To be disappointed with how soft play handled this man

I reported an inappropriate sexual comment made by another parent at a soft play area yesterday.

I was climbing down from one of the raised areas with my DS and didn’t realise he was climbing up. I said a polite sorry and he replied not to worry and that if he knew his £10 entry included him getting an arse in his face he would have visited months ago. I challenged him and then reported to staff.

The staff approached me 10/15 minutes later to say they’d spoken to him and he had admitted saying that but was ‘obviously joking’ and he relayed his apologies, so they considered the matter sorted.

Personally, I think he should have been asked to leave. He made me feel extremely uncomfortable and could have gone on to say similar to other parents present.

How rude!

Yes, there was no mention of a literal arsehole. Many people don't know what literal means.

Exactly , an arse, is not ops arse, irs a random arse. And your arse covers more than just your arse hole. I jist don’t understand why people write stuff like this, we all know he never said any such thing.

And there is also the whole business of it being clothed, which in most cases takes the hole out of the whole equation.

Admittedly, it wasn't a side-splittingly funny joke, but joking is what we do sometimes to alleviate embarrassment and, given the op had just planted her bum on his face, embarrassment is a not unlikely explanation.

I bet afterwards he wished he'd got in first and complained ...

Very surprised at these comments, so many being ok with this.

A woman enjoying time with her child in a very very child-centric place should not ever have to endure Random Mediocre Man implying, completely out of the blue, that he would rather be paying money to buy "consent" to have her literal arsehole on his face.

Fucking pig, why can't he just focus solely on the time meant to be spent playing with his children? Porn sick loser.

They police our bodies and actions, they think they can comment on even the most thoroughly disinterested women's bodies in even the most unsexual venues. It's not funny or flattering, when so many of them objectify and ( eitherinsidiously or outright) hate us and enjoy our discomfort.

Bloody hell! There is no need to be so rude - this man made a joke (personally I would find it funny) to lighten an uncomfortable situation. You’ve just called the poor sod a porn sick loser and a fucking pig!
I know who is being rude and it isn’t him.

MyTwinklyMoose · 11/06/2026 18:10

Weird that people keep saying stuff like ‘you shoved your arse in his face’. If someone is climbing down a ladder the piece of anatomy that will greet someone coming up is their feet. Climbing down a ladder doesn’t equate to ‘shoving your arse in someone’s face’, it’s very weird that people keep saying this, it’s deliberately placing blame on the OP for doing nothing wrong.

I don’t find the comment is funny either but I think I would have just ignored him, not complained nor requested he was kicked out.

And accused him of saying something he didn’t, so they could then get abusive, like we couldn’t all see what the op wrote he said.

I'd say get a grip!! Complaining over something like that is beyond ridiculous! You must be a barrel of laughs to be around!

TheIceBear · 11/06/2026 18:22

I don’t think it’s a funny joke it’s inappropriate but I don’t think it’s really worth throwing him out of soft play over it. I feel sorry for the staff as well to be honest being asked to intervene I mean it’s not something that you couldn’t just deal with yourself without involving them and getting them to relay his apology. I hate this. God forbid anyone should make a joke ever. I honestly think this kind of thing makes a mockery of #metoo

We’re headed for a time when men will need permission to even speak to women, let alone make jokes. Makes me cringe to think that women can be so self absorbed they would take offence at something like this.

I think he tried to ease up an embarrassing moment by making a joke. I would have laughed out loud because it was quite funny.

It’s funny how the views I got on my local Facebook community page when I shared this last night differ to here. Most were outraged and concerned such a comment was made to me.

If this was a workplace would it be okay to make a lewd joke? Why does turning 18 make it okay for men to make lewd comments to women?

You posted it on mumsnet and your local Facebook community page... I think you probably need to find a more productive use of the time you have available to you in the evenings.

Bamboozle30001 · 11/06/2026 20:16

I'm betting if this man was good looking, OP would have been flattered and laughed.

YorkshireForward · 11/06/2026 20:20

I think this is pretty funny comment, and delivered appropriately it defuses how near the knuckle it is. It definitely lands better if you knew each other, and knew that you would find it funny. Like, if he said it when you two were away from everyone for some reason, that'd certainly seem creepy.
Basically, you have to just have to be aware of how the other person might feel - if you don't know, don't say it!

Well you got the validation you were looking for there. Well done. What are we then - handmaidens ? That’s the usual trope. These days there’s stuff on SM that occasionally makes me ashamed to be female. Your post is one of them. This man was making light of an embarrassing incident with a humorous comment. Why couldn’t you see it for what it was instead of blowing it out of all proportion ?

Not surprising as FB isn’t anonymous so local people will be agreeing with you rather than giving their honest opinion

Edited

I would imagine it depends on whether men come into contact with womens’ arses as standard in the workplace, surely ? Have we really reached a point where women are so devoid of a sense of humour that they would seek to have a man banned from somewhere for trying to defuse a potentially embarrassing situation with comedy ? One of the things I find most attractive in a man is a sense of humour and the ability to make me laugh. Clearly I’m one of a dying breed.

OMG!! Embarrassing, you do realise the ones that disagreed were doing the whole “look at the shit posted on the local FB page”, like we’re interested! Then sitting on their hands to not type “get a life” because they’ll ve identified, and labelled!
