.

Compared to 80,000 white men in the same period.

Compared to 80,000 white men in the same period.

According to the Ministry of Justice data via LBC, there are not 80,000 white men convicted or charged with sexual assault per year in the UK. The total number of all sexual assault convictions against women in the entire country for a given year is roughly 1,453, of which British nationals account for 523. The figure of 80,000 is completely made up.

Official data released by the Ministry of Justice shows 77 sexual offence convictions attributed to Afghan nationals over a multi-year period, with roughly 19 convictions specifically for sexual assault against women in a single recent calendar year.

When independent bodies like Sky News, the BBC, and Oxford University's Migration Observatory calculated the actual per capita rates using official Ministry of Justice data, they found the following:

  • The British / UK-born rate sits at roughly 2.7 to 2.9 sexual offences per 10,000 people.
  • The Afghan rate (using realistic, updated population figures) sits at roughly 9.0 sexual offences per 10,000 people.

Foreign nationals accounted for a quarter of sexual assault convictions on women last year, figures reveal | LBC

A quarter of offenders convicted for sexual assaults on women in the UK last year were foreign nationals, figures have revealed.

Just to be clear, you’re now claiming there’s no left wing people pushing for uncontrolled immigration and open borders? Interesting , makes a change from just calling everyone far right and racist

We see you. This nonsense no longer works

The leftish parties in Denmark have absorbed right wing policies on immigration to defuse the rise of right wing parties so they are economically and socially left wing but right wing on immigration.

The nature of coalition is you have parties that represent more extreme views, however, neither of these are right wing governments the way we see them in Italy and Hungary.

These are small countries that look to Sweden and are concerned about their culture being overwhelmed. The Danes are honest and up front. They also don’t suffer from the woke scourge of being terrified of being called racist. They prioritise Danish culture, as they always have. Denmark is about working as a society together for the greater good, any culture - any at all - that seeks to prioritise itself over danish cohesion isn’t going to last in Denmark.

There are not right wing in the populist sense we see in other European countries.
