I know there have probably been other threads asking this, but really .... why?

Why would you say he is a "man of the people?"'(Public school educated stockbroker / multi millionaire)

Genuinely, what appeals about him?

If you voted Brexit, have you forgotten that he resigned from public office that day after his Leave campaign won?

It's an anonymous forum, so please be honest.

Even if Farage did get the PM job, he'd probably resign immediately. All very well being a man with a slogan, stirring up division. He'd run a mile if he thinks he would actually have to to be held accountable for his 'policies.'

Ever heard him talk about building better housing for his constituents in Jayswick who are living in prefab huts - some of the worst housing in the U.K? No. He's only interested in the constituents he sees as easily-manipulated voting fodder. That's the only reason he would go there at all - holding his nose..Apart from that, he doesn't give a damn. We all know, Reform could deport all immigrants tomorrow, but the poorest and most vulnerable in our nation will still be where they are for a very long time because Farage will never prioritise anything that doesn't serve his own cynical agenda.

Edited

@lightseeker I'm telling you how you can spot a Reform voter on here because they talk using certain sound bites. Propaganda happens insidiously through subtle language shifts. disseminated via certain media.
You keep putting 'fact' in bold type. My point was, that a few men arriving by boats may be criminals, sure. But the majority will not. Fact.
And yes, it is silly to keep parroting 'able bodied men.' As opposed to what?
The biggest joke are that those pointing the finger at the 'criminal boat people,' are more than happy to match and chant behind TOMMY ROBINSON - who we all know is more than familiar with the criminal underworld and the inside of a prison!
Whst proportion of the men on the TR marches have criminal records do we think? Yet apparently now, these are 'men of the people' marching for 'our women.' Anyone who falls in and chants along behind that lot is beyond help, frankly.

So much increasingly hysterical hyperbole, sound bites and propaganda. I am almost tempted to stray away from the Monster Raving Loonies and vote for what would appear to be your worst nightmare. 😂

If you support Farage, can you explain why it's ok for him to make political capital out of Ann Widdecombe's murder? Because the following statement makes it very obvious that he's using it to further try to justify his £5 million "gift" on the spurious grounds that nobody in public life is safe and therefore his little present should be beyond scrutiny. I mean please, please do justify this grotesquery.

Farage visited the area around Widdecombe’s Devon home shortly after news of her death. On Saturday, the Reform UK leader told journalists her death appeared to be “premeditated murder”. He also argued the case demonstrated that for “people now in public life, especially in politics, the world is very much more dangerous than it’s ever been, whatever the outcome of the motives of the killer”.

@Lemonraider - why are you posting that random article about some anecdote of someone's trip to India? Stranger and stranger.

Why do you need to tell me about India? Half my family are Indian. FYI the men are decent and polite to women. Why wouldn't they be?

And if this isn't too terrifying an anecdote for you - my husband's family had to flee Iran in the late 197Os. It's ok though, you don't need to panic. All is safe.

What do you and your family do that they are so amazing they can pontificate and cast people as rapists, based on their ethnicity? Do tell?

My DH came here as a baby with a family who had nothing because they had to leave everything behind. He has created over 2,000 jobs in the U.K. He has paid tens of millions in tax. He is a decent, honest man and a gentleman. We have 2 daughters. He has put them through the best schools in London and top universities. We have given them everything we didn't have as children and we have done our best. I have never claimed benefits in my life. Nor has my husband. He would never disrespect women. You have absolutely no idea. You don't understand the culture in Iran or the real people. My DH has principles that, to be honest, are lost in a lot of men in this country. He has worked so hard and his he has been driven to do this so that his daughters and sons can be anything they want to be. He has the highest respect for women and just as importantly, he has decency, integrity and self-respect as a father and husband.

As for your pathetic attempts to cast aspersions on 'Indian people' with some selected anecdote - are you for real?

I have travelled through India - I spent year travelling through India, Nepal, Pakistan when I was younger? Solo. Yes I was harassed at times. Obviously. But there was a lot more to it than that. I had wonderful experiences. People are just people, everywhere you go. What are you so scared about?

I have had horrendous experiences with British men that I couldn't even get into on here. But I don't use those anecdotes to cast aspersions on all men. That would be insane, no?

I'm sorry, but I can't take you seriously at all. Your attitudes do not reflect British values.

There are almost one and a half billion people in India. It might be worth you asking yourself why you are so quick to extrapolate from one thread on one forum talking about an experience based on a short holiday in one part of India.

They are getting upset at the collapse of Reform and are desperately trying to regain ground. Anecdotes featuring 12 year olds asking "why did that (Indian) man touch mummy?" serve as an extremely unsubtle way to persuade us we don't want any more men in the UK who are not white.
Amusing that PP felt the need to link to the thread and join the dots for us. Just in case we might have missed the point!
Next up "I just saw a baby in a hijab in 32 degrees. AIBU to think she would have been too hot?" And much more of the same as Farage continues to lose ground.

Yep. The insistence that Farage will be our next PM (spoiler: he won't) or that Reform can successfully carry on without him is increasingly desperate. I mean, I even saw Nadine Dorries on what passes for the news today. Things must be tough.

Reform was always petrified something would happen to Farage because they knew what it would mean for their party/business. Looks like their fears are being realised.

Yes, I'm not surprised at all that you don't want to engage with anyone who can challenge your views in an articulate way.

lightseeker · 13/07/2026 10:04

If you post about a bad experience in any country and ask for similar experiences - no surprise that the thread will fill up with similar experiences.

As I said, I travelled around India, Nepal, Bangladesh solo myself, for 12 months when I was in my early 20s. I've been back to India many times since. I've also been to countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Laos, Vietnam. I've been to various Middle Easyern countries. I've not been to any African countries apart from Egypt, Tanzania and Morocco.. I've travelled in Mexico and Central America. I have also backpacked around US and Europe and Australia. I could probably write a short book on the harassment I've had on my travels. But I also know that the vast majority of people you find anywhere are just trying to live their lives in peace and do what's best for their families. As we all are.

I could start a thread about times I was sexually assaulted at uni. No doubt it would fill up with similar anecdotes very quickly. Should we all stop going to uni?

In Australia, I was in a shower - the roof suddenly came off and a man jumped into the shower cubicle. That's just one incident. But I would never say I'm never returning to Australia.

Of course some places are more difficult to travel through as a solo woman - you don't need to tell me that! But as a pp said, India is a vast and massively diverse country and millions travel through India every year. Their experiences will be as diverse, complex, wonderful and shocking as the country itself.

People of Indian heritage are deeply established in the U.K. and are a great asset. Probably, on average, one of the most successful and integrated demographics of all in our society in so many ways.

I don't doubt for one second that women experience sexual harassment travelling in other parts of the world. What I do object to, is when people use those anecdotes as confirmation bias, ie - "I was once harassed in a market in India, therefore 'they' are all sexual predators, coming in on boats to abuse 'our' women." I have no time for people who think like this. Fortunately, 99% of people do not.

My Gardner supports Reform. Not well
educated but a practical person. He wants Reform to disrupt the political landscape. It’s totally ludicrous to want instability but he’s not the brightest. I fear there are millions like him.

He’s not ever made much money but he’s not bothered to get qualifications either. We are a long way from the sea and no migrant accommodation here as far as I know, but he relies on his younger wife for money. She’s an immigrant. In many ways, his views are dangerous. Lenders don’t like disrupters. Mortgage costs will go up - his wife is applying for one as the higher earner. They are buying a house in a Reform hot spot. Andy Burnham won’t convince people like them. No chance because they don’t understand economics, the cost of borrowing and what affects it or that instability is bad for business and stops any idea if growth. Yet these idiots will make us all suffer!

This is why parties like reform are popular among working class people. Sneering middle class people looking down on the people below them, sitting in their comfortable bubbles feeling superior about how accepting they are.

im not a reform voter myself but I do get tired of seeing this kind of behaviour from people I know all the time.

you could easily argue our current government doesn’t understand economics with their tax on more tax policies, hindering businesses growth, outsourcing everything to foreign countries while proactively making it harder to hire our own workers. You can’t make a country richer by taxing the people more and more.

estrogone · 13/07/2026 10:39

These threads, and indeed Mr Farage's own manifesto ignore a few facts.

  1. Immigrants/Asylum Seekers/Refugees are human beings.
  2. Migrant communities uplift the socio economic baselines of their adopted communities on almost all measures.

The weaponisation of migration is a bot fuelled populist tactic designed to sow fear, belligerence and distrust in the facts and to create a digital echo chamber that reinforces this in many different ways.

One thing I think most people would agree on (regardless of political leaning) is that Nigel Farage doesn't give two shiny shits about Britain or his constituents. He cares about power and self promotion and financial benefit. I just wish people could trust their instinct on this, even when presented with a least worst scenario. I completely understanding why people feel that he is the least worst choice. Just so fucking frustrating that big money owns political agenda, ideology and outcomes. The rest of us poor folk are just left with Hobson's Choice.

@MeetMeOnTheCorner imagine sneering at your gardener for being "uneducated" and therefore too thick to be able to use his vote wisely in your opinion....when you can't even spell it! You are not smarter than he is!

Disruptive votes now can actually stop idiotic parties like the Green party from having any influence on our economy. If you are worried about our economy I would worry more about a bunch of idiots who think men can morph into women holding the pen on public spending.

I doubt Reform voters are that bright. It's all about the 'boat' people to Reform voters.

Im a reform voters who was a staunch tory...I don't know if im bright but ended up a senior manager in an insurance company, quitting at 40 to run my micro business as I already had enough money and retired at 55. I come from a very working class background.

And its that background that influences my views. The working class has born the brunt of mass immigration. With wages being suppressed for years, education being effected by children whos first language isn't English and the strain on social housing.

Also the relentless push for net zero with little regard for the actual result and impact.

Plus the changes to tax system with the hike to £20k personal allowance will aid millions of poorer paid people.

Its not just the boats, its been the push to multiculturalism which i fully support, but where British culture is seen as bad and anything promoting it is racist...like the little girl not allowed to make a speech about her pride in being English. Plus the two tier approach to different groups such as the free reigh the grooming gangs had or the fact thst very very little is being done about the educational failure of working class whitd kids.

CoffeeCantata · 13/07/2026 11:04

I think people perceive him as willing to say things that go against the grain/challenge the existing point of view. They dont feel well served by the mainstream parties, they feel poorer and undervalued & Farage tells them he will stand up for them/offer change.

They obviously feel there's a need for that.

Not a Reform voter! Lib Dem if anything (and not a political animal at all really).

I think this is right. Farage appeals to some people because he poses as a bloke down the pub. It's no accident he's often photographed with a pint and a fag, is it?

Along with this, he is seen as someone who will dare to say things that other politicians won't dare say because of our very cautious culture nowadays.

Nothing to do with Farage, or Reform, but I do get frustrated with the way politicians - and most public servants (police, NHS) speak. I hate the mealy-mouthedness which they feel they have to adopt. Eg no government will ever criticise parents - they criticise teachers instead.

An example is the recent report on how 'schools are failing white working class boys'...er, could that actually be that schools are the only thing which is NOT failing these boys, and parents ought to get a bollocking instead? But that wouldn't win many votes, would it, while we know that teachers (I was one once) are always willing to shoulder blame for things they haven't done).

Similarly, the pussy-footing around certain health issues which shifts responsibility on to others, rather than directly telling people to change their habits and help themselves (and the rest of us).

I mention these things as examples of a chronic unwillingness from politicians to face up to problems realistically and directly. Instead they tie themselves in knots trying not to offend anyone, when sometimes people need to be offended.

I can't bear Reform or Farage, but I get why people are attracted by the idea of plain speaking, however uncomfortable it might be.
