AIBU to challenge the school’s wording about pupils rolling skirts up?

Weekly newsletter today from DC’s secondary school contained a paragraph on uniform including the fact that there have been complaints from the public about “pupils who choose to wear skirts” rolling them up to wear them extremely short. It finishes with asking parents to speak to their children about why this is “not a good idea”.

Now, apart from the fact I assume that they must mean girls, is this not clearly implying that short skirts = making themselves vulnerable and if is, then if anything bad happens as a result it is their own fault? I thought we had moved beyond this kind of nonsense.

I only have boys at the school not girls but want to write to the head to point out how utterly sexist this is. DH agrees with me pov but thinks I shouldn’t write. AIBU?

I think she's a contrarian. Trying to purposely find disagreement and arguement.

Are you talking about me? If so I'm hardly a 'contrarian' to say fine support uniform policy just do so without the sneers, slurs and misogyny. We've had tramps, whores, baboons and like dirty old men flashing in the park. That ok with you, is that how you think we should talk about school girls, hmm?

I'm a 'contrarian' because I call out misogyny whenever I see it. Riiiight Confused.

Aninkling · 24/06/2026 16:34

Can you just confirm what you think a reasonable uniform code would be @Gloriia ? Upthread you said only “no high heels” and no tripping hazard.

but aside from that… skirts any length?

Aninkling · 24/06/2026 16:35

And surely you must be aware that on the majority of threads that you get very worked up about and you are disagreeing with the vast majority? Surely?

I'm fine with calling them that if they dress like this. Calling it what it is.

I don't get worked up, I just stick to my guns and for example on this thread I cannot stand the appalling way some of you are sneering at school girls 'sweaty arse cheeks'.

Yes, who dress normally and don't flash their arse at school

I am NOT at ALL comfortable with calling girls such vile names, @CricketIsASport - it is appalling. Would you call them these names yourself? To their faces? Or do you just applaud others who make misogynist insults towards girls?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 24/06/2026 17:10

So, if someone judges one of your daughters, for a choice she has made, and calls her a slut or a whore, will you be happy with that, @CricketIsASport? If you say it is OK to use these slurs against some girls, you open the door for every girl to be insulted like this.

If only that stopped such name calling.

Nursemumma92 · 19/06/2026 18:01

I agree they could have phrased the bit where they ask parents to speak to their children about 'why it is not a good idea' a bit better.

They should have said 'why it is not appropriate' instead.

The way the girls wear their skirts around here, they may as well not be wearing one.

I suspect the choice of language is schools feeling the need to "dumb down" the language.

Anewappa · 24/06/2026 17:37

Whilst I agree the length of some of these girls is obscene… your language @CricketIsASport is something I’d expect from a man with a disturbing and indeed dangerous issue with women.

are you a man?

you appear to have joined mumsnet just to post on this thread, nearing a 100x now.

Or perhaps you didn’t wish to be associated with past posts confirming you are a man woth… issues

Thing is we aren't calling them that to their face or in front of them. We are just describing them here and expressing our views and they don't know.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 24/06/2026 19:40

That doesn’t answer my question, @CricketIsASport. Would you be happy to hear one of your dds referred to as a whore, for a clothing choice she had made - even if she didn’t hear it?

Dont you understand that every misogynistic comment adds up to a cumulative effect of a misogynistic society where people feel free to call girls vile names. I wouldn't want to contribute to that, if I had daughters - and I certainly do not want it for my granddaughters.

Gloriia · 24/06/2026 19:44

CricketIsASport · 24/06/2026 19:31

But it is what you and some others <now deleted thankfully> think? If you have jobs, friends and family these views will be apparent to all. If you have kids you'll influence them with your sick slurs regarding schoolkids.

Now call me a 'contrarian' again if you like, I can take it but try to learn something form what I and others have tried to tell you. Neutral inoffensive language when it comes to schoolgirls is the way forward.

Anewappa · 24/06/2026 20:01

@CricketIsASport is a man. Guaranteed.

Anewappa · 24/06/2026 20:02

Who either joined mumsnet to just post 100x on this thread or user name changed so that we couldn’t see that a man

You have a disturbing way of describing these girls @CricketIsASport and I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re downright disturbing generally

Anewappa · 24/06/2026 20:03

The skirts lengths can be obscene.

But the way @CricketIsASport has described these young teen girls would indicate a man who should be kept well away from women and girls

I think that we're all trying to establish exactly what you personally consider to be acceptable and unacceptable. In other words, if you have a daughter yourself (or, if not, imagine a hypothetical one) would you be happy if she rolled up her skirt so that her bum and/or underwear was visible?

Assuming you wouldn't be happy, what would you say to her to persuade her not to dress like that, and what standards would you set for her?

Anewappa · 25/06/2026 13:13

I can’t believe it didn’t occur to us sooner that @CricketIsASport is so obviously a man. A man with very serious issues with women
