To be increasung concerned about Restore Britain.

I know many people don't like Owen Jones, but I found this article deeply disturbing.

I am a child of immigrants, and my children are mixed race. So things like this are really starting to worry me.

I completely understand why people are angry at the current rate and quality of immigration (my own family are also disgruntled with it). But Restore want to deport even those who have citizenship.

And I am genuinely concerned that things are going to get worse than Farage if the government don't get a grip on this.

TBF Musk supports green energy subsidies when they are paid to him. He just oppses them being paid to anyone else.

Musk wanted talent visas to support his various business interests and the MAGA movement said no. He used to be a Democrat, but was radicalised by the horror of not being able to protect his son from trans activists.

Well... He's also insane TBF.

He is! Really strange man in lots of ways. But the visa thing is bloody annoying for kids like my oldest son, who is in STEM, as there is almost no industry here anymore. British students can’t even apply for summer internships over there thanks to Trump’s visa changes. I get putting your own citizens first in the job market, but not with internships.

I don’t understand this. If Restore do not want to pay benefits to those who have ILR then just cancel all benefits and social housing for them. Why do they have to go beyond and also deport them? Makes no sense. If it is the cost of them that is the issue, then address that. But the reality is this country has been benefitting from the hard work of immigrants for centuries. The NHS would collapse without them. Now if they want to pay higher wages to all NHS staff so they can afford their own rent etc, then do that. But there is no need to deport people actually working with no criminal records who are contributing to society. Makes zero economic sense.

Don't you get it? They want a foreign underclass that they can exploit and discriminate against at will.

He’s not a Trump and it’s not his job to comment on every deranged zoomer who latches onto his party as the next best thing. They’ll likely have a new favourite next year as the right continues to fragment and they realise he won’t deliver. Everything I've seen is about economics and constitutional structures (re-empowering parliament). I’ve seen him in the Public Accounts Committee and he’s really incisive. Not like Farage, who doesn’t turn up to Parliament or his constituency and seems to think making his jingoistic soundbite constitutes ‘work’. Lowe’s daughter-in-law is an Italian with a Tunisian father. I simply don’t believe he’s interested in ethnicity / race at all.

How do you explain his own campaigns director advocating for an ethnically - and religiously- homogeneous society?
Knowing the US well, this reminds me of the people who supported Trump when he said he had nothing to do with Project 2025 and lo and behold his administration is full of P2025 supporters and very much implementing it to the letter. Politicians will say one thing and do another, what a surprise.

To be honest, I haven’t seen that. I don’t agree with Lowe on the death penalty, but I kind of understand that if you sat through several weeks of rape gang testimony you’d want the perpetrators dead. The scale and horror of what has been perpetrated can only real be described as a war crime. That these girls have then had to continue seeing the same men in their local area must cause an ongoing trauma. It’s all so upsetting.

The girls were utterly failed, no question about that. The perpetrators are absolutely disgusting criminals that need to be severely punished. Death penalty is a tough debate - I personally don't believe the state should have the power of life of death over anyone. I get the sentiment though, especially in these cases.
But what I'm talking about is different: Restore's rhetoric is not linked to empathy for the victims, it's a considered ideological agenda that is being pushed by their donors. This is not neutral. Ethno nationalists and Christian nationalists in the US are powerful backers of Restore. Many of their aims overlap.

I agree with you entirely in the death penalty. I don’t know if you are right on the party’s funding etc. Broadly speaking, I see them as one of many parties. Yes it’s a dynamic political landscape, but ultimately the British FPTP system punishes extreme positions. You have to be a broad church with a centrist gravitational pull to win a majority.

Oh please. Elon Musk’s daughter wasn’t radicalised. She choose to transition and seem perfectly happy with her choice.

He's a terrible father who has no contact with her because he’s too entrenched in his own right wing political beliefs.

I live in France.

Each year for the first 5 I have to prove that I have the financial means to stay, that I am not taking benefits, that I have a place to live that I fund, that I pay my bills etc.

After that I have to keep doing that either every 5 years or 10.

Why should this be different to people coming to the UK?

Have you hit a spare room? I don't take up much space & I'm good with kids & animals!

Owen Jones is truly racist - some of the stuff he's said about Jews are word for word the same as what Nick Griffin has said

Yes he is, but he’s the current ‘right type’ of racist. Anti Semitism is fine, no other racist is. 🙄

Does he not distinguish between the current Israeli govt and Jewish people generally.
