To think no one in the world is actually a 34C?

I have read a million threads here about people being in the wrong bra size. At 60 years old after 4 pregnancies, 4 years of breastfeeding, weight gain, weight loss and menopause I decided I needed to get fitted. I was wearing at 38E (I have big boobs) came out a 34H 🤯🤯🤯. If someone said to me before that I was a H cup I would have cried but guess what, my size 14 dress fits perfectly. It’s apparently ok to have H boobs 😲. I’m officially mind blown. Go get yourself measured

Oh poo.
Off the back of this thread, I just measured myself. I had assumed my menopause weight gain would have increased my back band not just my cup size so had gone up from 30E to 32F but knew it wasn't quite right as I was still overspilling
According to today's measurement, I am a 30H. Now that is going to be fun to find without breaking the bank!

Never been measured professionally. Self measuring, under bust is 32", fullest bust is 36", basically small and perky. My preferred size is 36A balconette style. I used to wear 34B but they are too tight around my chest. I don't need scaffolding or a tight chest strap.

Probably because you are at least a 32 C ....no wonder they feel too tight but the A cup is definitely too small

Bravissimo tried to persuade me I was a 32D not a 36B. However they put me in something so uncomfortable I couldn’t breathe so I stuck with the 36B option.

Same. Apparently I cannot be a size 8 and have a 32 band. I can't bear anything tight round me, so apparently I'm an exceptional low cup high band!

I've entirely given up and just wear bralette type things now

My DD is a little tiny thing. We were all surprised when she measured as a 30E. Have you ever tried getting 30E bras?

Bravissimo is your friend. I have always had a small band size but big cup. I used to be a tiny little thing in my teens too.
For context I am a size 12 and now where a 30H

Sparklybanana · 03/06/2026 15:52

There are two types of british women and two types of british bra shop
One that still insists on using the old style measurements of adding 2 inches, even though when that rule was invented, elastic wasn't a thing. George in asda seems to keep these archaic measurements and it annoys me as I used to look at bra size data.
The other type, are correct. Your under bust measurement is your band size and the cup size is the indicator of volume above your band size.
I would say size 10 should be band size 30 32, size 12- 32/34, 14 -34/36. If you are these clothes sizes but have a bra much higher then measure yourself properly without adding 2 inches. Then thank me when your ladies are much more comfortable!

I was a 30E when I was a student in the 90s, used to be mainly Fantasie back then. There is absolutely loads of choice now. Even M&S does a 30E now!

Sausagedognamedmash · 03/06/2026 16:03

36A here. Seems to be the best band and cup fit for me. I have been measured at a number of places and always been given a different number, even when fittings have been in the same week. So rather than going with what one person measures, I have stuck with what is comfortable, doesn't gape, doesn't dig in, provides necessary support for my non-existent chest.

Muffsies · 03/06/2026 16:10

I've been a 34B all my life so far (from age 17-39), apart from when pregnant and breast feeding. I'm generally a size 10 on the top.

It's always easy for us small boobed ladies, i always thank my stars i didn"t get huge knockers (i do have a massive arse tho).

Mumstheword1983 · 03/06/2026 16:15

I am either a 34C or a 36B depending where I shop but I haven't been measured in years so both could be wrong!

oliviaAustin · 03/06/2026 16:15

I’m a 32C. I’m a size 6-8. When I was a size 12 I was a 32DD.

Of course smaller sizes exist but yes larger sizes are now more common because 60% of British women are overweight which enlarges breasts.

IeatPotNoodles · 03/06/2026 16:38

I wish I was 🥺🥺but my titties don’t fill a b cup

BogRollBOGOF · 03/06/2026 16:40

I wear a 32D these days. The 30 should be OK but is a smidge too snug as my back has filled out from weight lifting.

I wasted my youth in 34As and 34Bs, and my back clearly wasn't that big back then. When I switched sizing method, the new bras made the most of my bust rather than flattening in and losing half of it in the band. I grew up with "D" being big but it's still quite modest with a smaller back (Remembers the Beautiful South song 36D)

When I was pregnant, I went up 5 cup sizes. I remember arguing with a bra fitter in M&S because I just wanted a bigger cup and my back didn't change, but she wanted me to increase back size because that's what the script said. She also said I was getting the next set too early, but I ended up wearing them before due date and ordering the next cup again for the hospital bag. It wasn't sinking in that my body had already defied the average 2 cups rule.

Occasionalsnaccident · 03/06/2026 16:42

Funnily enough I found a 34c bra earlier and thought that can’t ever have been the right size. It’s pre buyout Agent Provocateur so I’m holding on with hope but my back is only 31 inches and I’m now an F cup so that feels unlikely!

MyMilchick · 03/06/2026 16:46

JHound · 02/06/2026 22:31

I used to be for most of my 20s.

Yep same here

snowie75 · 03/06/2026 16:46

34H was a 34J but have lost 4 stone

Legoninjago1 · 03/06/2026 16:47

I am!!

Legoninjago1 · 03/06/2026 16:49

Oh no I just checked - 32C! It’s been yonks since i had a fitting though. Feels ok still.

VividDeer · 03/06/2026 17:04

I remember my mum putting me in a 36c in the 90s because that's what she wore. I see where the op is coming from!

Legoninjago1 · 03/06/2026 17:05

Me too. I wore the wrong size for ages.

I can understand larger breasted ladies having problems getting their bra size right, I know it is an issue for both my sister and my mum. My breasts are smaller sized and it seems to be assumed I want padding, no thank you, I just want something to give me a little lift and disguise my permanently erect nipples.

WearyAuldWumman · 02/06/2026 22:33

I once went into Jenner's (Edinburgh) as a 40C and asked to be measured. Walked out as a 34 E.

My friend got measured there and when the woman pulled back the curtain and saw my friend she said "oh dear, you definitely need help" my friend was wearing a 34H and was actually a 38D

Iocanepowder · 04/06/2026 04:05

Melarus · 03/06/2026 08:57

Hmm, I've never had any back pain or shoulder pain - just ribcage pain from the band digging in if it's too small.

I'm meant to be a 32C, I wear a 34B, but my ideal size is a floppy old 38A which I wear on home days. The band barely touches my skin - heaven!

That’s fine, a band shouldn’t be causing you pain either.

It does also depend on your cup size. Someone with a bigger bust may be more at risk of shoulder and back issues etc if their straps are supporfing rather than the band.

Everyone was a 36B in the seventies lol - except they weren't!

😭👌

This is my problem, too. I'm a mere B cup, but i can no longer wear the skimpy sloggi bralettes of my youth. Since breastfeeding my nipples are like scannia wheel nuts, permanently. If i tried to go braless under a sundress i'd cause a scandal in tescos. So now i'm stuck in wire and padding. I did wear a backless balldress last year, so had to use stick on nipple shields, it was a constant worry that they'd slip off.

On the whole i'm grateful to have smaller breasts tho, it can't be fun to navagate the sizing pitfalls for larger boobs.
