To think some older women having tax payers funded ivf are hypocrites?

There seems to be a substantial group of people who are ok with calling teen mums a waste of their tax money but then leave child bearing too late and expect the tax payers to foot the bill for their multiple ivf cycles which costs the tax payer up to 100 million a year.

Hypocrites!!!

Not at all goady

B1anche · 19/05/2026 10:43

How would you know if they are the same people?

Not at all goady

It’s not about nice older women who have ivf just the ones who judge teen mums and call them a waste of tax money and then go and have multiple nhs ivf cycles. Just seems hypocritical to me

I personally know some like this

Do you have a link to provide evidence?

Floppyearedlab · 19/05/2026 10:46

Yet those older women have probably paid into the system for years. Unlike the teens who just get pregnant and expect everyone else to pick up the pieces without contributing a dime.

B1anche · 19/05/2026 10:43

How would you know if they are the same people?

And how can you know they wouldn’t still have needed IVF even if they’d started ttc younger? Or that their partners don’t have fertility issues? I started at 29 and never did get pregnant.

You said a "substantial group".

Do you have a link to provide evidence?

You can google it. You think cycles of ivf on the nhs aren’t costing the tax payer? Do you know how much ivf costs?

Yanbu in principle bit this thread isn’t going to take off because it’s phrased as a rant and people will just assume bad faith.

Basically yes, if people are making a lifestyle choice to delay parenthood then that’s costing taxpayer money. Teen mums, very often vulnerable, get flack for needing any kind of bursary or support as it’s less socially acceptable.

Squirrelsnut · 19/05/2026 10:48

So are you basically complaining about a couple of people you know personally?

coulditbeme2323 · 19/05/2026 10:49

Spiderbug · 19/05/2026 10:48

You can google it. You think cycles of ivf on the nhs aren’t costing the tax payer? Do you know how much ivf costs?

But that's not what you said is it?

So again I will ask do you have any evidence?

BarbiesDreamHome · 19/05/2026 10:49

Why are you comparing women to make your point about teen mums?

Can you explain that thinking please?

Spiderbug · 19/05/2026 10:49

B1anche · 19/05/2026 10:47

You said a "substantial group".

You see it online a lot as well. Insulting teen mums and accusing them of wasting tax money. Meanwhile the ivf industry is booming because of older women

OP posts:
ChocHotolate · 19/05/2026 10:50

A lot of areas will only fund 1 cycle of IVF now
1 anecdote does not make data (although “anecdata” is a good word)

But that doesn't evidence that it's the same people complaining and receiving.

Confused

Do you not think it is resentment and jealousy that somebody has fallen pregnant accidentally and doesn’t appreciate it, when they themselves are desperate to be pregnant, rather than genuine dislike of teenage mothers?

Is it a particularly edifying reaction, no it isn’t, but infertility does weird things to your emotions.

B1anche · 19/05/2026 10:50

Spiderbug · 19/05/2026 10:48

You can google it. You think cycles of ivf on the nhs aren’t costing the tax payer? Do you know how much ivf costs?

Nobody is disputing that IVF is expensive. You specifically said that it was older people who criticise teen mums who are having IVF.

im Not sure what part of this you’re struggling to believe but google is your friend

JontyGentooey · 19/05/2026 10:51

The only women I know who've undergone IVF have done so in their early 30s, after considerable time trying. And none of them have any beef with young mothers, to my knowledge.

Google is my friend, but I can't see any evidence on Google that backs up your claim that it's women complaining about teen Mum's who are having all the IVF.

Either provide a link to evidence or accept you don't have any.

Tsundokuer · 19/05/2026 10:53

coulditbeme2323 · 19/05/2026 10:45

Do you have a link to provide evidence?

And evidence of the costs. The whole thing screams "bollocks" to me.

Tigerbalmshark · 19/05/2026 10:53

Also where are you finding threads about teen mothers these days? There are barely any, it’s far less common than it was 40 years ago.

I thought all the online frothing these days was about immigrants having large families.

Lottie197 · 19/05/2026 10:53

IVF isn’t funded after 40, and before that only one cycle is funded (rest person has to pay themselves)

plasticplate · 19/05/2026 10:53

I'm sure there are people like this but I don't believe it is a substantial group.
Most women don't have IVF because they have 'left it too late' and those who have multiple cycles generally fund it themselves.
