AIBU to move far away after years of free childcare from Mum?

My Mum provided free full time childcare at our home for our 2 kids from the time they were born. Now that they are school age, we really don't need her anymore. So we are thinking of moving to a city that is by the ocean, and close to mountains. Not really for better jobs---we just think it would be cool to live there. This place is about 2500 km away from her. AIBU to think this is our right to do this, and that my Mum should approve?

Reverse?

Marwoodsbigbreak · 29/06/2026 19:03

I call reverse.

takingitdown · 29/06/2026 19:03

I think YABU to abandon her and take her grandchildren away from her when she’ll have built a really close relationship with them.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 29/06/2026 19:04

Wow.

Jackiepumpkinhead · 29/06/2026 19:04

Wow!

Reverse.

Never seen a more obvious reverse

Use and abuse.

Reverse

Spicychipsandacocktail · 29/06/2026 19:05

Definitely a reverse but based on that info, a little cold of your DC.

RappelChoan · 29/06/2026 19:06

AI reverse…

Enidrocks · 29/06/2026 19:06

This all sounds nasty. Can’t put my finger on it - but just nasty.

SweatySpider321 · 29/06/2026 19:06

Reverse -the explanation for the move was especially flippant

But people are allowed to have their own lives

Dexternight · 29/06/2026 19:06

Take mom with you. She may like the ocean and mountains too.

Enidrocks · 29/06/2026 19:07

Oh I have just read the OP’s last thread

the op is the grandmother

I’m hoping your daughter will run like the wind towards that ocean!!!

RobinStrike · 29/06/2026 19:07

Just bait. The way it’s written is obviously done to produce controversy. Absolutely not genuine

Minasama · 29/06/2026 19:08

That is plainly unfair on both your children and your Mum, since they will have a much closer relationship than if you’d sent the kids to nursery.

Sorry, but you shouldn’t have taken that amount of childcare if you weren’t prepared to reciprocate. It’s horrible treatment of your mother.

Which one is that? I did a search and she has put one post on a thread about doing childcare as a gp (and sounds like her DD and SIL are piss-takers) and then on another thread, she says she has a 10 and a 13 year old and works full time. Very confusing.

Yes that’s what I’m talking about!

Hence me saying I hope that the daughter of the OP runs like the wind towards the ocean

Sounds like a big bust up the reverse poster cares not to mention.

Why does this sound like it wasn't written by a real person?
Not accusing you of not being real, it's just really strangely written. Did AI help you?

Yeah okay. Although from that post alone, I'm not sure why you think the daughter should run (as it suggests the grandmother is in the wrong). That sounds like a highly exploitative situation for the grandmother. It's an extraordinary amount of free childcare that she's doing.

Enidrocks · 29/06/2026 19:25

Run DD Run!!!

BigYellowBus · 29/06/2026 19:32

Sounds like this was copied from Reddit or another American-centric site

Thisisthewayofit · 29/06/2026 19:36

Well this is obviously a reverse as others have said.

OP, they can do what they like with their lives. If you are so resentful of the set-up, you really didn’t need to provide so much childcare.
