AIBU to think there are still positive signs in the economy?

There is plenty of money out there still.

Now let me add the caveat that I know there are people that are struggling, but I think there are reasons to be positive about the economy and country.

The shops are busy, the coffee shops are busy, the restaurant's are busy, and there is money being spent.

We fancied an impromptu roast out on Sunday, and I had to call 5 pubs before I could get a reservation.

I still think we are a few more years away to see the property market where it once was, but I do think there are signs to be hopeful.

If you live near Windsor, you live in an affluent area. As do I - pubs and restaurants are rammed. But not everywhere is like that. 🤷‍♀️

Good that I am not the only one!

I do get your point, but its probably not insignificant for the people it is creating jobs for.

But who is it creating jobs for? Is it creating jobs for the poster who said her whole family was made redundant??

Good that you’re not the only Windsor resident? I’m sure they’re ten a penny on here!

We are specifically talking about an area doing well.

I’m personally in a leisure based industry and am beating people off with a stick demand wise atm. So of course not everyone is suffering
Im not stupid enough to think my individual observations are a reflection on reality though

Great to hear though!

If a coffee shop or restaurant around here was busy it'd probably be because most of the competition have already been forced to close. They're still not though.

If you read properly what I said was "the nearest place people would know is Windsor." I am in a tiny little village most people wouldn't know.

To be honest you seem to want to fight and be rude because I have tried to post something posotive.

You are of course free to disagree with me, just not sure why you are getting personal.

So one car dealership being done up means all is fine ?! I despair at the lack of perspective

It shows that they’re selling cars, they wouldn’t bother otherwise.

Surely it depends where you are?
Windsor is always full of tourists, so it is always going to be bustling with hospitality etc doing well.
Come to my town. Cafes etc closing because no one is going in them.

Of course, location is massively dependent.

If that is the case, surely we would should be celebrating the areas doing well even more.

That's called the north/south divide and is not good for the country as a whole.

It’s probably Maidenhead or Datchet….

Close, very close - but not quite!

But you seem to know the area.

The UK, along with many other developed countries, has a growing income inequality. The rich are getting richer and the middle classes and poor are getting poorer. You live in an área with a very high average income and a easy commute to London. These people are certainly filling the restaurants as they are in other wealthy commuter areas. The rest of the country is suffering terrible problems including in hospitality.
