Really Hello Fresh? Jumping on the Pride bandwagon and promoting your high fibre offering to gay men? Utterly grim.

It's like humour is entirely devoid in the right-wing community. Mired in bigotry, laughing not allowed.

TBF, the joke itself is not a million miles away from the type of homophobic joke that was mainstream in the 80s and 90s.

I can see why people who lived through that era are having a bit of a "oh, no mate" reaction. It's the sort of dig a homophobic uncle might make. "Oh off the Pride are you? Hope you're eating a high fibre diet." Smirk.

TheLoneliestSnail · 08/06/2026 11:19

If this had been done ten years ago, there would have been outrage because it’s so offensive to gay people. What the fuck has happened in the world in the last few years? I don’t get it.

AlcoholicAntibiotic · 08/06/2026 11:19

Also, Pride is not just about gay men. That seems to be forgotten in a lot of marketing (including this one).

As a centrist, I thought it was the lefties who usually get up in arms over humour (sometimes reasonably so), because it's some sort of 'ist' or 'phobic'?

The difference is that the right want to tell them it is just gross and reductive and they should do better. And importantly, it isn't funny. It is the left that does the cancelling.

Which is where this company are advertising and delivering.

They're not called 'Howdy Fresh'

Is it? It’s posted on their HelloFresh page, which I would assume is either their German page (as they’re HQ’d in Germany) or their US page, given they have a separate HelloFreshUK page where they haven’t posted it.

Why do you think this targeted at their UK audience and not their (presumably much bigger) US audience? And why do you think they would send messages to their UK audience on a page other than their HelloFreshUK page?

ETA: in fact the associated discount code or BOTTOMSUP doesn’t work on the UK website, so I’m now confident that this campaign is not targeted at a British audience.

A female alternative pun has been suggested in the comments of the insta post.
i won’t share here though, i fear it won’t be well received.

Agree, grim.

Plus that first line, “we know eating might not be a priority this month” not so great for people struggling with ED

Jesus, people really can get offended by anything! What about the anorexics?! What about the color blind that can’t see green properly? That about people who can’t eat fibre at all? What about people who are triggered my multi coloured lemons? Where will it end.

Would HF do the same for women?

I’m guessing the marketing department are out of date enough to focus on gay men / sex and poo

I have zero interest in hello fresh, but i get their ads all the time. Like I have never bought one item of jewellery in my life, and am allergic to perfumes and make up but, yup, get those ads all the time. I never get ads for anything id be interested in. Like, ever.

Is it to do with munching carpets? I mean apparently thats the level this seems to be at. I feel like we are back in the 80s.

Young children won't understand it.

Famously young children love an advert about food delivery services that send pre-measured ingredients & recipes to make home cooking a bit simpler.
I would imagine that 4-10 year olds are the exact demographic for HelloFresh. Saving up their birthday money so they can spend less time trying to come up for new ideas for family dinners every night.

I dont care 😄😄 - millennials are targeted to in this way, we seem to like it 🤷‍♀️

Think 'eggslut' etc

But what about the lesbians? There was no advert aimed at them, who i am sure also use hello fresh 🤔😒😒

It doesn’t say gay men though does it? Thats everyone being a little narrow minded AND jumping to conclusions!

I still don't want to think about shit or anal sex at the same time as I'm thinking about food.

The saying is literally 'don't shit where you eat'.

Only gay men clean their anus for sex. Sure other people would but in pride then it's clear its aimed at them..so weird the advert

They replied to the comment with the eyes emoji, so perhaps it’s coming?

Didn't Nigel Farage bare his arse on TV? Maybe Reform are arse-friendly?

No, I think they might ask what the punchline means.

My 7 year old needs to know what everything he reads means.

It's just unnecessary.

Why is your 7 year old online?

saraclara · 08/06/2026 11:34

Ew.

I'm not a pearl clutcher at all, but that ad is just...ew.

Only when they deem it to be so.
