Just walked the dog round the block and sweating even though I walked so slowly. Mercifully there is a bit of a breeze and the sun has disappeared behind the roofs. Sitting outside with a chilled rose.

shirleecarter · 26/06/2026 21:09

Yeah I’m done with it now. Not sleeping properly, no motivation to do anything. Not even comfortable sitting out it in. I like the sun but these temperatures are awful. Obviously those who enjoy it will be along shortly with their bingo card about resilience, loving it, used to cope in the olden days, stop moaning etc etc. I think some people think it makes them superior not to be phased by it.

the80sweregreat · 26/06/2026 21:09

I feel for people that work outside. Must be hell on earth.

To the few people on here who have commented that they are loving this weather where exactly are you in the UK because everyone I know, even the sun worshippers are struggling and flagging. How on earth can you like this heat? I’ve not found one single corner of my house that doesn’t feel like I’m sitting in the bowels of hell (and I have quite a cold house normally).

And the heat has hatched out a bazillion flies that have descended upon our village urgh!

It’s a week tops, The novelty factor is enough for us heat lovers,

NOTHING in my garden has died despite my pitiful watering regime. Mostly because it’s been wet all spring.

the80sweregreat · 26/06/2026 21:11

I’ve never liked hot weather and people like to make digs about it. They seem to like being hot , sweaty and burnt to a crisp.

I’ve only watered the pots every night. Everything else will bounce back .

EmeraldRoulette · 26/06/2026 21:16

@Peony1985 are you in the worst affected area?

What kind of temperature do you have in your home? Do you have to use public transport?

I’m sure that July will be boiling too. The presenters are drip feeding us about being cooler next week , but I don’t think it’ll last. I hope I’m very wrong

I have a horrible feeling you’re right

greengreyblue · 26/06/2026 21:23

Wouldn’t it be lovely if big businesses supplied schools with air con units??? Just saying.

SqueakyFromme · 26/06/2026 19:46

Same here. Logistics manufacturing hauling 15kg crates the only respite I get is when I have to do some work at my PC with two industrial fans on . I sure the people who claim to love it would not last half an hour actually doing some physical manual work. Roll on September

I'm at an industrial laundry and the heat from washing machines, ironing calendar and massive tumble dryers just adds to the torment. We have a few fans but they blow warm air and the space is just too big for AC. Its very cold in winter too (oddly!).

Pureshores11 · 26/06/2026 21:32

I’m also on the south coast and it’s dropped right off here. Probably about 22 now and the air feels fresher and less humid.

Imagine being French right now…

SqueakyFromme · 26/06/2026 21:40

@Pureshores11 I'm in Dorset must say it's turned beautifully cool out but inside house just refusing to cool down we had a spectacular storm and rain for about an hour this morning just after midnight it was very localised though it was absolutely magnificent 😀

strugglingwithlife · 26/06/2026 21:48

Absolutely hating it. I am perimenopausal and on medication that destroys temperature regulation, it's awful and I can't understand anyone that likes it! As soon as I'm away from a fan I'm sweating and I can't sleep, bedroom is like an oven. Please bring back the rain and cold!

I feel for people that work outside. Must be hell on earth.

Two cars on the lane where I live broke down and the poor AA men were out in their uniforms and vis jackets, bent over smoking engines. I took them out bottles of cold water, they were so grateful, bless them, least I could do, I was sweating just watching them.

the80sweregreat · 26/06/2026 21:50

Middlemarch123, that was kind of you!
I couldn’t work outside in this heat , but people have to I know. It is brutal

Ilovemyshed · 26/06/2026 21:56

Nearly 10 pm and still 30 degrees here. Neighbours kids are shrieking, its hell.

PuppyMonkey · 26/06/2026 21:58

I’m quite fascinated by the people who love it and want just one more weekend of it so they can enjoy it. What do you do in this weather? Sit sunbathing all day in sun that’s so hot it makes you wince? You enjoy it being so stiflingly hot all night you can’t sleep? What is nice about it?

LittleMissLateForWorkAgain · 26/06/2026 22:02

I work in a secondary school built in the 60s. Glass window walls everywhere. Nearly 40c in some classrooms. We don't have AC. I take my cats out at dawn and dusk and run fans all day but I can't bear it.
Everyone is drooping.

I ve lost 35 pounds since September and sweat less but I m still done in.

Adult ds works on a demolition site in hi viz. His truck was over 40c.

We are drinking iced water forever and praying for the end of it.

I m in SE England but originally from.NE Scotland. I have fair skin freckles and reddish hair. I hate it.

It’s just nice being warm. Even better if there is a warm wind. I do what I normally do. The world doesn’t have to stop when the thermometer goes above 30.

I don’t sunbathe, or wince.

I don’t have a problem sleeping at night.

Yes, I wonder where they live. I suspect quite far north.

Not in my case. 33 today. 34 yesterday.

I'm on holiday in Germany right now and it's currently 38 degrees at 8.30pm, so if we're not already in the epicentre of Too Fucking Hot we're going to die next week 😅

I lived in the tropics for a couple of years before this so I'm actually not finding the heat too unbearable (at least it's not 80% humidity), but I SERIOUSLY miss fans being standard in restaurants and hotel bedrooms, especially at night. I don't even need AC, but my kingdom for a small pedestal fan.

My brother lives in Germany and he's really suffering. He said it's going to be 40c tomorrow.🥵

pampampamela · 26/06/2026 22:14

Agreed, it isn't the sun of even being a bit hot that bothers me, it's the genuinely feeling like I can't breathe air in when I'm just walking to get my meal deal at work, my usually comfy shoes shredding my heels til they bleed cos everything including my feet are wet and sweaty, my freshly washed hair having wet roots and humidity shafts so it's frizzy af, feeling absolutely huge in everything I wear because I'm pregnant and having to wear less then I usually would as someone who isn't entirely body confident, my skin feeling rubbish, finding exercise not only hard but also considering if it's dangerous, everything is boiling from the car when you first get in it to shopping centres as surprisingly not all have air con and having to work in it after a totally sleepless night. I tried to cool my bedroom with a portable air con unit last night that is usually pretty good but it wasn't doing enough for the size of the room and magnitude of heat, my duvet was making me kick it haha and my usually cosy room just isn't designed for this sort of heat. Add in the fly that got in and didn't stop buzzing to the point I found myself lying in the foetal position telling a fly to fuck off and expecting it to listen and yes you could say I had truly snapped. It just makes me aggravated lol
