Would you be embarrassed to serve it at a party?

I would love it but I’m not 8.

Could you show it to her beforehand and she might love it or choose to take some of the flowers off to make it more grown up.

I think it’s great and no one else will have a cake like it.

BruFord · 23/06/2026 15:49

@Livingthebestlife I agree, it looks delicious and that's what everyone will remember.

It's pretty awful tbh. But it is what it is and it's just a cake.

If you can't offer anything constructive with your criticism, you should really keep it to yourself.

Hayley1256 · 23/06/2026 15:52

It looks lovely OP but I probably would change the flowers as I don't think they go. I'd get some smaller sugar flowers in brighter colours

101Alsatians · 23/06/2026 15:58

I love it!

jibjibb · 23/06/2026 15:59

Its clearly a home made cake by a mum with no cake decorating experience but its not embarrassing.

AngryBeyondWords03 · 23/06/2026 16:02

I would lose the flowers and leave the things on the top. The flowers are an odd thing to add imo

Peterdottir · 23/06/2026 16:03

I wouldn't be embarrassed but I'd be worried about cutting it!

FlappyDappyDoo · 23/06/2026 16:04

Lovely cake!

It looks delicious. And cute. Perfectly lovely for an 8 year olds birthday.
If my 8 year old dared to be embarrassed of my hard work and love she’d be getting short shrift from me.

This - shes a lucky girl to have a mum who spent hours making and decorating a cake for her, and booked an expensive venue for her party.

I think thats quite harsh actually, I've known a couple of people who enthusiastically mmake cakes for others, and are v proud of their skills, who don't produce something as neat and attractive as that!

Whoopiedooo · 23/06/2026 16:08

I wasn't sure which way to vote but it looks scrummy. I'd love it.
Kids in a peer group - who knows?
Unless you've checked out all the friends' cakes and done a proper requirements interview with the child you won't know till it's too late. Good luck.

Newyearawaits · 23/06/2026 16:10

Fantastic cake
What's not to like?

LeedsLoiner · 23/06/2026 16:11

To be fair it's probably not appropriate for an after funeral tea...

Redpaisley · 23/06/2026 16:11

No, it’s cute, and I am sure it’s yummy. I love chocolate cakes.

So should you for that matter

CoffeeCantata · 23/06/2026 16:12

OP, it looks delicious and very festive!

But on a general point - can anyone explain the point of this fashion for tall cakes? I see a lot of vids on Youtube and photos of really tall cakes, instead of wider flat ones.

Aren't they really hard to cut and serve? I've seen some celebration cakes nearly a foot tall. How do you serve the slices? Do they fit on cake plates etc etc?

OriginalUsername2 · 23/06/2026 16:15

Personally I’d take off the 8 and the thing in front of the 8, so there’s just two models and the sign - then it would be perfect imo! But that’s just my taste, I reckon everyone will love it.

Oh THAT poster. They always post miserable stuff - I assume they are miserable in their life!

OP should just ignore.

There are some usernames that stick in the mind for the sheer delight they seem to get from sticking the boot in. Yours is the top of my list.

Cakes made with love are so much better than custom made.

LondonLass2026 · 23/06/2026 16:17

What? No! It's gorgeous!

LeaderBee · 23/06/2026 16:18

No, it's fine if you like chocolate?

The frosting is perhaps a bit overdone and messy but it's not even close to being embarassing

Itiswhysofew · 23/06/2026 16:18

Made me smile. What has she asked for?

jibjibb · 23/06/2026 16:21

Its not harsh at all. Its just truthful, There isn't anything neat about it!
Its had chocolate frosting chucked all over it and some wafer paper flowers stuck on and some cheap toppers.

Like I said, its not embarrassing but it looks like a home made cake from someone who doesn't make cakes!

If her daughter is happy who cares? I am sure it tastes fine.

Wow! Did you have to be so mean?! Also it's not just a cake, it's her DD's 8th birthday cake 🎂
