90s film recommendation for 16yr old

Over the last few weeks DD16 and I have watched a film or a series together a few times a night.

I'm not a big TV person (we wouldn't have one at all if it was up to me) but this has been lovely. She normally just hisses at me or asks for money so I'm enjoying this before normal behaviour resumes. 🤣

What films/series would you recommend?
She is quite eclectic and I dont care but some 90s films would be good to relive my youth.

She likes:
Fallout series
Schitts Creek
Heartbreakers
Pitch Perfect
Fallout Guy
Sliding Doors (this was left field but she really loved it!)

She didn't like
Warm Bodies
Shakespeare In Love
Top Gun
Dirty Dancing

I'm trying to get her to watch The Last of Us and Stranger Things but she's refusing on principle because we wouldn't let her watch them when they first came out.

@StrictlyAFemaleFemale is the film you're thinking of Sugar & Spice, about the bank robbing teenagers? I liked that one too!

YES That's it! 😁😁

Oldandaching · 29/07/2026 14:49

Vampire Diaries
Twilight

Point Break.
Bloody hell, don't watch American Pie with her- cringe!!

Yes - hard agree. What about National Lampoon’s ‘Animal House’ - a similar but less dirty vibe set on a US uni campus. I love National Lampoon - their Christmas Vacation is a great Christmas choice.

Awww I’m doing similar with my teen and have written a list for us to check off over summer. How about:

  • The Fifth Element
  • Truman Show
  • Who framed Roger Rabbit
  • Forrest Gump
  • Bring it On (early 2000s)
  • Cruel Intentions
  • The Running Man (original Arnie version)
  • Trainspotting (if you think she can handle it, I was much younger than 16 when I saw it)

I have loads of other sci fi and horror suggestions that are fine for a 16 year old if you think she’d be open to that.

Lulubelle1985 · 29/07/2026 22:30

Notting Hill
Four weddings and a funeral
While you were sleeping

Hayfield123 · 30/07/2026 13:19

My children loved Rainman and sleeping with the enemy.

PloddingAlong21 · 30/07/2026 18:54

Dawson Creek

newer than 90’s but ‘The OC’

90210

Rubberduck76 · 31/07/2026 20:35

Maybe more 80s but three men and a baby with Peter Selleck? Clueless is a good suggestion.

Dogma... what a brilliant movie.... so hard to get a copy of now (I think it pissed off too many religious folk... and they have power). I have watched this with my 13yr old and he absolutely got it. I loved it 1st time round
