Noted that Harriet Sperling was at Ascot today .... as the press keep reporting she's an NHS nurse do you think someone swapped shifts with her today. Will her roster be flexible for the new jaunts???

This thread just gets worse. Imagine nurses having time off and going to an event. I'm writing to my MP.
I may include the word "juxtaposition" 🤣

🤣🤣

Not being snarky or bitchy as accused ... merely pointing out the juxtaposition and my somewhat jaded view of working in the NHS.

The NHS is a 24/7 service, which means that many NHS staff will get weekdays rostered off, because they are working at the weekend, @EnormousGinplease. I hope this helps you understand.

Nurse takes annual leave shocker

MummyWillow1 · 17/06/2026 17:57
  1. NHS workers get annual leave
  2. Most frontline staff also work shifts, she may have already been scheduled off
  3. What difference does it make to anyone else?
  4. Why are you trying to start an NHS bashing thread?

What a weird way to try and bitch about a woman you’re jealous of with an honest job.

This. Some people bend themselves out of shape to an extreme level to try and bash and discredit the Royal Family. Some people are really invested in them considering they despise them so much. The Royals live rent free in the heads of these people. 😆 I'm a Royalist, and always have been, and I don't spend anywhere near as much time thinking about them as the haters.

I generally didn’t realise that only unemployed people can attend the races especially when you have to dress so nicely. I guess everyday is a school day and I just learnt something new 👍🏻

She's royal adjacent. Peter Phillips has no title and no constitutional role. He does not act on behalf of the monarch.

Yes, only unemployed people. Certainly not anyone employed in the NHS.
Oh - isn't the NHS the biggest employer in the UK?
What other events should NHS workers be banned from, OP?

Why on earth can’t a member of the royal family and an NHS nurse be married, @EnormousGinplease? Baffling.

What on earth are you talking about. What juxtaposition? She’s allowed a day off. As is he. He also works. They can go to the races, or royal events. They are not working royals, neither have titles. And your thread was if she’d got someone to stand in for her. Which was inane. Asking if she’d get flexi shifts for her new “jaunts”

look people would have more respect if you just owned it. You are Jealous of her, a woman you don’t even know, likely as she looks happy, is attractive, has a glamourous life in parts, and is wealthy.

what did you think would happen, we’d all be jealous too so also want to rip her apart. We don’t.

The Duchess of Kent was a primary school teacher. And she was titled.

I didn’t see any threads ripping into her if she wasn’t at work one day.

Bjorkdidit · 17/06/2026 18:05

Blueplant · 17/06/2026 17:52

Compared to most working people the NHS has very generous annual leave entitlements....

There's always lots of vacancies if you want 'very generous' annual leave too.

Plus due to 12+ hours shifts, nurses only work 13 days a month before they have to think about using all that AL.

But its not all good, a lot of the time they are at work, its nights, weekends, bank holidays.

This still isn't what juxtaposition means OP.

The woman is a nurse, is entitled to annual leave and has chosen to go to Ascot. Surely we all support any employed persons right to annual leave regardless of who they married or what they do for a living?

Cakeandcardio · 17/06/2026 18:12

I think NHS workers are entitled to annual leave? At least I hope they are!!

Indeed. She was at plenty of events.

Loub1987 · 17/06/2026 18:14

I don’t understand @EnormousGinplease, what was the point you are raising? Should she not have a day out / time off because of who she married. That wouldn’t alter her employment T&Cs.

Thebigonesgetaway · 17/06/2026 18:15

scienceteachersarefun · 17/06/2026 18:12

Indeed. She was at plenty of events.

She was and arguably had more working days than a nurse.

I am stunned anyone could be so jealous of her, they’d take issue with her going to ascot. How unhappy wpuld you need to be.

Of course your thread opener was snarky! We're not daft, just own it.

And yes, to answer your question, its safe to assume she got the day off if she was at Ascot, or she's on leave.

Very. It's a shame, I genuinely don't know why nurses get such criticism, I couldn't do it, not for their pay and conditions.
Any nurse having a day out at Ascot thoroughly deserves it, and a handsome win on a horse as well!
