Yep that’s been implied by others with eupd.
in fact I was even labelled as behavioural by one of them…despite the fact she had videos of her dancing on tik tok while an inpatient hypricitecal much

Why are you inpatient and watching videos of people that are also inpatient?
Ask yourself that. I wish you well but it sounds like you are really not helping yourself.
Tik Tok is toxic shit. Leave it alone.

Maybe if they know about it they wouldn’t be so quick to detain either? What they get in the assessment is probably a crying I can’t keep my safe the reality is a smiling person making jokes on rik tok

What complete utter nonsense.

RestlessSnail · 21/05/2026 21:04

@H0m3Stay737 I'm so sorry. I know so many autistic folks who have been given this (mis)diagnosis. Being neurodivergent in a neurotypical world is massively destabilising! And trauma should be called trauma, not personality!

I hope your son gets the help he needs.

I work with people subject to the Mental Health Act. In my experience, there are very rarely people who will play up their symptoms and over-egg their situation in order to try and secure a voluntary admission, this is usually because they actually prefer being in hospital to trying to function in the outside world, but it's very rare and I can only recall witnessing it twice in over 15 years.

I can't recall single instance of someone being detained under the MHA when they weren't obviously, and clearly very unwell, however, I have seen plenty of cases whereby a person would have undoubtedly been detained in an ideal world, but due to lack of resources this did not happen, and they were sent back out into the community.

Interesting.

I used to work in an assessment ward, somewhat of a “holding pen” some might say for patients awaiting beds in different hospitals, secure units etc. I’ve seen my fair share of mental health patients and obviously General Hospital staff aren’t specialists in mental health but there are “regular attenders” that quite clearly have behavioural issues and have extreme reactions to being told no to certain medications or even just going out for a cigarette as they are not allowed out the ward without a chaperone and if someone isn’t available immediately then all hell breaks loose.

and then I have seen the genuinely mentally unwell in psychosis or the aftermath of a serious suicide attempt.

I hate to say it but some really do it for attention, for the drugs ( diazepam especially) or as I’ve discovered when they call back after a few days for benefits purposes. They request letters from the drs to send off for PIP etc.
one RA of ours plastered all over her TikTok and Facebook account she was going to A&E to get “ some of the good stuff “ as her GP would no longer issue it.

Whyohwhy80 · 21/05/2026 20:37

Well most guidelines are that
people with eupd shouldn’t really be in hospital. especially people who will enagae in the same if not worse behaviours.

They may well need to be for their safety.

They are patients with one of the highest risks of suicide.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 21/05/2026 21:05

Having a dance on TikTok and being mentally unwell are not mutually exclusive though

Spidey66 · 21/05/2026 21:06

I’ve been in mental health nursing for mor years than I care to remember. Detaining someone under the MHA is not easy. The least restrictive option HAS to be considered.

aside from anything else, years of austerity measures means there aren’t many beds available.

you’re very, very wrong.

RestlessSnail · 21/05/2026 21:09

@XenoBitch Ouch!! I hope she did find out, she needed a bit of CPD!

And if that person refuses everything else in the hope of getting detained which is what she does? Hangs around waiting on car parks for police to turn up.

Realistically who do you think is more likely to be detained the person who tries to Maintian their safety and says they will be safe if sent home or the person who says they will do something if discharged

You have no idea about other people.
Concentrate on yourself.

Spidey66 · 21/05/2026 21:24

XenoBitch · 21/05/2026 20:51

Thank you. There is a huge stigma around EUPD. I have this as a diagnosis, and it is up on my patient record as a big flag... considered the same as an allergy. It says "PATIENT ALERT - PERSONALITY DISORDER".... it does not even say what PD it is.
I broke my foot and went to A&E.. the triage nurse saw my record and instantly accused me of faking it all. I had an X-ray, and hobbled out with a boot and crutches.

That’s disgraceful. Diagnostic overshadowing at its finest. Makes me so angry as it means people’s medical needs are not being met.

ShetlandishMum · 21/05/2026 21:28

Leavesandthings · 21/05/2026 17:13

I suggest getting off tik tok if you believe everything you see on it.

This...

How come so many people on MN think Tiktok and Social Medias show the 'real world'?

Trumptontown · 21/05/2026 21:31

OP, get a bloody grip and focus on yourself, not what others are doing / not doing. You’re sounding utterly obsessed.

I think if you’re in a place in life where you actively seek out being sectioned for your mental health, then you’re deeply mentally unwell and probably do need the help anyway.

Can you really not see why one of these people can be sent home and one can't?

And yes it's shit. Yes there should be more help available for more people. But until there is they have to prioritise.

Whyohwhy80 · 21/05/2026 21:40

TotalBaloney · 21/05/2026 21:21

I’m just wondering why it bothers you so much that they have been? It hasn’t taken anything away from you.

Because when I’m in crsis and ask for extra support I’m often dented it or I even read on my items because I dared to ask for extra support that I was escalating to get extra support. Yet they don’t see it in these other people. Only thing I can think of is because I’m more upfront and say what I think rather than be sneaky and act like I don’t want or need help
