90s film recommendation for 16yr old

Over the last few weeks DD16 and I have watched a film or a series together a few times a night.

I'm not a big TV person (we wouldn't have one at all if it was up to me) but this has been lovely. She normally just hisses at me or asks for money so I'm enjoying this before normal behaviour resumes. 🤣

What films/series would you recommend?
She is quite eclectic and I dont care but some 90s films would be good to relive my youth.

She likes:
Fallout series
Schitts Creek
Heartbreakers
Pitch Perfect
Fallout Guy
Sliding Doors (this was left field but she really loved it!)

She didn't like
Warm Bodies
Shakespeare In Love
Top Gun
Dirty Dancing

I'm trying to get her to watch The Last of Us and Stranger Things but she's refusing on principle because we wouldn't let her watch them when they first came out.

Some 1990s films I can think of are outstanding, just not for 16 year olds I.e. Pulp Fiction. What about The Truman Show, or Home Alone, entertaining for all ages really that one. The Addams Family, sorry but I do find that one hilarious. Someone mentioned Steel Magnolias 😢😢, fantastic but so sad. The X Films for the series, OMG AMAZING!

There's one about bank robbing cheerleaders that I can't remember the name of!

@StrictlyAFemaleFemale is the film you're thinking of Sugar & Spice, about the bank robbing teenagers? I liked that one too!

Ooh Mean Girls and Legally Blonde - my teen, in a slight reverse, made me watch these and they were great. Also Heathers! Total classic. And Catch Me if you Can - not sure if 90s but great films.

magicpractice · 28/07/2026 20:22

Heathers
good will hunting
practical magic
Not 90s but Hidden figures
legally blonde (then watch Elle on Amazon!)
the craft

Pitstopperils · 28/07/2026 20:23

My daughter also loved Sliding Doors. She also loved Heathers and Die Hard (that one surprised me). She is currently thinking of watching Practical Magic, after seeing trailers for the sequel. If looking at TV series, the original CSI (Vegas) and Buffy are both a good call.

gunsnrosacea · 28/07/2026 20:24
