Harry Windsor getting upset about Peter Phillips

WhenTheDustSettles · 06/06/2026 10:31

Am I missing something? There is a story in the press today about Harry refusing to go to Peter Phillips's wedding, allegedly because he sold his first wedding to Hello (or OK) magazine. What am I missing here - these magazines have featured Kate and William's wedding, Sophie and Edward, Eugenie and Jack, loads of them. Including his own wedding to Meghan. I thought that's just what they do, so what's Harry's issue? Is it that Peter Phillips got paid and the rest didn't?

The excuse given by Harry is something to do with upsetting him about his girlfriend Chelsy Davy. He's supposedly so happy with Meghan, so why does anything to do with Chelsy bother him now?

For info, this is not a "royal bashing" "Meghan bashing" post. It's to get understanding of how these things work.

Is this the Peter Phillips who sold his first wedding to Hello Magazine, allowed pictures to be published of Kate demonstrating that William had let her go alone to meet his family for the first time while he flew to his ex girlfriends wedding, then years later broke COVID restrictions by having an affair and travelling to meet his lover, subsequently breaking up his marriage? Although like the rest of them he probably thinks no crime is worse than leaving and inviting scrutiny on them.

Yep, it is all bit ‘pot / kettle’ isn’t it?

But I do think Harry wins for taking the nuclear option 🧨🧨, and then trying to walk some of it back a few years later. Harry seems to have thrown everyone under the bus, except his uncle Andrew, which is a bit of a head scratcher to be fair

This. How is this not common sense OP?
The whole wedding would have been everyone side eyeing Harry, not one eye would have been on bride/groom, so why on earth would he have been invited?

I agree the simple answer is probably he wasn't invited so didn't go. No one ( including all the self styled ' Royal commentators') know why. Some of them may have been fed stories by one side or the other to make themselves look good/ the other side look bad but mostly it's made up crap. Like all the ' lip reading/ Body language experts who have had some great paydays on the back of it.

He’s a private citizen so he can sell his wedding if he wants. The rest of your post is just moral judgment

Yes he's an absolute idiot. He thought he was something without the Royals. He soon found out he isn't. To be fair, I do feel sorry for Meghan. She is stuck with a useless man child without the perks of Royalty.

Ah the woman who was so much of a feminist that she married a filthy rich prince 😆

As said above, it doesn't take a genius to understand that if you openly berate and badmouth your family over several different forms of media and write a book revealing intimate family secrets and behaviour, that you aren't going to be invited to a wedding where said family is present. This has nothing to do with Hello, or any past weddings.

And of course Harry isn't going to rock up on his own. This isn't like his father's coronation where he can blend in the background and leave again. It's a family wedding where multiple members of his family he has spent years mouthing off about are present and in close vicinity. His cousins wedding is neither the place nor time for him to be expecting family reconciliation.

It’s not revisionist.

I didn’t claim that sleeping with married men led to her death. But she wasn’t some perfect angel.

Of course her marriage was shit and things were awful. but everyone talks about Camilla (who Charles clearly wanted to marry but couldnt) without acknowledging that she then embarked on affairs with married men. She did her tell all book by giving interviews and then denying it.

I’m not saying she didn’t feel justified (obvs the wives of the various men she shagged would disagree) but why do people only seek to justify the actions of those they like.

She was deeply flawed like everyone else.

You absolutely did claim that in your second paragraph here:

He blames the tabloids for his mother’s death but she played a game with them (briefing them as to where she would be at various times, shagging high profile married men, doing the ‘doe eyed innocent’ look etc ) and it cost her life

It’s a really shitty thing to write imho when she lost her life because of a chauffeur who combined alcohol with medication.

And absolutely no one anywhere is saying she was “a perfect angel” except yourself in order to refute it.

Absolutely no one believes she was an angel or a saint. When her marriage broke up she was an insecure woman from a dysfunctional background, in her very early twenties, who’d had two babies in quick succession, and who had been thrust in to global fame. What do you expect?

By all accounts what Diana wanted more than anything was a husband and the security of a happy family life.

Yet she barely had a chance to have a boyfriend because she was plucked out of obscurity at nineteen to become engaged to a man in his thirties precisely because of her “purity”.

I’m not defending her bc I think she was a saint either. Or because I liked her, although
I did like her. And I certainly don’t defend extra marital affairs either,

What I strongly object to about this “Diana as home wrecker and worse” narrative is the deep misogyny and double standard running through it.

First of all it never acknowledges the age imbalance, the difference in life experience, and the power disparity between Charles and Diana. She was initially a pawn in the lives of very powerful people.

And it also neglects to acknowledge the married women Charles was purportedly having simultaneous trysts with before he married Camilla. Is he ever accused of promiscuity? Oh no I forgot! If you are a high status white man it’s known as “sowing your wild oats”.

Also, Charles got to become older and wiser and “respectably” married because he didn’t lose his life at thirty-six years old, a bit of an unfair advantage wouldn’t you say?

Why not mention Prince Philip who had numerous affairs with celebrities and dancers and society women while pretending to he happily married? And the late Queen, head of the C of E, tolerating that humiliation all of her life, which is why she saw Diana as a “bad sport” for “making a fuss” when Charles did it?

The only crime Diana committed in the eyes of the RF is that she wouldn’t keep quiet, and she wouldn’t tolerate the double standard.

What the RF wanted was for Diana to go on pretending to the world that everything was fine in her marriage to Charlies. And presumably for William and Harry to have eventually become complicit in that same lie as they grew up?

But apparently Diana is the only one with poor morals?

If anything, what killed Diana, aside from an intoxicated chauffeur, was being brave enough to escape and speak out, and thanks to Martin Bashir’s lies, not trusting the PPOs she could have been assigned in the UK.

Anarchy99 · Yesterday 16:29

Nobody said she was the only one with crappy morals but she was ONE of them. But people don’t acknowledge it.

The fault mainly lies in the system that meant he was pressured to marry. But she was revered throughout her life and even now she’s painted as a modern day saint.

She did play the press including briefing Morton so he could write a tell all book about her (sound familiar?).

Coincidence that the man she took up with after was the son of Mohammed El Fayed when she knew that would cause maximum controversy?

The Spencers were close enough to the Royals that she knew that if she kept herself ‘pure’, she would be in the running. Aristo families are all about the continuation of the line, she knew her main job was to pop a couple of children out.

Each to their own but if I was William I would be a bit pissed off that my mother told the world that she apparently tried to throw herself down the stairs when she was pregnant or that William had to pass her tissues under the bathroom door when she was on one.

No you didn’t say she was the only one with crappy morals but funnily enough Diana was the only person you mentioned in that regard!

Without, as usual, taking in to account her young age, and the appalling situation she found herself in! Global humiliation at 23 years of age having had two babies in close succession to a husband who didn’t love her, is is not going to do anyone’s mh any good!

It’s likely that she took up with the Fayed’s for the practical reason that they were - supposedly - rich enough to offer her protection. A bit like Jackie O and Onassis. Thanks to Martin Bashir, she couldn’t trust her PPOs because she had been shown forged documents which implied the policeman were feeding back information about her to the RF.

And to suggest that a poorly read nineteen year old, starved of parental love, knew the score when she married Charles
and wasn’t susceptible to the fairy tale of happy ever after, is rather heartless imho.

She was certainly manipulated by her own grandmother, a woman who is described in many biographies as a hideous and unpleasant social climber.

But to infer that Diana herself was keeping herself “pure” to get a chance of marrying Charles is pretty twisted imho. Where is your evidence for that? She tried to pull out of the wedding the night before by all accounts.

Even If she did knew theoretically that most monarchs have mistresses, she couldn’t have possibly anticipated that Charles would want to marry his!

The level of gas-lighting she was subject to was pretty out there imho, with the staff at BP and Highgrove knowing more about Charles’s relationship with Camilla than she did.

She was collateral damage in order to continue the line but nonetheless was respected for her energy, and because she demonstrated a natural affinity for those in distress, and because she was prepared to touch an aids patient without wearing gloves, at a time when they were misunderstood and reviled. Prince Edward is reluctant to shake hands even now in 2026 fhs!

The other reason this fairly recent anti-Diana narrative annoys me so much is because it has been widely reported that it was in part paid for and carefully constructed by Charles’s PR team through a series of leaked stories and articles in preparation for his marriage to Camilla.

Patrick Jephson, Diana’s private secretary, for eight years, spoke publicly in 2017 about an ongoing strategic campaign to boost the then Duchess of Cornwall’s reputation in the public eye ever since her affair with Prince Charles became public knowledge.

“It’s not the palace…but advisors to Prince Charles, who over many years have crafted a systematic, sustained and expensive campaign to rehabilitate Camilla’s reputation and make her suitable to be the next Queen,” he said.

Jephson want on to say,

“This is linked, of course, to a pretty vile campaign to publicise a bogus psychiatric diagnosis that Princess Diana had a personality disorder.”

“This may have cost the Prince a lot of money, paying for PR spin doctors”

“I think it also raises ethical question marks over the methods they (Prince Charles’ PR representatives) have used.”

He wasn’t there because he lives in Merica and isnt
overly welcome in the UK

plus his presence would have caused too much publicity

I always open these threads to expecting a MN prefect answer by post 3 telling OP they are being unreasonable not to post in the Royal threads so this is slightly refreshing! For those of us who love a bit of sleb gossip, H&M the gift that keeps on giving in a world of boring influencers. It is not big or clever, but they really do open themselves to ridicule...

But I didn't ask why Harry hadn't been invited. I asked about the reports that he was refusing to go. We've moved on now though.

The reason is because Kate and Chelsy didn’t want to be pictured inside the event dancing and didn’t consent.

Look at it this way - what else was a ‘poorly read’ aristo going to do? To be a virgin at 19 was virtually unheard of at the time.

The Andrew Morton book said she had said she wanted to keep herself pure for her ‘prince charming’.

Many reporters have confirmed that her people leaked her whereabouts when she was going to the gym or whatever.

Harry is a spoilt little boy who had all the privilege and none of the responsibility. So he whines on to the press at every opportunity. He clearly feels hard done by in life,
