Little House - hilarious??

got a phone call from my sister yesterday afternoon and she asked me what I was upto. I told her I was just watching Little House on the Prairie and she burst out laughing, shouted to her husband that I was watching it and he started howling. I said “what’s funny?” And she said “little house on the prairie!” ????

Anyway since then I’ve had multiple messages off her just saying little house on the prairie with a crying laughing face, messages of BIL asking if I’m still watching it with a laughing face then this morning I woke up to a picture message of the original show and laughing faces. I’ve been ignoring them but I’ve just seen she’s put it on Facebook and a number of people have put laughing faces?? I don’t get it!?

Blooming well watch what you want to watch! I can't stand reality TV. Cheap, rots the brain TV.

Well I’ve finished it and have googled the logistics of going over to the states to visit their house. Loved it.

It was on alot in my childhood home because my mum loved it. I didn't really follow it much myself. Does your sister like watching shit like 'Exploding Nose Jobs Gone Wrong' and Traffic Cops?

To be fair, I have the same reaction to people saying they watch Love Island, so I'm probably too judgemental myself.

It was pretty much glossed over in the books and in the original series so far as I can remember.

With regard to the Native Americans , watch American Primeval , shows how badly the Mormons were as well ( very different from Little House though )

I'm now trying to decide which is the weirdest and most unexpected comeback of 2026, Little House on the Prairie (related to the trad wives movement?) or Michael Barrymore, who's reinvented himself as a TikTok star with millions of followers watching his apparently hilarious and compelling videos of him going to the shop and walking his dog.

I have only watched the first episode of the new series so far but my first impression is that it is better than the 1970s version and closer to the books.

@AliceNotInChains is your sister either very young or very immature, or both? I remember there is an age when you are acutely conscious of being "grown up" and you don't want to be seen to do anything that might be seen as "childish". Then you grow up a bit more and realise it doesn't matter at all what people think. As a teenager I was startled once on a school trip when I noticed that my English teacher was reading "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" for pleasure. I am in my 60s now and read all sorts, but often re-read childhood favourites if I feel like it.

What you on about? I said as a child I never caught on to how badly the native Americans were treated back then. I’m allowed to have thoughts on that piece of history whether you tell me to or not. You said “we’re fine thanks” which is great for you … but that doesn’t change my thoughts on it one bit.

We were not treated badly just because you think that's what you know or have read. We don't not carry sorrow about our history like a stone around our neck. We are a proud people and a snapshot in time, based on your perceptions today, do not represent our history, culture or people. I was happy to explain that to you but I see that you just want to be sorry about a fantasy that had nothing to do with you.

I missed this. I’m half indigenous Colombian - don’t expect miracles on this forum. The British are even less conscious of genocide in the Americas than the Americans.

the remake is rubbish in my opinion. im 63 and i have the box set. i watched first episode of the new one and hated it. its now in spired me to re watch the original

Thank you. I am trying to express that we are not relics of the past. We do not dwell on the things white people think are important. We are not a conquered people. We made deals with the US government. Most, apart from Cherokee deeds, were honored. The Cherokees successfully sued the Federal government and we all moved on. To suggest anything else, when a Native American is trying to express all of this, is white washing our history. I can understand the misunderstanding. I cannot understand clinging on to it when a true Native is trying to clarify to the benefit of all. I cannot understand being rude to someone who is talking about their life and not parroting a book or a movie. We have more pressing concerns than what happened (or didn't happen) over 200 years ago.

I would think the pair of them need to get out more if this non-issue gets them so worked up.

I find it really interesting to read this perspective. As a British person I was not aware of this side of things. I realise my view of this probably has been clouded by what I have read in novels and seen in films so it is an eye opener to hear about this from someone with a deeper understanding of what actually happened.

We are a prideful people with our own schools, hospitals, nations, citizenship requirements, police force, reservations, language etc.

We do not view ourselves as a race, more so than a nation, and we do not want nor appreciate pity.

We understand that our culture has been appropriated for books and television and white guilt sells because it is romantic but it is not our story.

We should be able to tell our story as it happened to us.

If you are ever in Oklahoma, please visit the First Americans museum in OKC.

It will explain how we value our white brothers and the strides we've gone through, together, to ensure the past is not repeated. We fought together in the Civil War, WW1, WW2 and all wars, thereafter, as as Americans.

We try to educate to move forward.
