Little House - hilarious??

AliceNotInChains · 11/07/2026 12:24

got a phone call from my sister yesterday afternoon and she asked me what I was upto. I told her I was just watching Little House on the Prairie and she burst out laughing, shouted to her husband that I was watching it and he started howling. I said “what’s funny?” And she said “little house on the prairie!” ????

Anyway since then I’ve had multiple messages off her just saying little house on the prairie with a crying laughing face, messages of BIL asking if I’m still watching it with a laughing face then this morning I woke up to a picture message of the original show and laughing faces. I’ve been ignoring them but I’ve just seen she’s put it on Facebook and a number of people have put laughing faces?? I don’t get it!?

😂 I’d have the same reading

Lomonald · 11/07/2026 12:26

She sounds annoying and immature ! Is it the new version or the original?

the80sweregreat · 11/07/2026 12:26

Seems a bit childish to me op.
I remember the original series and it’s harmless enough. Watch what you want to watch.

Birka · 11/07/2026 12:27

Lucky her to be so easily amused I guess? Is it good?

It’s the new version but I used to watch the original and always loved it.

How weird of them. I’m watching it now. It’s been heavily reviewed and there’s a lot of talk about it. It’s designed for adults more than children, surely. Better than the ‘70s series but not as good as the books.

Lomonald · 11/07/2026 12:29

I don't have netflix but my friend has been watching it, says it isn't as good as her childhood memories of the original but she enjoyed it.

MyDuvetDay · 11/07/2026 12:30

Weird reaction. Both my sister and I love LHOTP, old and new versions

CatesandAle · 11/07/2026 12:31

Wow they seriously need to get lives, sounds like they have absolutely zero going on.

Is it the new Netflix one with hot Pa? (As opposed to the old one with an also hot Pa). I assumed from your title she was laughing because the new series trailer is such a thirst trap for women d’un certain age. Lots of meaningful beardiness and walking meaningfully and beardily through fields.

AliceNotInChains · 11/07/2026 12:31

Thanks everyone, I honestly thought there was a joke I was missing

I’d just reply with a crying laughing emoji back.

Gealach · 11/07/2026 12:32

They were similar with me at work! I guess it’s seen as a bit twee and old fashioned.

I love it anyway. I like nice, heart warming shows.

Lomonald · 11/07/2026 12:34

They clearly think they are "hilarious " but they are mocking you now, i would probably reply with a confused face emoji or a question mark, and enjoy your programme.

IsYourTableClothed · 11/07/2026 12:34

What weirdos.

Slimtoddy · 11/07/2026 12:35

I started watching it last night. It felt more real than the original which I absolutely loved and the books. Does it cover the impact on the indigenous people in an honest way do you think? I will return to it later tonight.

As for your sister - irritating - but wait andno doubt she will present you with an opportunity to repay the compliment!

Your sister sounds immature, as a previous poster has said. The fact that she keeps banging on about it on social media is actually bullying behaviour, in my view.

You can either ignore her or retaliate by mocking some of her viewing choices.

the80sweregreat · 11/07/2026 12:38

All I can remember from the original was the horrible girl who used to bully the others ( her family were rich )
and the start when they all ran down a hill.
It was a twee American progmme that littered the airways back then. I am surprised it’s been remade really, but I suppose it was popular.
Was one of the girls blind ?

LauraJaneGrace · 11/07/2026 12:38

Whaaaaat?

There's a new version of LHOTP??????
I had no idea.
Running to Netflix right now.

Your sister sounds like a div .

No, your sister is just being an arse.

Dollymylove · 11/07/2026 12:51

How old are they, 10? Tell them to grow up. I used to watch it and and I used watch the Waltons. Just nice feelgood shows that the whole family could watch

Harrietsaunt · 11/07/2026 12:54

How bizarre of your sister. No idea why it would be considered funny.

Oh well 🤷‍♀️

Oh how i loved The Waltons.

AWeeCupOfTeaAndAnIndividualFruitTrifle · 11/07/2026 12:57

She reminds me of somebody I shared a student house with. He had 'issues' too.

A bunch of us had been out and came back, went into the living room (without him realising) and found him almost wetting himself laughing at something on the TV. It was the snooker.

UbiquitousPistachio · 11/07/2026 12:57

It’s ok for them to be amused / surprised
It’s a bit much to send follow up messages mocking you
It’s quite nasty to mock you on SM

Hapagirl48 · 11/07/2026 12:58

Thanks for the reminder. I’m off to watch it now. I loved the books. Your sister’s reaction is weird and she may need to get a hobby.
