George’s education costs

Honest23 · 16/06/2026 17:53

Who here would honestly happily contribute to George’s education costs?

Reported to be £68000 a year at Eton.

Why? Is there a GoFundMe?

Why isn't this in the correct topic?

So, so many questions

CokeinBottles · 16/06/2026 17:55

Have you been asked to chip in?

anotherdaytosmile · 16/06/2026 17:56

I’ll chip in a tenner for the wee chap. Is there a link?

MissMoneyFairy · 16/06/2026 17:56

Have they asked you to contribute or are you just wanting anti monarchy responses

UnPetitDunPetit · 16/06/2026 17:56

I don't recall being expected to contribute, but I wouldn't be fussed about my 0.1p per year share assuming everyone in the country pays the same.

Honeyhonay · 16/06/2026 17:56

That’s not how it works. You don’t suddenly have more money in your pocket if the royals change schools.

AwksBut · 16/06/2026 17:57

I'd rather have an educated future king than an uneducated one tbh
William seems to have done well coming out of Eton
Many PMs are ex-Eton, and we vote for them to run the country

What's the real issue, OP

PercyPigsAreOverRated · 16/06/2026 17:57

I haven't been asked to contribute.

I assume you mean are we happy with our taxes going towards this?

As it works out as £0.0017 per tax payer I'm not overly fussed.

MyArtfulGreySloth · 16/06/2026 17:57

OP you need to get a life if this is taking up space in your brain.

The Prince of Wales' income comes from the Duchy of Cornwall, not from taxation.

Edited

I know. But I can only assume that's what the OP was meaning.

LavenderSweetPea · 16/06/2026 17:59

Yeah go on then, he seems like a nice lad and it's less than a penny per tax payer.

NotAnotherScarf · 16/06/2026 17:59

I think that you, and many people forget is that technically the king, his grandfather actually owns the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. We own the land we farm or have houses on at his discretion. Legally, I believe, it's the case that he could take the land away from you. That's the benefit of being related to and inheritance of William the conqueror.
They royal family own vast estates and lots of houses...they have chosen to take an allowance and the majority of the money goes to the state.

Therefore a piddling little sum for eton against the income of just the duchy of Cornwall for example, is just a drop in the ocean.

Randomchat · 16/06/2026 18:01

I feel quite sorry for him and his weird life compared to my sons at the local comp. So I'll pitch in a tenner too.

HumerousHumous · 16/06/2026 18:01

The prince’s education is not funded by the taxpayer, although I imagine there will be security costs, which will be. But his school fees are paid for via his parents’ private income.

mindutopia · 16/06/2026 18:01

I mean, we subsidise our MPs getting pissed on the job every day. Very happy to contribute to the educational costs of the future monarch. He’ll be doing more for all of us than the little scruffs at my dc’s schools who I’m already supporting with my taxes. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The Sunday Times leads with its disclosure that Prince William pays up to £7m a year in income tax, external. The paper says the tax is paid on income from the Duchy of Cornwall, a private estate of land. It says the figure puts him in the top 0.002% of taxpayers in the UK. Kensington Palace says the Prince of Wales pays the top rate of income and capital gains tax on all his personal income.

Newspaper headlines: '£7m tax bill for William' and 'Traitors take their places'

And can you imagine how much higher those security costs would be if George was being dropped off and collected from a state school every day rather than living full time on school grounds during term time?!

Nofeckingway · 16/06/2026 18:08

The cost is irrelevant, it's just a school . Probably won't even bother charging them . I don't really care where he goes . Security would be easier there though .

BogusBargins · 16/06/2026 18:08

Must say, after hearing the excruciatingly eloquent take down of Tronald Dump in King Charles speech, I am all for educating our future king to the same level.

I am by no means a royalist - but people generally forget that our heads of state in effect mentor prime minister after prime minister after prime minister during their tenure as King/Queen…for a mere 1 penny of my earnings, I certainly would rather they’re able to take an educated view on proposed Parliamentary action…

SoSoLong · 16/06/2026 18:10

I'm already paying for the education of the young scrotes who are terrorising the neighbourhood with their electric scooters, and I don't remember being given a choice in it. I'd rather pay for George, although his parents are doing that.

Chimneyissues · 16/06/2026 18:12

If we get rid of the royals we’d still have the security costs.
They’d also be able to monetise every aspect of their lives and be even more wealthy.
It will have zero impact on how well off you are.

Im glad the poor lad gets to go to a school with privacy.

IdaGlossop · 16/06/2026 18:17

Yes, the monarchy is an outrage and has no place in the 21st century? No, I will not be opening my piggy bank to chip in? I am spitting tacks that his parents have £62k (not £68k) a year to spend on one child? Let's get upset about the Lambrook fees for the other two as well? That's £100,000 per year just on schools? Then there will be money for riding lessons, tennis lessons and music lessons? Think how many food bank parcels that money would buy? And while we're on the subject (!), why does Kate have to spend thousands of pounds on a single dress while the rest of us are dragging our arses around in grey, threadbare pants from M&S? Let them live in Decathlon tents on The Mall? The FRENCH had the right idea!!! I'd like to see a gibbet in St James' Park. In fact, I'll go and erect one RIGHT NOW.

Is that in line with what you were hoping for, OP?

ToffeeCrabApple · 16/06/2026 18:17

To be honest as a mum I'm pleased they've picked a local school for him near his home, where lots of his mates from primary school will also be going.

Packing kids off to boarding school miles away isn't great. Let him have a childhood.

Meadowfinch · 16/06/2026 18:23

Look on the bright side OP, the govt will claim 20% of the total in VAT. 🙄
