Little House - hilarious??

got a phone call from my sister yesterday afternoon and she asked me what I was upto. I told her I was just watching Little House on the Prairie and she burst out laughing, shouted to her husband that I was watching it and he started howling. I said “what’s funny?” And she said “little house on the prairie!” ????

Anyway since then I’ve had multiple messages off her just saying little house on the prairie with a crying laughing face, messages of BIL asking if I’m still watching it with a laughing face then this morning I woke up to a picture message of the original show and laughing faces. I’ve been ignoring them but I’ve just seen she’s put it on Facebook and a number of people have put laughing faces?? I don’t get it!?

Read and acknowledged. Am offering a likely explanation of someone else’s perception - someone who lacks your knowledge.

They need lives, clearly.
Isn't it being criticised for showing women and girls in traditional’ roles ie subservient?
I think it also conveniently swerves the issue of whose land these settlers’ were occupying.
I still quite fancy watching it though 😄. I remember it being on when I was a kid but it never really gripped me.

Entertaining programme is entertaining programme.

I can’t imagine finding what someone else wants to watch so funny that I would send them multiple messages about it and post it on social media. She sounds like a nasty bully.

I wouldn't care but maybe the old version just sounds like a more random and (very mildly) amusing choice without context.

Most of the ‘70s one has little resemblance to the books and even less to the real history of the Ingalls family. I always found it unwatchable, even as a child.

Sorry if I misunderstood what you meant but you twice referred to the programme (new version or old version - I'm not sure) as a "children's programme".
Which neither versions are.

I think that one might have been changed.
Although if I remember correctly that was one particular character's opinion not a factual statement.

Your sister and her husband sound a bit like that couple from the Catherine Tate show who found really mundane things utterly hilarious. “I’ve gone…..”

It had to do with ‘who you would invite into your living room before the kids went to bed’ and since many Americans had televisions in the 70s/80s this kind of programme was very popular.

DH and I think you should upgrade to "Small Potatoes".

Iv been watching this new version today. I like it much better than the original. Michael Landon always looked like he wanted to cry.
