I was furious about this when i read this on Thursday night. Due to other things outside my control yesterday I only went onto the government website this morning to lodge my complaint and saw that they are already reviewing based on the number of requests made (and would let me lodge my request) Thank good ness hey are reviewing - despicable remarks from judge and unbelievable sentencing!

My Mum was raped in a park by a stranger and to this day, she’s hugely affected and she’s 81. Those poor, poor girls.

From the press reports, I don't think the legal establishment have been left in any doubt that thousands of people, especially women, were outraged by the leniency of these sentences. Plus the speed of the response.

I am glad the government is reviewing this, but tbh it says something horrific about their apparent insistence in tackling violence against women and girls.

This is sexual violence. The sentencing guidelines need to be looked at again. They were put in place partly to deal with the attitudes of some members of the judiciary to rape. If they are being ignored or calibrated away from custody then that needs to be looked. Rape should be a custodial sentence given the harm it does. ADHD does not provide an excuse. Neurodiversity is not an excuse in criminal offending, particularly when the evidence is that this was planned, repeated conduct, using a knife and images circulated on social media. That is depraved.

I agree that sentencing guidelines need review, but they haven't changed since the last GE, so this is not exclusively on this government.

I do also think that any time a judge does something like this, his record should be reviewed and if it is warranted, there should be a capability procedure.
