Northwest here - max has been around 32 / 33. A few things I’ve enjoyed. We have a shady garden with trees and I have loved eating outside every meal. We’ve had breakfasts at 7am with the birds singing. Just sitting on the grass. No faff, just simple meals. Water fights with my daughter. We’ve been playing in the woods in a stream. Nice memories I will have of doing simple things as a family to try and keep cool.

Not enjoyed the disrupted sleep, viral illness, working in dark rooms with curtains shut, clutter building because too tired to clean. Bin smells. Disruption to my exercise routine. Feeling irrationally angry from time to time. The silence and feelings of isolation as everyone is too hot / tired / overwhelmed to text you in this heat. Reduced work output and knowing the stress that will bring when I have to catch up.

I've slept between 3 and 4 hours a night since Monday. It's finally cooled down here (South West) after reaching 39 yesterday and I could weep with joy.

We live in a park home, like a caravan but with a proper tiled roof and better insulated but omg are we suffering. We downsized and bought this because it's a proper little sun trap. Well I'm beginning to go off it at the moment. It has a full glass porch which is handy for drying the clothes that have been washed every day after wearing for maybe half a day. It's 34 in here at the moment.
I survived 1976 because I was 18 and loved it, not the case now. I did say to dh i would like to be one of those ladies that look cool and put together instead I just look a hot sweaty mess and not in a good way.

Edited

We are currently staying in a lodge on a park, it’s been so unbearable at 11pm last night we debated packing up and leaving 🫠

It is awful isn't it. We got a card from sil today postmarked Cornwall, we've been there in a heatwave and you can't really enjoy it. I hope you managed to enjoy your holiday despite the heat.

South East

So you've enjoyed the 38°

Okay, well, I guess some people do.

What's the temperature when you're trying to sleep at night?

@EmeraldRoulette

i love it too! 🙋‍♀️

it does affect my sleep but I don’t really care!

LunaTheCat · 26/06/2026 22:44

I am in south west France.
F - - k this heat!
Can’t sleep, lying sofa with sheet over me, sweating.

Youdontseehow · 26/06/2026 22:47

FastFood · 26/06/2026 14:13

I was done before it started.
I'm not even really suffering, but my world has become soooo small, limited to 3 streets and a park, and to 4 hours, between 6 and 8am and 9 and 11pm.
Almost no social contact, no one in my whatsapp group suggests drinks or bbq or picnic like any normal summer. My cognitive abilities are the ones of a pre-schooler, even watching the latest shitty Harlan Coben series requires brain-cells I simply don't have access to at the moment.

And I consider myself lucky, I still sleep relatively well, I still have some semblance of social interactions with other dog owners, and I WFH this week, so at least I don't have to endure public transport, (because even for 8h of blissful AC in the office, I am not staying 10mins in the Northern Line thank you very much).

I want to go out, take my time in the morning without rushing to take the poor dog to the park before it's too hot, I want to meet friends, I want to ENJOY food, I want to bake a cake way too big for me alone and go round the neighbourhood to give some to my friends and neighbours, fuck it I even want to go to the dentist next week.

I am DEFINITELY buying a portable AC unit this autumn, if I have to be cooped up at home, it has to be a sanctuary.

Fookin hell. Is it quite hot or are you in the midst of war??

EmeraldRoulette · 26/06/2026 22:50

@Cherrytree86 fair enough but also I want to know what temperature you've got indoors at night

@Youdontseehow I don't see how any of that post relates to war 😂

i'm not aware of knowing anyone who's enjoying it. I hate winter...but this is ridiculous.

Dutchhouse14 · 26/06/2026 22:52

Yanbu in how you feel but ive been in holiday in scotland and missed the heatwave so hoping it will still be hot and sunny when im in back in Kent on monday!

@EmeraldRoulette

i dunno! I don’t have a thermometer. I’m just so happy to not be cold all the time, having to bundle up in coat, socks etc

PuppyMonkey · 26/06/2026 21:58

I’m quite fascinated by the people who love it and want just one more weekend of it so they can enjoy it. What do you do in this weather? Sit sunbathing all day in sun that’s so hot it makes you wince? You enjoy it being so stiflingly hot all night you can’t sleep? What is nice about it?

I would adore it if it was a pleasant 24c in the day and cooled off with some rain at night down to about 15c
basically I want summer in the day and winter at night please!

AhhhSchtop · 27/06/2026 00:44

I’m over it. 35 degrees in London is just unpleasant. 26/27/28 lovely, but above that it’s just stuffy and sweaty and yuck.

fluffydoglove · 27/06/2026 01:21

Daytime is bad enough but I can get by but omg the nights are horrendous
Last night though was amazing because I went to a concert in London and stayed in a hotel it was like walking into an ice cold room with the air con did not want to leave this morning .. the receptionist told us they were so busy since the heatwave with the locals booking themselves in for a few nights to have air con
Bloody brilliant idea if you can afford it

SquirrelGG · 27/06/2026 01:57

Hotandpointy · 26/06/2026 14:10

I hate it so much. Bring back winter, lovely crisp air and winter sunshine. Big coats and boots, lovely!

It's winter where I live at the moment and I can't wait for it to end. It's not "lovely" in the slightest. 😁

PuppyMonkey · 27/06/2026 07:21

cinquanta · 26/06/2026 22:03

It’s just nice being warm. Even better if there is a warm wind. I do what I normally do. The world doesn’t have to stop when the thermometer goes above 30.

I don’t sunbathe, or wince.

I don’t have a problem sleeping at night.

Weirdo. Grin

RhosynCymru · 27/06/2026 07:41

Well it’s waking up to another morning of torture. Like someone said on a facebook post about the weather, we are on day nine and I’m incredibly frustrated that this happens every summer- literally the boiling frog “just two days “ then “four days” and all of a sudden two or three weeks later it’s still insufferable. Then the selective memory of summer “only being a few days a year “ when I’m sweating and miserable well into September!
If I ever become a journalist I’m going to write it as I see it, instead of day 1 million of “this glorious weather “ it’ll be “And in further hot weather misery, British people are due to suffer another two weeks of suffocating temperatures and relentless glaring sunshine.”

Peony1985 · 27/06/2026 07:45

I’m SE too. About 20 mins inland from Gosport.
I have been sweaty at night but I’m another one that can live with it. I don’t have fans or air con, just open windows at night and shut in the day.

I really don’t get the mass moaning over something that’s less than 5 days! If it had been going on for a couple of weeks fair enough.

Tortoiseoncaffeine · 27/06/2026 08:32

Well us autumn/winter souls have to listen to no end of endless moaning about winter weather when it arrives. So it’s only fair we get a chance to moan too! 😃

bookworm14 · 27/06/2026 08:45

I really don’t get the mass moaning over something that’s less than 5 days! If it had been going on for a couple of weeks fair enough.

People are reporting that the extreme heat is making them physically and mentally unwell. But as long as you’re alright, I guess.

LemonLymanDotCom · 27/06/2026 08:59

I was ok with it until I started running a fever of 38.8 this week and my body grew a brand new cyst on my ovary (had the prev cyst removed during surgery last month) meaning I’m hobbling around, in pain & being professionally sweaty.

Sigh.
Am prescribing myself ice cream alongside the painkillers & antibiotics

Tortoiseoncaffeine · 27/06/2026 09:01

I agree with @bookworm14 to be fair, many people’s pets are really struggling too and can’t be exercised and many are struggling with medical conditions including myself. Personally my blood pressure is so low due to a medical condition that even in normal weather, I struggle to get it in the normal range. This heat makes it go even lower so I’m on the point of fainting, and I haven’t slept for days now. So the moaning is not just about not liking summer. However I’m sure there’s a thread somewhere on here celebrating the heatwave for those that love it.

QuintadosMalvados · 27/06/2026 09:22

Some people seem to not realise that there's a difference between pleasantly warm and sunny and heatwaves.

Like it's all or nothing!!

I literally didn't sleep Wednesday night. The only explanation is the heat.
I could not cool down at all.
I totally missed my sleep window and watched the dawn thinking 'f* that's it. No chance now.'
Fecking awful. Then the vicious circle of missed sleep=worry=missed sleep.
(Though I slept OK Thursday night and logically I know I will, my emotions get me anxious and I'm knackered and not thinking straight.)

No bloody weather is worth a missed night's sleep. Not for me anyway.

WhatNoRaisins · 27/06/2026 09:26

The odd bad night is one thing but several consecutive ones inevitably mess with your moods and ability to function.

Some are but it’s the collective moaning that I think is annoying. All the quibbling over 1 or 2 degrees and who has it worse. Anything over 30 is unusually hot and over 35 feels really hot, what more can you say?

And it’s less than a week so the unwell people will be ok now it’s over. Rain and clouds next week (like the week before the heatwave).
