I know there have probably been other threads asking this, but really .... why?

Why would you say he is a "man of the people?"'(Public school educated stockbroker / multi millionaire)

Genuinely, what appeals about him?

If you voted Brexit, have you forgotten that he resigned from public office that day after his Leave campaign won?

It's an anonymous forum, so please be honest.

I think a lot of people vote for him as a protest vote. Hoping that the other parties will take note and change their policies.

That is what is happening in Germany. The far right are getting stronger and stronger and so the other parties are changing their policies to appeal to far-right voters.

I think a lot of people will vote for reform so that that it happens in the UK as well.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 10/07/2026 19:52

Because he sells it that he is “their man” and supporting them. People think he’s talking to them but he’s only talking to his billionaire buddies.

Yeah, that's a clever strategy! 🤔

Yeah, that's a clever strategy! 🤔

Well it's working in Germany so why shouldn't it work here?

It is a clever strategy I don't know why you are being sarcastic.

A few people might think that, but most people know exactly what he is and are using him in the hope that the other parties will change their policies.

I doubt Reform voters are that bright. It's all about the 'boat' people to Reform voters.

No it really isn’t.

Do people need reminding of 1930’s Germany?

Of what’s happening in the US?

There’s voting for an independent to not give the vote to someone else, it’s a protest and doesn’t hold any clout.

But when you vote for someone like Farage you run the risk that he could come to power, and then what? By then it’s too late for the other parties, and no party is going to change their strategies overnight.

It’s an absolutely stupid strategy, but nobody wants to admit that they actually like Farage and want Reform in power because then that shows them up for the kind of person they are.

The reality is that people vote for Farage because they like him.

And because they agree with the shite he spouts.

lightseeker · 10/07/2026 20:01

Why would people in Clacton be voting for him though. It can't just be 'immigration.' What is the appeal?

I wasn't being sarcastic at you. You explained your point really well, it's just I don't think that voting for some grifting, low-life arse will make the rest of the parties work better. As a voter it is a shit strategy to get what you want. The other parties will just make their policies just as shit. It doesn't work.

ToffeeCrabApple · 10/07/2026 20:05

I think people perceive him as willing to say things that go against the grain/challenge the existing point of view. They dont feel well served by the mainstream parties, they feel poorer and undervalued & Farage tells them he will stand up for them/offer change.

They obviously feel there's a need for that.

Yes, it is immigration. Why do you think that it isn't?

Also poverty, but they blame that on immigration.

lightseeker · 10/07/2026 20:11

So people perceive him as something of a 'maverick,' do you think?

But when they talk about "the establishment," his could they possibly think he's not just that?

OP posts:
NonComm · 10/07/2026 20:13

I think that many UK voters believe that politics ‘doesn’t work’ for them for whatever reasons. I also think that a large number of Reform voters know that their votes will upset a lot of people and it is their way of asserting themselves/trying to make their voices heard - even though Reform are unlikely to work for them either.

lightseeker · 10/07/2026 20:14

Farage told them that Brexit would help them "Take Back Control." Now the average Brexit voter will be worse off than in 2016. Immigration has also increased. Yet they still vote for him!

Well, they blame the Tories for that, not him, and to be fair, both of those were the Tories's fault.

lightseeker · 10/07/2026 20:15

I also heard that he's only set foot in Clacton twice since he was elected. Is there anyone on here actually living in Clacton?

Yes, he isn't as popular now. Count Binface might have a good chance of winning.

Darragon · 10/07/2026 20:20

I’m supporting Binface but I think you can find out all you need to know from Farage’s YouTube videos, instead of asking posters to put their heads above the parapet to be ripped to shreds by the left majority on MN some of whom quite often say Reform voters are thick racists. Go and look at his real(?) thoughts about politics and see what he is about. He’s not getting votes by just posing with a pint, there’s more to it.
The “would you change your Brexit vote?” thread is quite enlightening too. I learned a lot.

Somersetbaker · 10/07/2026 20:23

Number Crunching.
0 times Farage has spoken or voted in the House of Commons in April and May.
12 hours work flogging gold bullion for which he was paid £270k on 29th of May.

Man of the people or a work shy grifter?

lightseeker · 10/07/2026 20:24

In 2016, Farage appealed to those who felt dispossessed and gave them something to blame - 'immigrants.'

But 10 years later, surely they can see through him now? He doesn't sound like his voting core, look like them or dress like them. He's a public school stockbroker turned business man grifter extraordinaire in a tweed jacket. What do they relate to in him?

Thanks for voting Binface. Are you in Clacton constituency? Do you think many will vote with you? What's your sense?

Because he has said that he will stop the boats. He is the only one they trust to do it.

Why would they care if he is public school stockbroker? They just want someone to stop the boats and they trust that he will do it.

lightseeker · 10/07/2026 20:30

He won't be able to stop the boats though will he? Why do they believe him, just because he says this?

Strange that the usual Reform bots/supporters seem to be busy watching Spain beat Belgium

Oliveoy · 10/07/2026 20:31

Nearly a quarter of people in Clacton have no qualifications whatsoever and it's one of the most deprived areas of the country. No surprise that's where Farage chose to stand, easy pickings to convince them all their problems are down to the boat people.
