This is fine. Picnics and frolicking about making daisy chains weather. I'd be happy with this for the rest of the season.

It’s like the heating. Some schools don’t put on the heating until after Oct half term. Sometimes we have cold Septembers and Octobers.

I can see the schools not switching on the air con until July.

No they want to keep the children at school so they would be on when needed.

The amount of food waste is shocking isn’t it.
If these temperatures are the norm now , the supermarkets need to look into how to try and solve it. Some may need new freezers or chillers installed.

If the fans are installed on the roof, they will need removal and placed somewhere else. Meaning no power and shock horror, closing the store.

Supermarkets did used to close for 5-12 days, depending on the size of the store to do a full refurb.

Now it takes 2 - 5 months of doing the work around customers and staff. This is frustrating for the staff and customers as things are moved a few times in the transition period. By the time you remember where things moved to - it has moved to somewhere else! The chillers and freezers don’t get replaced. The contents move.

I worked for a supermarket during its part refurb. The contractors were sawing MDF on the shop floor (closed off to everyone) and used various solvents. Had an asthma attack. This made me weak and got Covid for the second time a month later

On the first day I smelt MDF and solvents, I asked to be temporarily work in another store. That got rejected by the area manager. Had a change of store manager about 6 weeks later and he said that there was no risk assessment done for vulnerable people. Customers with asthma and other respiratory problems couldn’t shop. I dread to imagine what consequences that the supermarket chain got if I died from the asthma attack. As no risk assessment, my request to move stores whilst the work was being carried out, got rejected.

Yes the chillers and freezers weren’t replaced!

I’m sure that the cost of keeping the store open whilst doing a refit as close as to full whilst trading is more. Plus loss of sales as customers get fed up of finding stuff. Or going to another store for all their groceries.

In the days when supermarkets closed for 5-12 days, staff would either booked leave, work at another store or, those who can do hard physical work helped putting the stuff on the shelves etc. Or at least two of these options.

I’m just giving up on it for now and waiting until Autumn. They are much cheaper then.

It’s the same for fans. Buy them when it’s 35F, not 35C

Im sure people sling out fans after the summer.

As a self-employed dog walker, I have had to lose three full days of income due to the heat.
I'm also autistic and struggle with temperature regulation - I also take medication that makes me sweat a lot more which is a sensory nightmare.

I'm glad you're fine but many of us are struggling.

I'm the same, self employed so have lost some income this week as some clients asked us not to come in. I am ND too, I suffer from digestive issues, I am on Nortriptyline and I only found out during this heatwave it can impair the brain's temperature-regulating centre making it harder to cool down......oh, what fun!

Sadly, the majority of the UK are not frolicking about making daisy chains, most of us have to work and that means working in oppressive heat all day long. I could only but wish to spend my days in a heatwave skipping through a park with picnic basket in hand looking forward to picking wild flowers.

Errr I was refering to the low 20s kind of summer that we have today. Like hell could I frolic about during last weeks heat.

Pre the infamous 1976 , English summers was a mix of one or two hot days and rain mostly.

I really don't want to spoil anyone's day, but it looks like there is another bloody heatwave coming next weekend - lasting over a week.

It's not quite as bad though (certainly not here - we were up to 39 and smack in the red warning area but it's saying max 28-30 here for that week).

Yes, I'm seeing amateur forecasters arguing about this one

Unfortunately, when they predicted 38 they weren't far wrong

So yeah, it's a worry

My flat hasn't calmed down from the last one, so it's still pretty grim and my stomach still isn't right - and I wasn't even here for all of it! The thing is if this is going to be a hot summer generally then I'll just have to put up with it.

WhatNoRaisins · 29/06/2026 11:19

Just trying to get prepped. I'd like to at least start with the house being cleaner and a better stocked freezer than the last one.

I am the same. The house is a tip by my standards as DS was sleeping on the sofa and we were all confined to the (small) downstairs. I need DS out the way for a few hours so I can at least get the carpets and flooring clean, toilets bleached and dining table cleared off!

I can't find one of the 5 or 6 air con units I have earmarked in stock, anywhere. Not even Amazon which is unusual. I really hope somewhere gets a delivery this week!.

I think I am going to wait till later in the year and then defo buy one.

Have you got any makes in mind you would recommend? Thanks it's a bit of a mine field!

Yes I saw that :( It isn't looking quite so bad depending on which app you look at. Where I live it shouldn't be hotter than 29. Here's hoping (hot enough but not unbearable and not red warning level).

Auburngal · 29/06/2026 21:14

I checked the humidity next week and its forecast to be lower too

AngryBeyondWords03 · 30/06/2026 02:49

Some weather reports are saying its going to get up.to 41 in some areas of the UK

They're mainly from red top tabloids though. Met office and BBC say max 30-33 here (in the South West) so I am going with that for now.

SadiraOfTyr · 30/06/2026 11:55

Low to mid 30s here next week. As long as it stays under 35 I'm happy.

the80sweregreat · 30/06/2026 12:10

The 30s is too much for me. Had some rain here today . Not sure if Wimbledon had any , but it generally rains a bit when that is on then ends up over our way a few hours later. It is nice it’s cooled off. Making the most of it and hoping next week’s forecast is wrong !

If it's the Daily Express, it will snow next week.

Don’t read weather news from tabloids. They say 20 inches of snow when FA happens

ConverselyAttired · 30/06/2026 15:11

That's my point!

Pre the infamous 1976 , English summers was a mix of one or two hot days and rain mostly.

In the SE we’ve typically had weeks of sun and bursts of hot weather from spring onwards. Normally ends in July followed by a cooler grey August.
Last years summer was pretty shit.

The first year of Covid was amazing weather from Easter holidays onwards.

This year was cold and wet up to the first week of hot weather at the end of May.
