AIBU to want my sister to leave my local crows alone?

I have been feeding a group of crows near my house and we’re just getting to the point where they wait for me now in a morning and come very close. My sister has decided she wants in on it but I’ve told her to go and find her own murder as I’ve put in all the hard work with these ones. I told her there is a murder across the way on the field she could do and feed.

this morning I was coming home from shop and there she was feeding Russel from my murder. I shouted at her and she shouted that they’re not my fucking crows, at the point a woman walking a dog walked past and tutted so sister shouted that they’re not my crows and I was shouting at her. The woman just carried on walking but this was right near my house!!

AIBU to think she should just go and feed the others???

I have just learnt a group of crows is called a murder. Your post wasn’t making any sense till I googled it. Every days a school day.

Please - empty out your bird tables until October as per RSPB advice.

I really did feel the absence of greenfinches after the spread of disease decimated their numbers. I love watching themselves so much, but in the end I care more about conserving the species or there will be none left for anyone to enjoy.

I've seen first hand the impact of disease on bird numbers. Enough species are in enough trouble as it is. Better still, get out and enjoy your local nature reserves. There are some wonderful ones near us.

Oh man, i really hope this post is for real.

If it isn't, this is one Crazy Crow lady who'll be distraught.

PS. Crazy cat lady, too. I'll get me coat.

Yep definitely crows, black beaks. Rooks have light beaks.

id love to have some ravens.

Recently stayed in the mountainous peninsula of northern Wales. There were ravens everywhere.

Joy!

I love an owl, too.

I feel like I entered a parallel universe here.

Posters who have named all their garden creatures, one who's training a squirrel army to attack anyone who displeases her, others that say the OP and everyone else is batshit crazy...

I didn't have reading about sisters arguing over a murder of crows on my scorecard for today, but this thread has been the gift that keeps on giving.

@AliceNotInChains please don't ever settle down into a boring life of sisterly love and agreement on everything. 🙏

Our trees have names too - most of them coined by DC. John (persimmon), Fred (prunus), Ollie (ash), Janis (Holly), Bob (silver birch, a singularly inelgant name for such a thing of beauty) and Simon (another silver birch). Hecate is a tall, conical yew and the eucalyptus is Sheila. There's also a sequoia (MT, massive tree), my favourite thing in the world.

There's a noisy rookery in the old beech just down the way. (They don't have names, I should fix this).

I bloody want a bloody squirrel army! (Jealous).

Who is Russell? I'm so confused by this thread

TofuTuesday · 19/05/2026 18:22

I was going to start feeding crows and then I saw them stalking a baby rabbit at my gym. I go there weekly.
I was sat in my car panicking because I wanted to save the baby rabbit but also knew the crows would remember me if I stopped them getting their prey.
i decided to get out my car and slam the door shut loudly to scare the rabbit away.
it was a very stressful few minutes trying not to let the crowd see me watching.

Russell the crow (get it)? Although in this case it's actually Russel. The OP named him and she can spell it how she likes, so there. Now let me tell you about Steven the Seagull......

Jllllllll · 19/05/2026 18:39

Sorry but this whole thing sounds mad!

The world is madder- just look at the news. I rather stick to this crow dispute. I gave OP grief for blowing up her nephew's candles but in this thread I'm on your side @AliceNotInChains.

BOTH OF YOU SHOULD SERIOUSLY GROW UP.

You both obviously have no lives; nothing interesting is happening, so you spend your sad, piddly lives squabbling over a murder.

There are zillions of crows out there for you both to feed.

Bloody hell I always liked squirrels. I did not realise that they were so angry.

TorroFerney · 19/05/2026 19:09

WhyAmISoGoodAtThis · 19/05/2026 15:59

Pathetic!

Have you no jobs to go to? Or are you squabbling pensioners?

Edited

I've a full time senior role and I make time to interact with wildlife. You sound like the kind of person who doesn't say hello to sheep!

Stop feeding the crows. Crows are vicious scavengers who can manages just fine on their own. Encouraging large groups to an area unnaturally isn't a good thing.

Thank you, OP, today I’ve learnt what a murder is.

Thank you as i was about to go and google it, as i too couldnt understand it.

GlomOfNit · 19/05/2026 19:29

OP is totally not BU. It takes weeks and weeks of coaxing and charming before crows trust you - they're really wary (probably because they're so intelligent). This being a social group of crows, they've probably started telling one another stories about the OP by now. To have some bloody arriviste parachute in at the 11th hour is not on. They're not bloody ducks at the local park. Hmm

OMG you and your sister again!

You need some distance from each other.

Probably about five miles…… as the crow flies?

I love this.

ohlookimoneofthose · 19/05/2026 19:35

I cannot believe the lack of loyalty in Russel! If it helps, I find shouting at cheese does wonders for stress alleviation...

No. You're wrong.
There's also been disagreement over a bike in a hall and birthday cake candles. There's a lot going on here. I need to catch up with the other threads.
I'm sure there was an inspector wexford mystery called a kindness of ravens.
Midsummer murders simply must do a murder of ravens.

How very dare you. We are peaceful creatures... when we feel like it.

OneNewEagle · 19/05/2026 20:08

they will hold a grudge for a lifetime and pass the grudge on to their children and grandchildren so you can have generations of crows attacking an individual.

beautiful birds and so very clever.

yes your sister needs to get her own ones to feed or you need one of them to hold a grudge towards her and chase her off.

if you have Russell and Cheryl Crow so far what other names are you going for? I name my regular birds in my back garden.

I used to live in the countryside, wish i still did, as I was surrounded by birds. My fav male black bird would bring his babies to me to be fed every year in the garden, with my dog next to me, so they will learn to trust you if there’s a local of other people.
