The only people who should never be allowed to use any toilet ever are some of the people who attend music festivals- the portaloos there tell a sad sad story of depravity and lack of civic duty!

Don't ever let them in your shop!

Flashman, saying it wont have an effect on the little is, ime rubbish!

I was at work one day [dental nurse] and a mum came in for an hours+ appt with her 3 yr old.

3 yr old had been asked if she needed the toilet & said no, so we commenced mums treatment.

About 20 mins into appt little girl pipes up "mummy, need wee" Mum said "no you don't, I asked you before, you can wait"

After telling her mum3 more times, each time getting more & more distressed & dancing on the spot I offered to take her, to which mum said that her dd didn't go off with strangers & she was perfectly able to wait [another 40+ mins, mind you].

Little girl didn't last 4 mins, she wee'd all over the floor & was distraught! Sobbing & saying she was sorry!

I cleared it up, but mum didn't bother to get up to change her/help. That little girl sat sobbing for the remainder of the appt in wet soiled clothes! Nice!

If I had dared speak to that child the way the girl did in the OP I would have been severly repremanded! I was only young, but I knew that it wasn't acceptable to speak to anyone, let alone a 2 yr old in the way she did. I was more annoyed at mum not clearing it up, but bit my tongue & had a good whinge to collegues afterwards. NEVER would have dreampt of voiceing such hatred toward a 2 yr old!

milliec, really sorry for your poor little girl! She was treated horribly!

I think I would complain to manager & see what happens. There would be NO excuse good enough to justlify that girl speaking to a child like that!

Next time, make sure your LO wee's on said assistants shoes!

Ah, Luton. That explains it

Flashman, you appear to bear (ha!) a more than striking resemblance to Winnie The Pooh in your profile pics.....

Flashman · 22/06/2008 14:06

To be fair I did escap eLuton many years ago - and don't know my winnie the pooh pics - for some reason I am very proud of those!!!!

Flashman · 22/06/2008 14:07

sandcastles - I meant long term effect - and as you said you would be severly repremanded not def fired??

paperdoll · 22/06/2008 14:28

OK, it was me who first said it could have a lasting effect, and by that I actually meant an effect beyond just getting a fright from being shouted at. I was thinking of trouble with potty training over the next few weeks, arising from having been sworn at and humiliated in public. Did not mean to suggest that she would still be in therapy about it when she was thirty.

I still think that would be a real shame though. But sounds like it is all hypothetical anyway if people are saying the post was not genuine ... [have just skimmed recent bits of thread, may have missed something]

Normally I would say YABU for not cleaning up wee, but under the circumstances I completely understand why you didn't want to stay in the shop any longer. Shop assistant was completely out of order to talk to you that way. I would complain about her behaviour.

However I must say when I worked in a shop I would have been sacked on the spot if I allowed any non-company staff in the off floor areas so you can't always expect to use shop toilets, prob always worth asking tho to get to know the ones that do allow you. Our local NCT produce a booklet of the town shops that welcome breastfeeding, use of changing facilities or toilets.
