Fluffiest9087 · 14/06/2026 20:18

This week inbetween my 50 hour working week i have:
dentist appt for me
Oncology telephone appt
Water plants for sister who is away. I'll need to go to hers every other day. She's a 15 minute drive each way
Have roots done - the only appt I could get for 8 weeks
Take DC1 to an appt in the day - 1 hour drive each way
PT every day (5am)
DC2 has dentist appt
DC2 has hospital

... how the hell am I going to fit in work ?!

I had cancer, currently on follow ups after treatment
Plants are every other day
Roots & PT - not priorities but I want to give myself TLC

PT everyday at 5 am is NOT TLC. Start by taking that away and get some more sleep. Cancel your roots- do them yourself at home or find a hairdresser where you can get an appointment easier. Plants every third day- they will live. See if someone else can take dc to appointments (parents/pil?)

DameOfThrones · 14/06/2026 20:40

But...but what about her sister's plants?

Won't someone think of the plants!

I mean hasn’t she got fake ones 🤣

NameChangeScot · 14/06/2026 21:30

I agree. Work really gets in the way of life.

Tabarnak · 14/06/2026 21:35

Do the Dc have a father that can take them to appointments?

Why is your working week 50 hours?

CurdinHenry · 14/06/2026 21:40

Needmorelego · 14/06/2026 21:05

But sometimes it might just be easier.
Instead of rushing around, couple of hours at work, then off, back to work, dash off to another appointment.....
I wouldn't want to do that personally.
Week off. Appointments done. Much calmer.

I wouldn't rush I'd take the time it takes.

RosePetals86 · 14/06/2026 21:23

Nope - but the dental and hospital appointments are medical ☺️ and no one should be having to use annual leave for such.

I often use annual leave. Otherwise it’s unpaid

Ilovecoffeeme · 14/06/2026 21:43

CurdinHenry · 14/06/2026 20:32

And 50 hours is in excess of the working time directive

But you can opt out of it.

Reinventedblanket · 14/06/2026 21:44

Water plants every 3rd day.
Ditch a couple of pt sessions this week.
Reschedule dentist.

I know what you mean tho I don't even have kids and am feeling v overwhelmed by the amount of extra stuff at the moment (medical spots, vets, dealing with care for family member, visiting sick people, builders coming to give quotes) it's neverending.

Needmorelego · 14/06/2026 21:45

CurdinHenry · 14/06/2026 21:40

I wouldn't rush I'd take the time it takes.

By "rushing around" I mean essentially clock watching.
How can she concentrate on her job when she's got to stop work every few hours to go to different appointments.
Plus - as others have pointed out - you get paid for annual leave.
Time out for medical appointments is usually unpaid.

JustGiveMeReason · 14/06/2026 21:47

I have to agree that work does get in the way of living your life the way you'd like to.
Just retire.

But seriously - tell your sister to put all her plants in the bath with enough water that they can drink what they want for the week. Totally ridiculous to ask ANYONE to drive 15mins each way to water plants every other day (?!?), let alone someone who is busy with work and her own family's needs.

Can you not share the dc's appts with their Dad ?

Nope - but the dental and hospital appointments are medical ☺️ and no one should be having to use annual leave for such.

Of course people are expected to arrange their dental check ups in their own time. Hospital clinics are different, but you take your dc to their dentist appts in school holidays if you can't use flexitime after school.

CurdinHenry · 14/06/2026 20:32

You're legally entitled to leave for medical and dental appointments for yourself and for time off to care for your children.

Under what legislation? I'm not aware of this and it would be useful.

UndoRedo · 14/06/2026 21:54

Caring for dependents is often unpaid unless your employer has agreed to provide paid days off. I colour my own roots because I can't be bothered with long appointments, but my lunch times are for the gym and other errands.

Crazybigtoe · 14/06/2026 22:03

Cancel two of the PT sessions per week. Use this cash to get someone to run some of the other errands.

Pistachiocake · 14/06/2026 22:15

Ihatelittlefriendsusan · 14/06/2026 20:23

Well you dont have to do PT or get your roots done so there is a significant chunk of time back.

The forecast isnt that hot so you should only need to do the plants every third day of you give them a good soak each time you go.

But honestly, your schedule seems no better or worse than almost every parent going so stop trying to sound like a martyr.

TBF most parents don't have oncology appointments, which suggest she is going through cancer?
Most people I know going through that were signed off at least pt from work-obviously if you're not currently going through that OP, ok, but if you are it is very normal to be sick and tired, and a lot of people at our work have done reduced hours. Hope you are ok.

Huckleberries · 14/06/2026 22:17

@Fluffiest9087 you work out with a trainer every day at 5 am?

That is seriously impressive. I found one session a week with the trainer really hard

Yes, I know that means I don't push myself enough in my workouts!

DungeonCrawlerCarl · 14/06/2026 22:18

This thread has made me realise that I don’t water my plants enough. Surely once a week is standard?

Maria1982 · 14/06/2026 22:21

Rachelshair · 14/06/2026 21:12

Get the kids dad to take them to their appointments
Postpone dental if check ups only
Work from laptop while having roots done
Take leave for your oncology appointment.
Let sisters plants die.
Skip the PT
Sorted.

Love the decisiveness! Wish I was this brisk

gamerchick · 14/06/2026 22:26

Tubes, pot of water. Stick tubes in water and in soil. Plants suck it up. They don't need watering every other day unless they're tomatoes or something.

Despite what people are saying. Don't stop the PT sessions. Only none gym goers don't understand Hmm

I'd stick some emergency AL in tbh.

ilovesushi · 14/06/2026 22:36

Good luck with your week, op!

Sounds like a lot of rushing around. Just do what you can at work without knocking yourself out. Once you start ticking things off, you'll feel better about it. Plan something lovely for the weekend to look forwards to.

bouncebb · 14/06/2026 22:41

I have a garden full of plants and I have never watered them, that’s what rain is for.
They have survived many decades.

JustGiveMeReason · 14/06/2026 22:42

Despite what people are saying. Don't stop the PT sessions. Only none gym goers don't understand

Nope. I go to the gym 4 or 5 times a week.
I think having a PT every day is ridiculous (unless you are an actor / actress working towards a role).
I also think doing it at 5am is ridiculous when you are working and also have a family's needs to sort out.
