Noted that Harriet Sperling was at Ascot today .... as the press keep reporting she's an NHS nurse do you think someone swapped shifts with her today. Will her roster be flexible for the new jaunts???

So what if she swapped shifts with someone. I used to shift swap all the time when I did shifts and I am neither royal nor married.

I didn't realise it wasn't allowed.

HBLpsy · 17/06/2026 19:07

Do you think everyone who goes to events in the week doesn’t work? 😂

Pinkchickenwine · 17/06/2026 19:15

I’m am as far from a royalist as you can get, but this is the biggest pathetic attempt of trying to stir up anti royal as it gets!

I doubt she was the only NHS worker at Ascot…

hahabahbag · 17/06/2026 17:02

To anyone wondering, yes she still works:

Yes, Harriet Sperling still works as a pediatric nurse specialist for the National Health Service (NHS) in Gloucestershire.

source bbc

many nurses I know work 24 hours a week either 2 x 12 hours or 3x8 hours for work life balance.

Makes complete sense. Especially as she was bringing up her daughter as a single mother.Nurse Sandie Peggie only did night shifts so she could look after her family and her elderly father (now deceased).

Harriet looked absolutely stunning at her wedding and at Ascot. I’ve no time for religion or monarchy. But I can admire her family values, how well she looks, and how well turned out both her child and her husbands were at the wedding. At 45 she looks radiant. I hope she made the right choice in him, no idea.

(and I look forward to many more gorgeous frocks!)

EnormousGinplease · 17/06/2026 17:56

NO !!!! being an NHS nurse and member of the royal family ... geeze it's not that difficult

What do you mean by this?

I was lucky enough to be there today and went with a teacher (who works part-time so wasn't missing school) Is that allowed, knowing how stretched the education sector is too!

I assumed the royal bride was still on her honeymoon and had factored in Royal Ascot with their time off.

I have a friend who is a nurse and every time I see them not helping sick people I post about it online. It's bad enough when they are doing housework but if they're out enjoying themself it makes my blood boil

😂

Kevinbaconsrealwife · 17/06/2026 19:28

RoniaCheetah · 17/06/2026 16:17

Indeed. A mum friend of mine had the nerve to attend our children's sports day today! And she works for the NHS! Outrageous.

The slack bitch….id ghost her 😂

Whitesapphire · 17/06/2026 16:36

I’m a nurse - I have tons of weekdays off, it’s great. Could never work Monday to Friday.

Thank you genuinely for all you and your wonderful colleagues do….i would have been dead well over 10 years ago had it not been for a wonderful NHS nurses and doctors x

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 17/06/2026 19:33

Presumably she doesn’t work 7 days a week. A lot of nurses need to work weekends and therefore have some days off in the week instead or work longer days and therefore less days in the week.

On top of that there is annual leave/ part time work.

Bloody liberty if you ask me.
Next you'll be taking toilet breaks and dinner breaks.

No we won’t. 😂

gingercat02 · 17/06/2026 19:47

I had nearly 3 weeks off around my wedding, I work part time and have 30 days annual leave, plus BH. NHS staff.
She might be PT, she might work 3 12h shifts (which is classed as FT),she might have worked the weekend and have lieu days. Allsorts of reasons.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 17/06/2026 19:52

The thing about Ascot is the dates are available months in advance to enable booking annual leave, I do the same for an event in our village every year, also NHS worker

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/06/2026 19:57

Indeed, @FiveGoMadInDorset - and it doesn’t even need to be annual leave - it could simply be rostered days off.

I don’t know why the OP finds it so hard to comprehend that, in a 24/7, 365 days a year service, like the NHS, having rostered midweek days off is not unusual.

Wre · 17/06/2026 19:59

I’m an nhs nurse and an absolute princess. I chose not to go to ascot but went to Aldi and the gym instead. I am not a slacker like whoever you are discussing.

Toilet breaks are for losers.

Damn right see that you don't.
It's a bloody liberty. 😆

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/06/2026 20:02

Yup. Nurses should just be glad they are taken outside once a year and walked around so they can see the daylight.

Oh, no - that’s pit ponies - nurses don’t get that.

This reminds me last time I was in hospital one of the nurses used the toilet she didn't even have her mandatory catheter bag fitted so save time that personal body functions require. She even coughed.
Must go to my MP.
Tell you what nidge won't have any of this slacking.

Don’t bother with your MP, report her to the NMC. She doesn’t deserve to be a nurse.

Gonners · 17/06/2026 20:09

I think she should be taking a crash course in Being Queen, because there are only 18 people ahead of her husband in the line of succession. And if they delete Andy (and therefore presumably his descendents?) Peter Phillips will shoot up the ranking. Best to be prepared, eh?

Gettingaggy · 17/06/2026 20:15

I work for the NHS and I get annual leave. Took a day today for my child’s sports day. Would probably rather have used it to go to Ascot TBH 😬

GCAcademic · 17/06/2026 20:19

Get back to work, OP. You’re not paid to have any spare time to spend on Mumsnet!

Not being snarky or bitchy as accused ... merely pointing out the juxtaposition and my somewhat jaded view of working in the NHS.

Don’t you get annual leave?

If you work in the NHS you’ll be aware that nurses, like everyone else, are entitled to annual leave. She got married what, a week ago? Do you think none of your colleagues booked two weeks’ leave for their own weddings/honeymoons?
