WIBU to work from home to go to the beach?

I live near the beach. Usually can't wfh but occasionally I can e.g. if I am getting work done at home or have an appointment. Would it be unreasonable to ask to wfh for the day tomorrow so I can go to the beach at lunchtime? I might stay out a little longer but will have my phone/laptop with me.

So why didn’t you say that in your Op?

Anewappa · 25/06/2026 14:26

You said would it be unreasonable to ask to wfh so you can go to the beach during your lunch break

You make no mention of having to lie

why lie? Why not just ask? It’s only your lunch break

It the principle [eyeroll]

You clearly want to do it so do it.

You clearly don't have morals or a conscience either, but hey ho.

No morals or a conscience? For spending her lunch break at the beach on a hot day?! JFC 🤣🤣🤣

I'm sorry for assuming people have an ounce of reading comprehension skills and would understand that I meant I would need to have a reasonable excuse to wfh, so I would need to fabricate an excuse in order to do so.

I'm sorry I can't engage with you any longer as you are wilfully misunderstanding this and creating a very strange aggressive tone to this thread.

where do you say that you’ll lie?

why lie? You’re only going on your lunch break

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 25/06/2026 14:26

Well strictly it is morally wrong - you know if it wasn’t as you would be happy to tell work the truth.

But you are clearly going to do it and stay beyond your lunch break so I would just do it with the minimum possible fuss.

Tbh alot of things like this are fine as long as you don’t talk about it, ask people if it’s ok or be “oh look at naughty/ cheeky me”/ “aren’t I lucky” about it. No one is going to cheerlead you taking time out of work without telling them whilst being paid to go to the beach, as few will have that opportunity. It’s asking for a row.

So go, but with the awareness that you’re sneaking about and doing something “wrong” and technically unreasonable. Take responsibility for it in other words!

changeintheair · 25/06/2026 14:27

Seems strange to lie, why not just say you're going to WFH? Is a reason required beyond 'I need to'?

In all this time you could’ve just faked the appointment!

Per my op, my company doesn't really allow us to wfh other than if we have some kind of reasonable excuse

Haha. I have.

I have always had a very good relationship with all my employees so if o wanted to do something over my lunch break that required working from home as a one off … whether that was beach or gym or hair cut… because my employers have always had such faith in me - I wouldn’t need to lie

You make no ref to needing to lie in your Op

cleaely you don’t have that kind of relationship with your boss so sure.. lie. They will provably suspect it anyway given it’s already 2.30pm and suddenly you need an appointment for tomorrow? 😆

Anewappa · 25/06/2026 14:29

So you still have not actually sent the request to wfh… tomorrow?

Anewappa · 25/06/2026 14:30

peachyhead · 25/06/2026 14:28

Haha. I have.

Are you supposed to be working now?

Edited

I've already said above that I have! I have asked to wfh tomorrow as I have an appointment. I've been told that's fine. I will wfh tomorrow and during lunch go to the beach, then probably stay out and work in a cafe for an hour or so. I hope this eases your mind so you can enjoy the rest of your afternoon off.

I'm on my lunch break. Came in a bit early today so it's run over slightly.

If I can't go why should you get to go 😤

Exactly correct, yes. Because she would by lying to her employer because what she wants to do falls outside of her agreed WFH criteria.

JFC right back at you.

Totaldramallama · 25/06/2026 14:36

Of course not. DH and I have been to the beach two days in a row so far, avoid it like the plague at the weekend as the traffic makes it hell. You really don't need MN permission and you are unlikely to get positive responses, people are very bitter when they have inflexible jobs

Anewappa · 25/06/2026 14:36

If you have a decent relationship with your employer, then

“as a one off given the glorious forecast, mind if I wfh tomorrow and hit the beach just over my lunch ready?” Then, well mine, would all have said “go for it”. Because they trust that I wouldn’t take the piss

The point is… it would appear the Op herself doesn’t have a flexible job as she’s lying about an appointment
