Little House - hilarious??

got a phone call from my sister yesterday afternoon and she asked me what I was upto. I told her I was just watching Little House on the Prairie and she burst out laughing, shouted to her husband that I was watching it and he started howling. I said “what’s funny?” And she said “little house on the prairie!” ????

Anyway since then I’ve had multiple messages off her just saying little house on the prairie with a crying laughing face, messages of BIL asking if I’m still watching it with a laughing face then this morning I woke up to a picture message of the original show and laughing faces. I’ve been ignoring them but I’ve just seen she’s put it on Facebook and a number of people have put laughing faces?? I don’t get it!?

I plan on watching it. I loved Anne with an E and hoping it might be a bit like that.

The Walton’s was the same kind of thing wasn’t it with the big ole family and moral tales.
I think the Americans liked to make family wholesome shows to counter act the violent films they made back then.

The books are brilliant. Haven't seen the new series, but it is her loss not yours.

Yes, it was one of my favourite programmes too.

Is the new series worth watching? The original was perfection so I can't understand why they remade it (apart from needing to be politically correct regarding the indigenous people).

It’s a children’s programme. Mean of them to tease you publicly though.

Send her a copy of the book "Prairie Fires" which tells the more accurate history of the Ingalls/Wilder families plus really interesting history of the pioneer days of America.
Tell her "I was baffled why you thought a historical drama was so hilarious and thought you might want to read this. You might find it interesting".
What does she watch on TV. Perhaps you can make jokes about that.

No it's not.
New version is a Netflix 12 certificate and the 70s one was shown prime time as a family show.
(The original books however were published for children - but that was because the original adult version couldn't get a publisher so Laura Ingalls Wilder re-wrote it. I would say if published today the last 4 would come under the YA umbrella)

It's not funny...

She could find the idea amusing, but to howl, call her husband and keep getting on about it? What's so funny? Is she drunk?

It's seen as a bit twee possibly, but that hysterical reaction? Bizare.

What are they watching? 'Love Island's? Chavs.

Ok but that will be why she found it funny - the idea of an adult watching a children’s programme. Fairly obvious inference surely? Even if factually wrong.

what's a "children's programme"? So are Disney movies and many other things, no one gets hysterical about an adult watching them.

Weird. It’s just a mainstream show. I don’t watch any TV these days but watch stuff on Netflix and am watching LH because I love historical stuff. It’s a bit lame but people watch so much atrocious trash I don’t see the joke.

It's not a remake of the 70s version.
It's a new adaptation of a book published in 1935.

I didn’t see it as children’s programme really, just one that appealed to a wide range of people.
I haven’t got Netflix anymore , so can’t watch the remake.

I think you mean Nelly Oleson. I have read that the actor who played Nelly in the original series plays "the woman in the woods" who has a bit of a cameo role in the new version. I haven't seen the new series yet as I have been too busy with the World Cup. But I will!
