Noted that Harriet Sperling was at Ascot today .... as the press keep reporting she's an NHS nurse do you think someone swapped shifts with her today. Will her roster be flexible for the new jaunts???

Not being snarky or bitchy as accused ... merely pointing out the juxtaposition and my somewhat jaded view of working in the NHS.

Do you expect us Nurses to be on duty 24 hrs a day 7 days a week???

Are we not allowed days off to do things with our families??

I wasn't aware when I signed a contract to work part time I was signing myself out of a social life!

RandomUsernameHere · 17/06/2026 17:22

Have you never taken a day of annual leave, OP?

AurielleBaies · 17/06/2026 17:23

lol what?

She’s a nurse who’s got the day off. Who cares.

BeckysNanna · 17/06/2026 17:24

Do you know what juxtaposition means OP?

No wonder the NHS is in such a mess when ýou've got nurses tarting about in their finery betting on horses instead of emptying bedpans and inserting catheters.

I was on last night I am on again tonight, then Saturday night

what I wouldn't give to be tarting around in my finery betting on horses!

ginasevern · 17/06/2026 17:27

@Screamingabdabz "She sends her kids to a £££ boarding school doesn't she? I don’t think she’s a regular bed pan and night shift type nurse, if at all…"

Her family are loaded and well connected, even to royalty. Her mother was one of the "girls in pearls" in Country Life magazine, which is basically very high society and debutante territory. She's being marketed as yet "another one of us". She really isn't.

CeciliaMars · 17/06/2026 17:27

Blimey, she's not allowed a few days off after her wedding? NHS workers don't have to work 24/7 you know. I think she's beautiful and classy and think it's great that a normal working person has married into the Royal family!

My post is sarcastic. Everyone who works has the right to time off, obviously 🤩

I would still rather be tarting around in my finery haha

Weird

Springtimeinsunshine · 17/06/2026 17:39

Dammit! Did a pesky woman slip her chains and is out gallivanting?

May she be rounded up with the other escapees and flogged.

I’m not sure juxtaposition means what you think it means.

it means placing two things side by side to see the difference. There is no difference here. You’re allowed days off on the nhs. No nurse will tell you otherwise.

and I don’t beleive for one moment you work for the nhs as you’d know that. In fact most people who don’t work for tne nhs know full well you’re allowed days off. It would be illegal not to. Yoire also allowed holidays.

if you place a royal nurse v a non royal nurse, there is no difference both are allowed days off and holidays. In fact both get very many days off.

PartoftheBand · 17/06/2026 17:41

Am I the only person who's never heard of this woman?? (Yes I've now googled her)

I knew a nurse who had a day off work once, I was incensed. I thought they worked 7 days a week. Slackers.

Nessiesfoodprovider · 17/06/2026 17:43

She's maybe on a shift pattern where she does 3 or 4 x 12 hour shifts per week. Or she's taken annual leave or has time in lieu.
I can guarantee you one thing though, she's not just bunked off!!!

Me too, I think lucky her,I think he’s quite attractive, he’s clearly utterly besotted with her and she’s really attractive and looks happy. Good for them. I’d also be dolling myself up and trotting off down the races and quaffing some bubbles. Who on earth would be shouting no no, I don’t need a day off, let me work extra shifts! I’m a martyr to my cause! Let me at that hospital. Only the weak take their actual hols!

ffs. It’s utterly inane. And as said, jealous and resentment at its core.

show my a happy attractive woman and I will show you one standing behind her ready to rip her throat out.

SleepingStandingUp · 17/06/2026 17:49

This is the kind of crap that will drive her OUT of her NHS job.

I have a friend who is a nurse and every time I see them not helping sick people I post about it online. It's bad enough when they are doing housework but if they're out enjoying themself it makes my blood boil

Fabulous reply!

I went to Ascot yesterday with 3 friends who are all nurses in NHS. I should have reprimanded them for taking time off, how dare they!

The tabloids just latch on to the "nurse" bit, which is true of course.
Nobody is "marketing" her though! 😁

Come off it. You were implying she got special treatment. All NHS staff get days off and annual leave funny enough.

This thread just gets worse. Imagine nurses having time off and going to an event. I'm writing to my MP.
I may include the word "juxtaposition" 🤣

HelloDaisy · 17/06/2026 17:51

Let’s hope she didn’t bunk off and call in sick as the papers will have ruined her lie 😁

Blueplant · 17/06/2026 17:52

Compared to most working people the NHS has very generous annual leave entitlements....

LlynTegid · 17/06/2026 17:52

The OP was watching Royal Ascot. Is the OP on shifts or someone who only works part-time?

People in glass houses...
