To be increasung concerned about Restore Britain.

I know many people don't like Owen Jones, but I found this article deeply disturbing.

I am a child of immigrants, and my children are mixed race. So things like this are really starting to worry me.

I completely understand why people are angry at the current rate and quality of immigration (my own family are also disgruntled with it). But Restore want to deport even those who have citizenship.

And I am genuinely concerned that things are going to get worse than Farage if the government don't get a grip on this.

Lowe is charismatic in a way. It’s an easier sell than you think, particularly with very limited opportunities for young people

My eldest son and I have always been political opposites, he’s a leftie and I’m right wing … I wouldn’t dream of telling him not to vote for someone. How ridiculous.

Nor did I
Where did I say I told him not to vote for him ..
I might not approve, but he has a mind of his own

Seriously
That's a surprise..
What happened to being taught tolerance at school

Tolerance for democracy? I’d say it’s pretty strong still

They have massively reduced processing times.
Boat arrivals are down on last year
Overall net migration is also down
The benefits available to all migrants are much less than they were

The problem with "smashing the myth" is you are here. People in other countries are there. The UK already has programmes basically anti-advertosing the UK as not as good as the people smugglers say. This is paid for from the foreign aid budget by the way which is often complained about as not helping our own. We could do more to target the people smugglers and more to target (with information) the potential victims of the people smugglers.

The other problem is that, just as people abroad believe mistruths so do people here. labour could cut migration to 0 and people would still complain it was rising. Also, having the likes of Farage/SYL roaming the world telling people the UK is a soft touch and super generous is not helpful to deterring irregular migrants. Hes doing the people smugglers advertising for them.

I accept your points and just to be clear I don't hate anybody😁

It’s not about numbers. It’s all about emotion. Thats what these people do, rile you up on social media.

You had a row with him, which suggests you tried to influence him not to vote Lowe. Typical leftie behaviour.

What happened there is they had a list of possible people to repatriate plus family members and accidentally made said list public. Meaning the Taliban now had a list of everyone believed to have helped the UK armed forces (whether they did or not) and their family and all their info. If those people weren't in danger before the leak, they were after. And arguably the UK had a moral responsibility to the people they put in harms way.
So the calculation was changed from "are these people at risk because they helped our forces" to "are these people at risk because we put them on a list of really good targets for revenge attacks and leaked it". And a lot more people belonged in the second category than the first. And the government didn't even bring in everyone they'd put at risk.

So indeed it was a fuck up. One that should never be repeated.

Edited

I would not at all be surprised if the accidental leak was entirely deliberate.

Those responsible should go to jail for a long, long time, to set an example to other rogues who would seek to scupper efforts to deport.

I also think they should go to jail , and financially pay for their stay there, and hopefully it would ruin them financially for life.

I know, I wasn't blaming you! It's basically that it's as much a matter of getting the message out (abroad and at home) and if posters in the UK believe untrue things about our asylum system what hope of convincing people in other countries

This wasn't about people who could be deported. These were people who had applied for evacuation in many cases prior to the complete withdrawal from Kabul. In many cases they were still in Afghanistan.
I think it's conspiracy thinking to think someone deliberately leaked all the info so that when the people were eventually in the UK they would be hard to deport. That doesn't make sense.

Shit
No I've got confused in what I'm replying to
I was meaning that I thought the release of the names was deliberate,..but no to stop them being deported from here .
I'm confused..I'd not read the post properly before replying.

Jones is a twat and if there was no Restore standing against Burnham then Reform would likely take the seat. As it is this ridicilous Labour Government just goes from bad to worse.

@Charlize43 that needs stopping I've seen that re the pension access despite paying little or next to nothing in tax. Yes it is our welfare system, the benefits need to be stopped and handing out ILR like smarties.

When I temped in an education/immigration type environment, I was quite surprised as the number of immigrants with Italian & Spanish passports who had African birthplaces and now had UK ILR - which gave them full access to all the state benefits. Some were only a few years away from retirement and would be eligible for pension credit despite having paid little to no tax?
Why is there a trajectory to head from Africa to Europe via Spain & Italy with the ultimate goal the UK? The welfare system?

I've worked since I was 16 and am well past the 35 years needed to get a full pension so why should someone who has never worked or barely paid in get pension credit?

Answers on a postcard, they should not.

It's because they speak English in African countries. That's why they want to come here.

Thing is trail hunting is abused, once the dogs get a scent they’ll go after the real thing and there is nothing they can do to stop them. So a poor fox gets ripped apart during a trail hunt and it’s a case of “oops, that was an accident”. They know exactly what they’re doing. I honestly think any human who enjoys the suffering of any animal genuinely has something wrong with them.

@Persephonia1966 For what it's worth, I think Freedom of Movement from the EU has caused all of this angst. It was a bullshit policy from start to finish and it was completely incompatible with a country that had a universal non contributory welfare system. We have shelled out billions in benefits to low skilled Eastern Europeans who we simply did not need to make our economy work.

What is worse, is that highly skilled people from across the globe have been treated far more harshly and have had to pay millions for visa renewals, healthcare etc. Whichever way you look at this, it's just wrong. The figures are astronomical, punitive and give the wrong message to exactly the sort of people we should be welcoming here.

Now, FOM has gone but 8.6million EU migrants applied for settled status after Brexit and the majority are from Eastern Europe. Blair allowing them access to our labour markets when the rest of Europe kept their doors closed for 7 years has been a disaster for this country. People didn't want it, resistance began almost straight away and off the back of it, we now have some very unsavoury political characters entering the field and the future looks very far from rosy. The country has changed beyond all recognition in the last 25 years, the pace and scale has been far too much for any country to cope with. The benefits bill is crippling us. No-one who comes here should be given access to anything in the way of benefits. If these people on the boats can find £xxx to buy their tickets, they can fund themselves when they get here. 39% of UK adults have less than £1000 in savings. We are giving a leg up to a lot of people who have the financial wherewithall to circumvent the system and leapfrog our own poor,. It has got to stop.

If the government don't get a grip on quality and quantity, as I said, we are looking at a Farage led government because people have absolutely had enough, and that includes migrants who have been made to jump through hoops and pay significant amounts to be here, when others have been waved through and handed benefits like sweeties.

Well said.

People seem to also be ignorant of the rules tha had been in place. If you turned up in any EU country, that country has to provide for you as it would its own citizens. Sounds great, but it was working like for like.

The UK has universal free healthcare for instance. It is a myth that healthcare is comprehensively free in all other EU countries. Some have less help for pregnant mothers, some make a charge for the ambulance or a doctor visit, others require a much higher prescription charge or you pay in full for the medicines. There was even a Polish language website advising people how to claim when they got here. We were absurdly paying out welfare benefits to their kids left at home.
