George’s education costs

Honest23 · 16/06/2026 17:53

Who here would honestly happily contribute to George’s education costs?

Reported to be £68000 a year at Eton.

I think his parents have got it covered… and not even from the Royal Fund

DavidStopActingLikeADisgruntledPelican · 16/06/2026 19:47

I’ve seen Eton described as Hogwarts for wankers. Given some of the twats coming out of there… good luck to the kid, whatever the monetary cost.

AwksBut · 16/06/2026 17:57

I'd rather have an educated future king than an uneducated one tbh
William seems to have done well coming out of Eton
Many PMs are ex-Eton, and we vote for them to run the country

What's the real issue, OP

Agreed. It's not really that important when we have a housing crisis. Leave them alone. Prince William is addressing housing access, George is a child. I actually don't think any member of the Royal family is going to play Charlie 2!

To be honest as a mum I'm pleased they've picked a local school for him near his home, where lots of his mates from primary school will also be going.

Packing kids off to boarding school miles away isn't great. Let him have a childhood.

I imagine he will be boarding , his father did and for boys at Eton that is the norm.

Must say, after hearing the excruciatingly eloquent take down of Tronald Dump in King Charles speech, I am all for educating our future king to the same level.

I am by no means a royalist - but people generally forget that our heads of state in effect mentor prime minister after prime minister after prime minister during their tenure as King/Queen…for a mere 1 penny of my earnings, I certainly would rather they’re able to take an educated view on proposed Parliamentary action…

3 people, none of whom were Charles, wrote that speech.

Zov · 16/06/2026 19:51

Who cares? He's a Prince. Second in line to The Throne. Do you suggest he goes to a dog-rough, failing comprehensive in the roughest end of Wolverhampton?

Daft thread. 🙄

I always find it funny when people say it’s ‘less than a penny per taxpayer’. Ok, fine, let’s take that as true because I don’t know what the exact figure is. However, if we were all given the option to opt out of paying this tiny amount, and everyone said ‘yeah ok’, and stopped paying, the Royal Family might suddenly realise how good they’ve had it for so long 🙄

I really don't think they "have it good".

Would you want their job?

SanctusInDistress · 16/06/2026 19:51

It’s hard to keep up with how much modernisation of the royalty they are doing.

if they were serious about being modern, they’d send them to the local comp.

Fair point although I don't think that matters. It was given by him.

Yes! Barely any hours of work and a super privileged life. I’m not pretty enough though.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 16/06/2026 19:31

George who?

Oh how totes hilaire. You're sooooo edgy. 🙄

Bunnycat101 · 16/06/2026 19:53

Realistically he was never going to be sent to a state school. For one, security would be a bloody nightmare. Eton managed to keep William and Harry safe and I’m sure that will be a big factor in their decision on schooling.

Barely any hours worked?! You've got to be kidding. You obviously have no idea about the working lives of the royals.

Maybe he got a scholarship?

Well BoJo did, so anything's possible!

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 16/06/2026 19:55

So, where would you like the future King to go to school? This smacks of jealousy. Get a life!

38thparallel · 16/06/2026 19:55

if they were serious about being modern, they’d send them to the local comp.

So they could be bullied? Have you seen some of the comments on this and many other threads about how much they hate the monarchy, boot the spongers out and so on.
Imagine the opportunities to be able to say all this to a real member of this family they so despise.
Maybe that’s what you had in mind?
I’m not saying all private school parents are royalists but I guess there is a larger proportion.

How many houses are the in now?

let’s see: the Kensington one, several in Windsor, the Norfolk one, the one on the Scottish estate….and all the other ones that we don’t know about!

what they are VERY good at, is PR.

if they were serious, turn over Buckingham palace and turn it into an events venue, open more rooms to tourism, and generally mske money from it. Look at Versailles, brings in far more than our working monarchy.

Cornishclio · 16/06/2026 19:56

As a Cornish taxpayer I am fine with it. The income comes from Duchy of Cornwall not taxes.

Most European monarchies manage to send their royals to the local comps. In fact, in Europe, private school is for special needs and expats that dont know the local language. Also, my understanding is that Charles got bullied in that school he went to, so the bullying argument is moot.

38thparallel · 16/06/2026 19:59

I dare say that’s true in Europe but it’s not the case in this country.

summerstarts · 16/06/2026 19:59

I am always left baffled by royal threads on here. The petulant ‘well where do you want him to go?’ and ‘get a life! You’re just jealous!’ really do smack of bickering twelve year olds.

It is quite possible to have reservations about a role, which in this case is that of future king of England / heir to the throne. Given all that has emerged recently regarding Andrew I am surprised more aren’t being cynical about it.

The full power of the state is going to be made available for the forseeable future to make sure that George and to a somewhat lesser extent his siblings stay happy and safe and well, with the best of everything. Lovely for him, but purely due to an accident of birth. For the rest of us, it's cuts in public services and the implication that if you need more help, or are poor, then you are a scrounger and probably deserve to suffer. Again, this isn't even due to them just having money, so you could make a case that they're just spending their well earned cash how they choose - it's due to an accident of birth and a bizarre idea of 'royal blood.’

Criticism of this role and questioning over money spent on education role by people who disagree with the monarchy, is the rough that goes with the smooth. It’s hardly on a par with regicide!
