My feed has been filled with £50 pillows that don’t squish your face this week. As someone with a permanently creased left side of face I was very tempted, but did the sensible thing and googled and now have an identical one from Dunhelm for £12.50 which I picked up today. And it was very comfy and I woke up without a massive cheek crease this morning! Also I did not give some dodgy Chinese company my credit card details. I bought an actually OK hairstyler thing from Rosie Hair but they enrolled me on the sly in their VIP club bollocks to send me crap forever for £5.99 a month, the cancel button doesn’t work, they respond to cancellation emails with adverts and then ignore you and I had to raise a credit card dispute to get rid of them. Never again…

@MsRinky could you link to the Dunelm pillow please? I would love to wake up looking less like a French bulldog.

The Trinny neck stuff is actually fabulous. I’m a repeat buyer.

I am also a marketers dream - spiraliser (we do use this because the kids seem to think curly carrot is tastier), spinning shower clean thing (useless), Vileda H2O pro (nice idea, frustrating in practice), magnetic eyelashes (laughably awful, though it may just be my method), handheld steamer (just makes everything wet).

What has the Trinny neck stuff done for you please? My neck has collapsed - have tried profhilo but not had much to see for the £’00’s! I can’t imagine any cream can really help that much though (but willing to be sold the dream!)

Petrolitis · 30/05/2026 19:54

Literally anything that promises to make my wavy hair less bedraggled.

I have the world's supply of half used air dry creams, gels, curl moisturisers, curl volumisers etc etc.

The marketers are very much cleverer than I.

I've just ordered some fit over sunglasses that I've been seeing advertised on Facebook for weeks. My glasses have ridiculously expensive quite complex lenses so I only have my distance prescription in my prescription sunglasses which is fine for driving but not much else. I'll probably bite the bullet and pay for the same lenses in my sunglasses as my normal ones when I have my eye test next year but the frustration at not being able to read a book outside in the recent hot weather has meant I have fallen prey to advertising. I am fully expecting them to be crap and/or look ridiculous, but at 2 pairs for £33 I figured it was worth the risk. (I'm going to look like Elton John on a bad day aren't I?!)

Owly11 · 30/05/2026 20:12

I must be very difficult to influence as I have only heard of less than 10% of the things mentioned on this thread. However I did see someone on Mumsnet mention m&s chocolate custard creams and immediately went out and bought some. They were fucking delicious but made me feel sick afterwards so never again.

It’s just improved the skin elasticity. I think. Probably all in my mind but I’ve previously used the Prai which is nice but I didn’t see much difference and ‘This Works’ cream. It didn’t.

Recently was TikTok influenced towards those lightbulbs with a fan that fit straight to the light socket. Now I have an air con unit, but it's noisy and DH complains its too cold (he's weird) so I parted with £12 and ordered it.
Because the main light is right over the bed, and the bed is quite high, I have to say it's bloody brilliant. Nice cooling breeze thats not overpowering.

That said, I'm half waiting for the lights to explode 😂

I too am an advertisers dream. My recent naff purchases have been:

  • jelly under eye masks which slide down my face.
  • Spot patches in purple which make me look like I’ve been stickered by a child.
  • a pineapple gadget which skins and cores it, leave you with a pineapple slinky.
  • a ninja drink bottle which is good for fizzy drinks. Something I drink once or twice a month.
  • a ninja handheld fan with a million heads for the 2 sunny days a year we have in the uk!

Ooh I bought a Ninja Thirsty and couldn't be without it. I drink sparkling water with a dash of strawberry syrup so it's fabulous to take to work and keeps it fizzy.
One of my recent WTF purchases was a soup maker from Amazon. It was already on offer and I'd got a voucher too so total cost was £12. Obviously DH pointed out as soon as it arrived that we don't eat soup and it remains in the box in that corner kitchen cupboard we all have where appliances go to die.
(DH has promised to cook some soup from his home country that I loved when I visited so we shall see come winter...)

See I feel like I should use it today now. 😂

I’d be worried about detaching my retinas! 👀

My husband has these. Sorry to say they look ridiculous! And you can still see the normal glasses under the sunglasses!

To be fair I’ve had a torn retina and the laser treatment to fix it was ok but I’d not love another 😂

In the 90s I got a thigh trainer
I’ve recently had the cigarettes that blow bubbles, purdy and fig (but I like it, healthy metal which I also like and the rituals wild supplements - hated.

onpills4godsake · 30/05/2026 21:40

Also got lemonade dolls but they sent me the wrong size twice so gave up but they solved it and I loved the service and quality

onpills4godsake · 30/05/2026 21:40

Fussy deodorant I got and love

onpills4godsake · 30/05/2026 21:42

I buy my Halara from vinted but I do love love love the work trousers

PorkPieForStarters · 30/05/2026 22:16

I'd be tempted by a pineapple slinky gadget 😄

I remembered another rubbish thing I was influenced to buy - an Estrid razor.

Went blunt after a few uses (I'm not that hairy, I promise!) and also dropped off the tiles every other day, despite me doing all the right things, giving me a number of almost heart attacks when it happened at night or near-misses with my toes when it dropped when I was in the shower. The razor eventually completely broke from a fall. Also so much unnecessary packaging.

I have one of those on the side in the utility room....it's never made it to a loo yet.
My son bought a slap chop. It works but is a faff to wash up.
We have a nutribullet - i won that in a raffle and gave it to my mum who wanted a smoothy maker. She used it twice and gave it back to me. It's actually really good for drinks, smoothies and milkshakes. I just had to buy a replacement blade as it was cracked.
I have a bra on the way.....not sure what type but it kept telling me how comfy it is.
I bought refillable deodorant- love the concept, love the packaging, hate the price and the big yellow stain that was left over all my clothes.
I bought refillable soap/shower gel- can't remember which - only to find the refills come in a plastic bottle? I haven't used it yet as I am struggling with the benefit? And so I am put off!!
I like to use a hard soap in the shower and was interested in the plastic scrubbing brush that holds your soap too - but it costs a fortune. I will stick with my bar alone. Although if someone can create a bag I can hang it in in the shower that would be useful.

@Mumdiva99 Google "soap bag" or "mesh cotton drawstring bag" - I keep my bar soap in one of these in the shower and it's brilliant. Makes it so much easier to hold and is great for exfoliating while washing myself. I just hang it out of the way of the water to give it chance to dry between uses so the soap lasts longer.

Purchases from social media are pretty rare for me tbh

Good ones for me

Sistaco nail powders , only I got carried away and have more colours then enough. Even if I changed weekly Id be leaving an almighty pile when Im long gone

Laura Geller - I used to see this on QVC 30 years ago and finally bought about three years back = LOVE LOVE LOVE it - it seems to work magic on mature skin

From Must Have ideas - the rubber broom and brush - a must if you have cats and dogs - the broom is also great outside . And the Pinkredible sponges - leave my bathroom sparkling and all glass

Im on the fence with Halara, I have friends who have got leggings and say very good, but then I see so much on resale sites NWL - Im weary

As for an air fryer, I wasnt influenced so much by SM , I done my own investigation and I wouldn't be without one now . Rarely use the oven . reducing electricity bill and being able to eat hot food without melting in the kitchen

My son loves the Norwegian socks I got him a couple of Christmases ago!

Nordic socks are the bees knees. My DH bought me some for Christmas and and they warm up chilly feet pretty rapidly. Sometimes I have to take them off because my feet are so hot 🔥

Crispynoodle · 30/05/2026 22:25

Skin and me, Purdy and fig and a blooming patchwork quilting box that I keep forgetting to cancel

Maybe you need one of these?

They also do a draining soap dish to stick to the wall, with three compartments for different bars (I use solid shampoo as well as bar soap).
