To think no one in the world is actually a 34C?

I have read a million threads here about people being in the wrong bra size. At 60 years old after 4 pregnancies, 4 years of breastfeeding, weight gain, weight loss and menopause I decided I needed to get fitted. I was wearing at 38E (I have big boobs) came out a 34H 🤯🤯🤯. If someone said to me before that I was a H cup I would have cried but guess what, my size 14 dress fits perfectly. It’s apparently ok to have H boobs 😲. I’m officially mind blown. Go get yourself measured

I was a 34C, pre-children!

Just measure yourself. It is very simple. Underbust measurement. Then fullest part of bust. 1 inch = a cup size so 34 under bust with 39 on fullest part would give you a 34E

That is not an accurate way, if you have soft saggy boobs it could come out as a small cup and once you've scooped them in the cup it'll be overflowing. You need to do the Bra That Fits way.

I'm appalled at the lack of bra knowledge on this thread. People measuring 32 yet wearing a 36A..

Iocanepowder · 03/06/2026 08:22

It sounds like you were wearing a band size too big as well. Cup sizes don’t stay the same regardless of what your band size is. So if your band size needs to go down, your cup size will go up. Bra fitting is weird like that.

Iocanepowder · 03/06/2026 08:27

I would encourage anyone not just to ‘get measured’ but to be actually fitted for a bra as measuring is only a basic guide and not always accurate. Different styles of bras can fit different body shapes and material also plays a difference. Sports bras can often come up small according to measuring as well.

Does your bra still fit you as you breathe in and out?

Who knows? When I went to Rigby & Peller, they put me in a bra so tight I could hardly breathe at all. According to people on here, I should be wearing a 32 at the absolute max, but even that is pretty uncomfortable.

Bra sizing is very weird - it seems like the wearer's comfort is the least important factor.

Yes - because it feels better!

Makingsenseofitall · 03/06/2026 08:35

When I have been ‘properly’ measured the band size always feels so so tight it is uncomfortable. That may be ‘right’ but I don’t want to live my life in so much discomfort. Do others find it really tight after they have been measured and it turns out they need a smaller band size but a bigger cup?

bananaapplepears · 03/06/2026 08:35

Im 28G, it's not easy finding bras.

I'm always intrigued about the attitude to sizes on Mumsnet. Clothes tend to be made with more ease now but that's very wrong and vanity sizing and catering to wicked fatties. However the fact we all used to be a C cup but now all wear F as a minimum is not vanity sizing.

I'm fine with both by the way but why is bra sizing allowed to evolve but not other clothes?

Edited

because very often people aren’t wearing a “bigger” bra size, they’re wearing a different size with the same volume that fits better.

It’s also an acceptance that the old idea (done because bras had no give) of measuring accurately, then adding 4 inches, isn’t necessary given then materials now used for making bras.

And an acceptance that when you get measured you shouldn’t be told you are the largest size the mainstream shop (looking at you M&S) so if you’re not.

It’s tricky as the main support from a bra is meant to come from the band. So if that isn’t secure enough, you end up relying on the straps which can cause other issues such has shoulder pain and even headaches if they are too tight.

It took me a month of being convinced my new size was absolutely wrong to get used to it and for bits that had been pushed into the wrong place for years to get back into place.

My DD is a little tiny thing. We were all surprised when she measured as a 30E. Have you ever tried getting 30E bras?

I feel your daughters pain, I’m a 30e as well.

purpleme12 · 03/06/2026 08:49

I'm a 28JJ so I'm used to having proper fittings.

I can really tell when the bra's s bit worn and I'm not getting as much support from the band as when it was new.

Yes I can well believe a lot of people aren't in the 'correct' size bras

Although I think for people who don't have big boobs it's not so much of a big deal for them so they're not at bothered

Hmm, I've never had any back pain or shoulder pain - just ribcage pain from the band digging in if it's too small.

I'm meant to be a 32C, I wear a 34B, but my ideal size is a floppy old 38A which I wear on home days. The band barely touches my skin - heaven!

Fuzzymuddle33 · 03/06/2026 09:14

I got measured as a 30C, had been wearing 34A all my life. Bought new bras, awful!! Back to my old ‘diagnosed’ size.

Bravissimo will have them.

sunnydisaster · 03/06/2026 12:51

32D here

Soontobe60 · 03/06/2026 12:59

I wore 40DD for years then a couple of years ago went to be measured - I came out at 36G! I was amazed yet pleasantly surprised.

HaveTea · 03/06/2026 13:19

I am with you.

After three pregnancies, weight loss, I got measured. Was wearing a 34C but I am 30DD!

Main thing is I feel supported and look much better in clothes!!

StarkandDorky · 03/06/2026 13:23

I wore 36C for years, went to R&P and came out a 32E.

MadKittenWoman · 03/06/2026 14:22

30G here.

pickalillyspooon · 03/06/2026 14:29

This thread has inspired me to get properly fitted, although my 36Cs are very comfortable so I would be surprised if they said I was something different

Oh that’s interesting I wear a 36C.
maybe I will get fitted

ToadRage · 03/06/2026 14:35

M&S had me in a 40GG, I used a calculator i found on Facebook that gave me a starting size of 38L. I went to Bravissimo and worked my way down the cups size til I found one that fit and now wear a 38J.
