To cancel date over his ‘joke’?

Datingwoee · 23/06/2026 15:52

5th date tomorrow night with a man who has been great up to now. I’ve had to push the time back by an hour - said I’ll need extra time to freshen up after work. His reply to me was: “No worries, can’t be having a whiffy growler lol”.

Is that date cancelling worthy or am I being a bit too harsh?

Gross, I hate that kind of humour. I think I'd call him out on it to see his reaction.

I am curious though......I don't get why it would take an hour longer to get ready just because it is hot. Surely you would have been having a shower after work before a date regardless of the temperature?

Badgerrtime · 23/06/2026 21:49

I had to google that as I've never heard it before.

I'd cancel. Crude and shows you what he's thinking about for date!
Online dating is the absolute Pitts. I learnt that last year having been single for over 10 years. Still single and won't be doing online dating again.

OneBlueFinch · 23/06/2026 21:50

Tell him that you don’t want him and his smeggy cock any where near you again , and block

GiddyRobin · 23/06/2026 21:52

I have a really dark sense of humour, I find plenty of "off colour" things funny and will say them in front of the right audience, but this? No. No, I don't think that's remotely funny at all and I wouldn't be having it.

It's misogynistic, it's fucking crude, infantile and honestly? It isn't even fucking funny. It's just yuck.

Absolutely not a cat's chance in Hell would I be seeing him again.

Pinkie89 · 23/06/2026 21:53

Instant ick. How old is he?

banmusk · 23/06/2026 21:54

He's taking a fucking liberty there. I would NOT be happy!

DierdreDaphne · 23/06/2026 21:54

Ooohletsgo · 23/06/2026 17:23

It’s not really funny but it’s not offensive either.

I think you’re being a bit dramatic.

Really?? I think most people would find it offensive, as you can see from the comments on here. So you can't just declare it isn't 😒

PomplaMouse · 23/06/2026 21:55

This is a sophisticated website and us longstanding members will most certainly not be amused at the notion of one washing their genitalia.

Penis beaker.

if its a one off comment then in context of no humans being perfect then otherwise where do you draw the line, eg the next boy friend makes a comment or similar do you dump that one then next etc yes its grim and it depends on context but unless your a robot then no one is perfect, @Datingwoee

There a big wide world between perfect & wiffy growler 4 dates in

ironsSteve · 23/06/2026 21:58

As a moderately feral bloke… I’d cancel it.. it’s not such much that it’s offensive (which it is) but it’s just so lame (far worse crime)

Krevlornswath · 23/06/2026 21:59

Shame it took as many as five dates for him to reveal he was as pathetic and crude as this but it is what it is. Yes I'd cancel. It's not about someone being perfect, it's about the kind of person you might actually want to spend your life and time with and I couldn't possibly imagine someone who says things like this would be better company than simply being alone.

Exactly. Its evidence of someone with very slow wits.

Acg1991 · 23/06/2026 22:00

I'd say it depends how you feel about him in general.
To me, I see that as a clumsy comment of someone who didn't want you to panic about being late and didn't really know what to say to make you feel comfortable, so tried to make a joke.
Do I find it funny? No. Would it offend me? Also no.
Personally I'd either laugh it off or if it really makes you feel uncomfortable, tell him outright and then take it from there.

Back in the pond!

I think I would monitor the situation.

Catladywithacat · 23/06/2026 22:06

He was trying to be funny. Some of the women here will happily pay for a man dinner but moan at a simple dad joke.

Elaina87 · 23/06/2026 22:07

Ew, it would definitely put me off. Id probably give him another chance but he's on shaky ground.

Wow, I’d cancel. Thats fucking minging. If he says that to YOU just imagine what he’s like with his mates.

InterIgnis · 23/06/2026 22:08

NotaHoooo · 23/06/2026 20:59

If i took mumsnet dating advice i would be single forever and never have sex.
Bloody hell some on hear need to get of their high horse and take a joke.

I can’t say I’ve struggled with either. Fortunately, we aren’t all
limited to social circles where this would be considered either normal or funny.

Ooh, what’s a ‘man dinner’ ?? A nice big juicy steak? a pot noodle? Cold beans on toast????

Flowerlovinglady · 23/06/2026 22:10

It's bloody tough for single women now with men who just don't seem to understand the basic rules of civility any more. It's like a competition to see who can crack the crudest joke. If you're thinking it's date cancelling then it is - otherwise you'd just laugh along.

IneedAniffler · 23/06/2026 22:11

So @Datingwoeewhat have you done? Cancelled?

Imseriouslyyouguys · 23/06/2026 22:17

Ugh how disgusting. I wouldn’t be going on any more dates.

LBFseBrom · 23/06/2026 22:18

I've never heard that expression before but it sounds vile.

I wonder if he just heard it somewhere and repeated without thinking. Is he quite immature?

When you see him, ask him straight what exactly he meant and why he said it.
