This week inbetween my 50 hour working week i have:
dentist appt for me
Oncology telephone appt
Water plants for sister who is away. I'll need to go to hers every other day. She's a 15 minute drive each way
Have roots done - the only appt I could get for 8 weeks
Take DC1 to an appt in the day - 1 hour drive each way
PT every day (5am)
DC2 has dentist appt
DC2 has hospital

... how the hell am I going to fit in work ?!

When was cancer mentioned?

I mean the oncology telephone appointment could be for someone else but I doubt it?

But...but what about her sister's plants?

Won't someone think of the plants!

Well if she doesn’t want to be asked to do this job again, then she knows what to do with the plants.

CurdinHenry · 14/06/2026 20:44

Honestly don't understand why anyone would take annual leave for medical appointments do you live in the USA or sthg?

The plaaaaants!!

They do not need to be watered every day. I was away during the heatwave here and my many many pots survived with 2 days of watering over a week. Every third day would be more than enough.

People take annual leave for whatever they want.
Some people go on holiday. Some people take the week to paint their house.
That's the point of annual leave - to do stuff you want to do.
A busy week with lots of appointments is a perfectly reasonable reason.

sleepylittlebunnies · 14/06/2026 20:54

Why didn’t your sister ask a neighbour to water her plants? It’s the sort of thing neighbours do for each other where I live, water plants, put bins out, feed cats when neighbours are away.

Would a partner or grandparent be able to take the DC to their appointments? Could you get some touch up stuff for your roots and reschedule that appointment for the week after?

Otherwise, would work be okay with you taking a day or two AL or unpaid leave at short notice? Will you be able to work after a root canal? Idk how painful they are.

I hope your oncology appointment is a positive one OP.

But you don't have to waste annual leave when you're entitled to other forms of leave...

ChocoChocoLatte · 14/06/2026 20:57

I have cancer and work three jobs - cancer poverty is a thing, you know. And the Ops diary for the week looks like a fricking dream in comparison to mine, sadly. Except I don't have a PT, and due to chemo, I'm no longer allowed to dye my hair, so no need to get my roots done!

Good luck, Op.

godmum56 · 14/06/2026 21:01

plants that need watering every other day???????????

aurpod1980 · 14/06/2026 21:03

It’s why I work for myself but PT everyday is bloody hardcore!

Fluffiest9087 · 14/06/2026 21:04

I had cancer, currently on follow ups after treatment
Plants are every other day
Roots & PT - not priorities but I want to give myself TLC

But sometimes it might just be easier.
Instead of rushing around, couple of hours at work, then off, back to work, dash off to another appointment.....
I wouldn't want to do that personally.
Week off. Appointments done. Much calmer.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 14/06/2026 21:05

pt everyday sounds wild but if it works for you then you do seem to be able to fit it in. I wouldn’t water the pants every day every other should be ok.
sorry you’re all so unwell needing these appointments! I wouldn’t water try and rope in friends for Lifts if possible

FeelingSadToday1 · 14/06/2026 21:09

OP, honestly, the plants do not need watering every other day. Sister waters before she goes, you go day 3 and 6. Sorted.

Rachelshair · 14/06/2026 21:12

Get the kids dad to take them to their appointments
Postpone dental if check ups only
Work from laptop while having roots done
Take leave for your oncology appointment.
Let sisters plants die.
Skip the PT
Sorted.

nam3c4ang3 · 14/06/2026 21:13

So - how are you fitting it all in? Or will you just be taking the piss with work? TLC - great but this will be leave. The hospital appt I get. Tbf - your diary sounds like an average parents with kids in after school clubs.

TheLightBetween · 14/06/2026 21:14

CurdinHenry · 14/06/2026 20:32

You're legally entitled to leave for medical and dental appointments for yourself and for time off to care for your children.

Not paid though

Chewbecca · 14/06/2026 21:15

Can the DC's dad do any of their appointments?
I would definitely scrap the PT at 5am.
And the plants won't mind slipping to 3 day gaps.

magicfarawaytreestime · 14/06/2026 21:18

You’re not legally entitled to it at all. you can ask about reasonable adjustments for appointments if you have a disability

The older I get the more pissed off I get with work and that it stops me getting anything done. I do see it as quite an inconvenience tbh 😁.

This 🤣

lavendervibes · 14/06/2026 21:19

Are they house plants? Do they need watering every other day? I live with my house plants and it’s once a week in the summer (if they’re lucky!)

FeministThrowingAPrincessParty · 14/06/2026 21:20

Why have you arranged all the appointments for the same week? Or were they just issued? Surely you could reschedule the dental ones??!!

DandelionClockSeeds · 14/06/2026 21:20

Cancel Wednesdays PT session. Water the plants then. Mine are lucky to get watered once a week.

Get the kids father to do 2 of the children's appointments.

What are your official working hours? If less than 50, work what you are paid to do.

Id keep the hair appointment.
Hope the oncology call is a positive one.

RosePetals86 · 14/06/2026 21:23

MeinKraft · 14/06/2026 20:32

Is getting your roots done and watering some plants a medical appointment 🙄

Nope - but the dental and hospital appointments are medical ☺️ and no one should be having to use annual leave for such.

Backedoffhackedoff · 14/06/2026 21:23

Just accept it as a difficult week and catch up next week. Difficult weeks happen. Push through and it’ll be over soon enough

presumably you don’t have to be present in your office 9-5 if you’re out driving people to appointments and outside of that you’ve got an early start with the PT and a evening job with the plants. That’s not that much.

And you need your roots done, we all do 😂
