At work in a factory all week with no AC and today topped at 37°. It's been the week from hell. If the hours weren't so good I would quit as they say this will become the norm for the future.

That’s inhumane. You have my sympathy.

cinquanta · 26/06/2026 19:29

I’m still loving it.

oustedbymymate · 26/06/2026 19:33

God yes. I am so so over it. Everyone saying ‘it’s summer’. It’s not. 24/25/26 is summer in the uk. 3 fucking 8 is not. It’s hell. I’ve had enough of sweating so much.

it would be at least bearable if it cooled down at night but it doesn’t.

WhatNoRaisins · 26/06/2026 19:35

It's the worst time for a heatwave with the long daylight hours. At least in August you don't have the sun out heating everything up for so long.

From your lips to Mother Nature’s ears.

No idea how the cold virus DS picked up survived the UV rays.

Just seen a report that it’s going to worse this side of the alps until Monday. Then the epicentre of the Too Fucking Hot is going to move to the low countries and Germany

We’ve be promised a big drop in temps, possibly even below 30 for July.

I feel it only fair that if we had July Heat in June we should get May Heat in July.

August I’m expecting storms. Just a gut feeling. Lots of storms and this time I won’t go out on the road to investigate a strange noise that turned out to be a (very very rare) tornado followed by what can only be described as a hurricane. Being sandblasted by the surface of our rough gravel track turned out to be my least favourite form of exfoliating. But I’d rather a small tornado (from inside the house this time) than this inescapable heat.🥵

Edited

I'm on holiday in Germany right now and it's currently 38 degrees at 8.30pm, so if we're not already in the epicentre of Too Fucking Hot we're going to die next week 😅

I lived in the tropics for a couple of years before this so I'm actually not finding the heat too unbearable (at least it's not 80% humidity), but I SERIOUSLY miss fans being standard in restaurants and hotel bedrooms, especially at night. I don't even need AC, but my kingdom for a small pedestal fan.

CeramicRoses · 26/06/2026 19:43

I LOVE it. The only thing I hate is knowing it will end, and facing the fact I need to move somewhere hot all the time.

Same here. Logistics manufacturing hauling 15kg crates the only respite I get is when I have to do some work at my PC with two industrial fans on . I sure the people who claim to love it would not last half an hour actually doing some physical manual work. Roll on September

I notice some people barely sweat. My face is a sweaty mess .Is it the Irish blood? I’m clearly not built for this.

I have a friend who has a condition where she doesn't sweat until it's close to 40 degrees, and it means she always looks lovely in the heat but can't tolerate it at all because her body has no way to cool itself. So maybe us natural sweaty tomatoes are the lucky ones!

Btw for the nights I've been soaking cotton PJs and wringing them out, then going to sleep in them - works a treat to cool your body temp. You can also do the same with a silk scarf for a blanket if you have one. Ideally has to be something with natural fibres, as polyester will feel clingy and gross.

DanceMumTaxi · 26/06/2026 19:56

I actually really like the heat. However, I did not like the kids moaning about the classroom. My year 10s were really good on Thursday when the room got to 33 degrees, but one of my year 9 classes today were absolutely awful. Couldn’t cope with that all the time.

lazyarse123 · 26/06/2026 19:57

We live in a park home, like a caravan but with a proper tiled roof and better insulated but omg are we suffering. We downsized and bought this because it's a proper little sun trap. Well I'm beginning to go off it at the moment. It has a full glass porch which is handy for drying the clothes that have been washed every day after wearing for maybe half a day. It's 34 in here at the moment.
I survived 1976 because I was 18 and loved it, not the case now. I did say to dh i would like to be one of those ladies that look cool and put together instead I just look a hot sweaty mess and not in a good way.

igelkott2026 · 26/06/2026 15:29

I think we have another day of it in the south-east, though it should at least be under 30.

As for the pp who wants to move somewhere hot, give it a decade and the UK will be permanently hot.

Not really. More unsettled and extreme weather, could be wetter, more stormy and very cold ranging to more heatwaves and earlier in the year.

DemBonesDemBones · 26/06/2026 20:05

It’s broken here today in the Scottish Borders. I stood outside so gratefully in the rain this morning.

CateyeKate · 26/06/2026 20:12

To the few people on here who have commented that they are loving this weather where exactly are you in the UK because everyone I know, even the sun worshippers are struggling and flagging. How on earth can you like this heat? I’ve not found one single corner of my house that doesn’t feel like I’m sitting in the bowels of hell (and I have quite a cold house normally).

And the heat has hatched out a bazillion flies that have descended upon our village urgh!

Trotfestival · 26/06/2026 20:16

They said on RTE they're expecting another heatwave in 10 days or so...

the80sweregreat · 26/06/2026 20:18

I’m old enough to remember the summer of 1976 and it wasn’t like this at all. Admittedly I was only 10 and much thinner and fitter , but it just wasn’t as bad.
My parents didn’t go and buy fans. There were water shortages , but not where I lived. I am sure that it cooled down at night a lot more. I can remember it breaking at the end of august , so it did go on a long time , but it was just a different kind of heat.
This feels more unnatural and I have never sweated as much. It is draining

the80sweregreat · 26/06/2026 20:19

I’m sure that July will be boiling too. The presenters are drip feeding us about being cooler next week , but I don’t think it’ll last. I hope I’m very wrong

Frankbutchersfangs · 26/06/2026 20:19

I am hating this. I can’t ever remember being this ill in the heat. There’s hardly anywhere in this house to get relief from the heat. When I eat I sweat buckets. I love summer normally but not this temperature. I can’t even go for a walk, just hanging around barely moving. I have been sleeping downstairs as the bedroom is unbearable, but even then I’m waking up sweating.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 26/06/2026 20:27

Swimbea · 26/06/2026 18:50

Or do anything in it. This weather is for holidays or lazy arses only.

I'm a lazy arse and it's still too hot for me.

Yes surely these must be people not in the red areas. I don’t know anyone that’s enjoying it. No kids out playing or any garden parties etc near me. Everyone’s just inside with the blinds down and trying to find a shop that still has fans in stock.

the80sweregreat · 26/06/2026 20:42

The teens I saw coming home early from school today looked wilting. They can’t even be bothered to cause any trouble, it’s way too hot for that.

Middlemarch123 · 26/06/2026 20:52

It’s not the heat, there is no air. I’m on north Norfolk coast, can literally see the sea from my garden. And my job is a dog walker. I have six lovely dogs that I walk twice a day. Walked them all along the beach before seven a.m. temp ok but just no air. Then walked them again at 7 pm. No air. All went in the sea, except Gavin and Stacey, the pugs, who I just let out in their garden tonight , before flopping in front of their fan on their cool blanket. It’s currently low thirties, so hot but it’s the humidity that’s creasing me.

CoastalCalm · 26/06/2026 20:54

Our heating has kicked in here in Northumberland and we had the most tremendous storm earlier - hasn’t been too bad at all this week but I tend to avoid the sun due to health issues , blinds closed etc so been manageable

socks1107 · 26/06/2026 21:01

I’ve not enjoyed this week at all. It’s been stifling and the tubes and trains have just been horrendous. No air con or fans at work - which had made the whole day unbearable.
last summer I loved, I was expecting the same this year but safe to say I haven’t!

catslovehairties · 26/06/2026 18:22

It's finally cooled down here in Cumbria.

I'm a dog walker and have had to cancel three days of walks, I've barely slept as it's just too bloody hot and sweaty and I'm also autistic so I'm struggling massively with temperature regulation and sensory overwhelm, as well as with my routine being totally out of whack. It has been HORRIBLE.

Autistic/ADHD and it’s exactly that - sensory overload, messed up routine and inability to regulate temperature to the point I feel I’m suffocating.

MrsShawnHatosy · 26/06/2026 21:07

It’s a good excuse to eat ice cream and fuck the calories I suppose.
