90s film recommendation for 16yr old

Over the last few weeks DD16 and I have watched a film or a series together a few times a night.

I'm not a big TV person (we wouldn't have one at all if it was up to me) but this has been lovely. She normally just hisses at me or asks for money so I'm enjoying this before normal behaviour resumes. 🤣

What films/series would you recommend?
She is quite eclectic and I dont care but some 90s films would be good to relive my youth.

She likes:
Fallout series
Schitts Creek
Heartbreakers
Pitch Perfect
Fallout Guy
Sliding Doors (this was left field but she really loved it!)

She didn't like
Warm Bodies
Shakespeare In Love
Top Gun
Dirty Dancing

I'm trying to get her to watch The Last of Us and Stranger Things but she's refusing on principle because we wouldn't let her watch them when they first came out.

Freaks and Geeks - made late 90s but set in 80s and almost everyone in it has go onto bigger roles.

Legally Blonde
Sweet Home Alabama

The X Files
Sleepy Hollow
Six Feet Under (a firm favourite with Dd 16)

Pump up the volume.

This is epic. If only for the soundtrack.

Frodocheerio · 28/07/2026 10:16

The Wedding Singer
Singles
So I Married an Axe Murderer still makes me laugh more than it should (peak 90s for sure 😂)

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 28/07/2026 10:19

Wayne's World

Ferris Bueller's Day Off,

Also later but maybe Ally McBeal, and The Mentalist? Ally dealt with a lot of deeper issues whilst being wonderfully quirky

SunshineOnARainyLeith · 28/07/2026 10:31

The Beakfast Cub
Bill and Ted's Most Excellent Adventure

FlorasRoundhouse · 28/07/2026 10:36

flight of the navigator
ally mcbeal is my fave of all time
the poltergeist movies

theres a channel on youtube called 'this aged great' which takes a modern day comedy look at old movies - some have aged VERY BADLY - but its hilarious and you might find some movies from watching their videos. my husband and i have found some belters which are so bad they are good.

Edited

The Ring scares the shit out of me! Especially when I had a tv in my bedroom as a teenager.

Wayne's World

I introduced this to a Gen Z and all I got was

"Huh this is so weird"

Didn't get it at all. It's the best film!!
