Please raise a complaint about the unduly lenient sentencing of the three teenage boys who have avoided prison after raping two teenage girls.

Ask for a Crown Court sentence to be reviewed

How to complain to the Attorney General's Office if you think someone's sentence is too low - and what happens if the Court of Appeal get involved

This isn't true - only one UL submission is required for the case to be reviewed.

This doesn't have the same mechanics as a petition. It doesn't depend on the volume of submissions made. One form has the same effect as one thousand.

If one form has the same affect at one thousand then why try to stop people from doing it?

bagpuss90 · 22/05/2026 09:51

Please complain - it takes less than 5 mins

Exactly, why should we avoid criminalising criminals.

They are criminals. I's it because they are young? Those boys have a other 60 or 70 years, hie many more girls or women might they rape.

Warmhandscoldheart · 22/05/2026 17:18

BBC news is reporting the Government is reviewing the sentences.

An underpass beneath a bridge next to a river. The wall is covered in graffiti and there is a metal railing along the path.

It’s good news that women have been heard (thousands I imagine) but I hope the judge is stood down and that the sentences are made harsher. I’ve just read the story about the seven young Afghan men charged with rape today. Women are simply not safe it would seem, and I don’t think I’m of a particularly nervous disposition. I don’t think I’m particularly racist either, but we seem to have allowed a lot of men from countries who have little respect for women to live here unsupervised.

OnePeachHiker · 22/05/2026 18:42

Just read into it and complaining about the judge won't work. I'm not inclined to despair but this has really got to me

Mumofteenandtween · 22/05/2026 20:39

A government spokesperson said the attorney general's office had received "multiple" requests for the sentences to be reviewed under the Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) scheme.

On one hand the earlier poster is correct - those forms are for signalling that there may be a legal error here - they are not supposed to be a petition or a vote.

On the other hand - the government is elected, struggling and wishes to be more popular. And we have sent them a clear message that this is something that “multiple” people disagree with.

I was just coming on to see if anyone else had seen the news. I mean it isn't just this forum but I feel part of something today.

I hope someone is telling those two poor girls how supported they are.

Annie2163 · Yesterday 06:57

I’m probably going to get flamed for this but I don’t feel those boys are “children”. I’ve never thought it actually. I think from teenager, so 13 onwards any crime committed the criminal should be treated as an adult in courts of law.

Ereshkigalangcleg · Yesterday 07:08

That’s great news. Well done everyone.

Also every time a video of rape and/or child abuse is shared, that abuse is likely to become infinite for the victim, shared repeatedly on user generated porn sites and impossible to get taken down and removed from all of them. These girls will have a lifetime of trauma and this added burden of not knowing where that video is now and who has seen it and if it’s still online. Victims find their videos on user generated porn sites years after the abuse. It makes their suffering 100 times worse.

Yes. Horrific.

piscofrisco · Yesterday 07:14

The Judge here should be removed from duty. I don’t know how anyone could have looked at those crimes, heard that evidence from those brave girls and given those sentences. I’m glad it’s being reviewed. But it should never have happened in the first place.

hypnovic · Yesterday 07:44

Thank you for this. The sentence will be reviewed. I didn't know that was a thing so thanks

Ereshkigalangcleg · Yesterday 08:04

Even if nothing comes of it, hopefully it sends a message to those girls that people care about what happened to them and think the sentence is wrong.

sashh · Yesterday 08:22

The blackbelt barrister has also been on this.

dointhebestwecan · Yesterday 08:38

This is what I put. - Raping two children at knifepoint on two separate occasions and distributing via social media requires extensive custodial sentence as this puts children walking the streets at serious risk of this life changing crime being repeated as it is effectively being decriminalised. The victim impact statement clearly points out they feel like ending their lives and for the system to collude with the perpetrators in demonstrating the children who are victims are actually worth nothing in our society speaks volumes about the misogyny endemic within the court and I also call for the judge to be sacked as he is unsuitable for office.

I also pointed out the 5.4% conviction rates for reported rapes.

dointhebestwecan · Yesterday 09:04

We all realise, of course, that any of our daughters can be raped by a peer at school and it will be fine for the perpetrator. We are receiving that message loud and clear. We must fight this. It’s all linked to children who are female being sexualised by grown men. That’s the only reason that judge was able to come to his decision. His sensibilities were unable to accommodate the gravity of the crime because of what he has normalised in his private consciousness. We see him and his ilk.

FinchiePink · 21/05/2026 23:35

How many hours have I spent on this, please?

Because I reckon the sum total of my posts on the matter has taken me about 20 minutes.

It is important to me that the public understands how our legal system operates and that they're not being duped into signing something being presented as a "complaint" or a petition when it is very much not.

Patronising the intelligent women of mumsnet is not a good look - good grief. It doesn’t matter about the protocol. It’s a quick sign of support for the children who are the victims. They still know how many people submitted the request. This would happen in any circumstance given no one has a crystal ball to see if anyone else has submitted.

Cherrytree86 · Yesterday 10:04

Signed. It’s a disgrace
