Did the new royal bride get today off work

Noted that Harriet Sperling was at Ascot today .... as the press keep reporting she's an NHS nurse do you think someone swapped shifts with her today. Will her roster be flexible for the new jaunts???

OP posts:

Loads of brides take a couple of weeks’ annual leave after their wedding. I don’t see why she’s any different. At least she does something useful when she’s at work - and can enjoy herself supporting British racing when she isn’t.

randomchap · 17/06/2026 16:13

Are you under the impression that nhs workers can't book days off?

PercyPigsAreOverRated · 17/06/2026 16:14

Maybe she had today off anyway. I never worked Wednesdays in my previous heathcare role.

Bundleflower · 17/06/2026 16:15

What a weird way to try and bitch about a woman you’re jealous of with an honest job.

furimosa · 17/06/2026 16:15

Could it be annual leave? Maybe she’s part time, or jacked it in of taking a sabbatical. Why are people so bothered by it?

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 17/06/2026 16:15

I have a friend who is a nurse and every time I see them not helping sick people I post about it online. It's bad enough when they are doing housework but if they're out enjoying themself it makes my blood boil

Stella1366 · 17/06/2026 16:15

Maybe she did for today or maybe she took leave. Like everyone else for the future - if she's going to be a working royal, she'll take leave or go p/t. She might even leave the service.

SweeetFannyAdams · 17/06/2026 16:16

Weirdest thread all day and yet there's been so many contenders.

Indeed. A mum friend of mine had the nerve to attend our children's sports day today! And she works for the NHS! Outrageous.

HoppingPavlova · 17/06/2026 16:17

Maybe she had taken leave for an honeymoon period after stress leading up to the wedding and this is how she wants to spend it? Who knows?

HelenaWilson · 17/06/2026 16:18

Presume she has the same amount of bookable annual leave as anyone else?

She was at Ascot last year too so I suppose she makes sure to get it in the diary early.

And to think we used to clap for these ungrateful people once a week!

JollyHolly30 · 17/06/2026 16:18

You’ve seriously embarrassed yourself with this post, OP

Tigerbalmshark · 17/06/2026 16:18

Very common for nurses to work 3x long days (or night shifts) and have two weekdays off per week (so 36 hours over 3 days not 5).

It is how most nurses with families manage their childcare.

JustMyView13 · 17/06/2026 16:18

The NHS offer paid annual leave as a benefit, which is generally time away from your day to day responsibilities whilst benefitting from full pay. Additionally, as they often work rota across a 24/7 schedule, the rest days sometimes mean they are not at their place of employment during a traditional working week. Schedules are usually provided in advance, as is the opportunity to secure annual leave.

I expect she’s enjoying her usual time off, as she is contractually entitled to do.

Screamingabdabz · 17/06/2026 16:19

She sends her kids to a £££ boarding school doesn't she? I don’t think she’s a regular bed pan and night shift type nurse, if at all…

BillieWiper · 17/06/2026 16:19

No I presume she didn't book in for a shift she knew she would not be there for.

So either she's on leave or working other times she's not doing things that aren't work?!

Similar to every other person in the world who has a job and leisure activities.

childoftkty · 17/06/2026 16:20

Strangely enough annual leave / maybe she’s part time / maybe she doesnt work anymore / maybe her shifts aren’t today

what a dumb comment

YouPromisedToStopPosting · 17/06/2026 16:21

I’d prefer that we didn’t have a royal family but this OP is ridiculous!

It’s not like Ascot just crept up on her out of the blue.

Assuming that she is still a full time working nurse then she’ll have done what every other NHS employee does when they have a family occasion and have booked annual leave.

Peter Philips isn’t a working Royal, he also has a job. I’d assume that (even though he runs the company) he also booked a day off.

If her ex could be loaded, or she might have family money. Or maybe her child is on a bursary (probably needs a review now if so!)

None of our business.

AprilMizzel · 17/06/2026 16:23

Annual leave is a thing in NHS as is shift work or p/t hours are all things for NHS workers despite working for the NHS.

If I got invited to a wider family event of a family I'd just married into - I'd arrange time to go as well.

I was on train for other reasosn round big Cheltenham Racecourse races - train was packed with dressed up folk going very loud and clearly in party mood with huge age range most seeming to have taken the day off work and gone with family and friends.

ToffeePennie · 17/06/2026 16:25

I’m a health care worker. I have most Mondays and Thursdays off. Plus my 2 weeks annual leave each year. Am I not allowed to do that? Will someone tell on me to my boss? (Side note; that bitch is me)

JustAnotherWhinger · 17/06/2026 16:27

Its a scandal.

that said nurses are obviously seriously slacking in general. I’m keeping an eye on my neighbours house as they are on holiday despite the fact they are both nurses… They’re away for a week

Outrageous I tell you.

Fluffypuppy1 · 17/06/2026 16:29

Most full time NHS nurses do 3 x 12 hour shifts per week, so 4 days off to do what they want.
