AIBU to resent neighbours doing DIY on bank holiday Monday?

It feels like every time the stars align and we all get the day off and the weather is good, the morons appear with their power tools/bonfires.

AIBU to expect them to knock it off for the day so for once we can all just bloody relax? This racket has been going on for 3 hours now and shows no sign of stopping (neighbour with his work bench and drills out)

No I won’t be able to hear anything then

So no difference!

Loop earbuds.

Not noise cancelling headphones.
Loop earbuds - you can still hear perfectly fine. They are specifically designed to reduce background noise, or reduce certain frequencies. There are different ones depending on what sounds you need to reduce. You'd probably be best with the ones designed for live music concerts.

So much for gender equality hey

All the power tools in my house are mine. Stihl saw, impact wrench, circular saw, hammer drill etc @Fizzybluewater

Will happily come help your neighbours @Twisterlollies

I raise you all of the above plus pneumatic drill chainsaw and cement mixer 😂

I work shifts so earlies consists of 4am alarm and home at 3, lates leaving at 1 and getting home anytime up to 1230am. Sundays and BH are a normal work day for me, if on my shift pattern.

Damn right Im doing jobs when I'm home and the weather is suitable, we have built a large pagoda this week. Power tools were used. The wall vents from outside the house to under floorboards were covered over by a previous owner laying a concrete path so the pneumatic drill will be going at some point so we can do French drains. We also have a new path to lay so the whacker plate will be running also. I lost most of last summer when I had hoped to get the garden at least partially sorted as every day I was off it seemed to be wet, so we only got minimal stuff done. I fully intend getting alot of the big projects completed this summer. That will require power tools and will happen regardless of the day of the week, within daylight hours.

I have screaming kids on trampolines outside up to 11pm when I'm up at 4, karaoke that can be heard from the next street over on summer nights that has in the past gone on until 2am, car nuts revving and tinkering, neighbours that have bonfires before 6pm (bylaw here) when loads have washing out, and oodles more to boot. I just get on with life without raging. My shifts aren't their issue.

A new family just moved in next door and theyre ripping the house to bits as it had been unaltered since the 60s. Apologised for noise and I just told them to crack on as I did the same 5 yrs ago and know how hard it is.

Bonkers you think you can dictate who does what when tbh, unclench

If you have a job where weekends and bank holidays are a thing, then you're very fortunate. When I started working 20 years ago, I had to work every bank holiday and that was working customer service for a bank! People need medical assistance, groceries, petrol, people working customer service jobs for tourist attractions etc on bank holidays.

I don't especially like loud noises, but I can't get wound up by random DIY sounds from neighbours during the daytime. Unless you know it's the same neighbour each time doing it for attention or something, why would you begrudge someone taking care of their surroundings? Would you prefer to hear loud music and partying until the small hours every time the sun is out? Perhaps the occasions where you do DIY and home improvements have disturbed shift workers.

You got it and your point is ?
Are you one of the said boys by any chance?

Ah, you got me! I mean why would a cis, straight female have any business questioning generalisations like yours.
Hang on, just remembered, it’s because I’m not an ignorant twat who tolerates sexist comments in a public forum

Trust me you’d be wound up by what we experienced today. Half the village was wound up!

Or maybe they are just getting on with long overdue DIY because it's the first day they've had off in a while because they are usually working all hours to keep the women happy?

Or maybe its the first day they've had off with decent weather in a while so need to get overdue DIY done?

Not everyone has the luxury of sitting back and doing nothing on a bank holiday.

I mean it’s hardly luxurious not to put up shelves or strim a hedge is it 😂

Can’t complain when people are improving their homes, which in turn makes your neighbourhood a nicer place to live. If only more people had the time.

Installing garage shelves does bugger all for our neighbourhood

How do you know all this? Have you sat watching them all day?

Honestly I think some people are either totally unaware of other people existing, or they’re so self absorbed they don’t care.

Or they have work that needs doing and are doing it

Move to France OP, we have no noise rules (also, no neighbours to annoy/be annoyed by), can highly recommend!

Bank holidays are for whatever you want them to be for.

Exactly. We all spend them as we wish if we’re lucky enough to get the day off work.

OP you aren’t the boss of everyone. You do what you want as will the rest of us. If that involves a lawnmower or hedge trimmer, you’re going to have to suck it up. Soz!

Did you ask every single person then do a calculation? You can’t have done because according to you they were all making noise. Maybe it was just you pissed off.
People do get angry when they overheat. You should probably spend more time in the shade. You might feel calmer.

Never met a woman who would know how to use an angle grinder..

You need to meet some more interesting women then.
