Do you let your dog piss up someone else’s bin?

Every week when we put the bin out ready for collection, our ring doorbell picks up the same neighbour who lives round the corner, let their big ass dog piss up our bin. Would this bother you and would you say something?

I don’t let my dogs wee on anything that might be picked up or touched (or gates as no one wants to see a trail of wee as they are leaving their house) as I think it’s rude to the binmen or whoever will be picking the item up.

I think once the dog has wee’d on it once it becomes part of their marking routine though so you could try scrubbing it down with whatever the substance is to get rid of the smell at dog level

It’s up to owners to control their dogs, not for owners to continually having to scrub urine off their property and belongings. There are so many dogs round here, some are walking three dogs. There’s no way they are all picking up their mess and diverting them away from peeing on property.

FlyingApple · 12/05/2026 14:02

Disgusting, dog owners should respect other people's choice to not live in filth.

I have 2 dogs and I don't allow my dogs to go anywhere on others properties including grass. It's not difficult to steer with a lead.

I meant the OP specifically as it might break the cycle

tbh i don’t take my dogs out for toiletting as they have a garden for that and I am conscious of where they go but in most cases it’s territory marking and nothing comes out!!

as with any group of people, some are considerate and some are arseholes

ObligateAerobe · 12/05/2026 14:16

TBH, I couldn't give two hoots about what pees on my wheelie bin. I have more to be concerned about than a random neighbour's dog urinating on an outside bin.

It would bother me that they don’t tug him away from where your property is standing. There’s trees and lampposts to piss against!!

and eventually if enough dogs piss on the tree it destroys some of the bark...

My male puppy is very piddly and loves cocking his leg on everything. It’s such a pain and, apart from
castration, I’m not really sure how to prevent it quick enough on walks except dragging him off mid wee but then he’s on to the next wall, post, car whatever. I’ve usually had females and a previous male pup never cocked his leg. So I’m afraid I don’t care if dogs wee up my bin as im
pretty sure mine does it too

How about walking him so that he's on the side of the road, pull him away if he shows interest in someone's car or property, let him piddle in your own garden before you go,out, get him castrated, if he pees everywhere then other dogs will do the same.

Great post! Common sense really. Let owners ruin their own gardens before walkies!

If only there was some sort of liquid that could come out of the sky at regular intervals and wash it all away. 🤔

If only there was a way where entitled dog owners weren’t twats and think it’s ok to let there dogs piss in what they want 🤔

Exactly!

Noodge · 12/05/2026 17:20

Zov · 12/05/2026 11:07

Exactly. I don't have a dog because I don't want dog mess, piss, smell, shit and fur and general fucking dog dander all over my house and garden. I don't want some other person's dog's shite all over my property.

And no, they're not the council's bins, they're MINE. No-one else uses them, they're in my garden, I use them, and I clean them, so they are MINE. I pay for them via my council tax, and an extra £60 a year to have the green bin emptied!

I even see people (when they think I'm not looking) let the dog piss up my gate post and fence! Keep your dog AWAY - go and let him piss all over YOUR property!

And don't even get me STARTED on the amount of times I walk around the village and the surrounding country lanes and see DOGSHIT all over the place! Seriously, you should have to do a 3 year degree course at University to own a dog!

!

Edited

My course was 5 years, so I'm good to own a dog!
How glad I am to know this.

I feel the same about cat poo in my garden tbh

Cats do their own thing, unplug though it is! Adults aren’t in control of them as with dogs

scoopsahoooy · 12/05/2026 17:25

I don't have a dog but having walked my sister's, I'm not sure how you could stop them? They just do it randomly don't they?! Or have I been committing dog walking crimes...

Still gross though

abracadabra1980 · 12/05/2026 17:37

I don't see the problem really-I get my bin sanitised every month. It's enough. Got better things to be concerned about.

You steer them away from the walls, bins etc, walk them on the outer side. You don’t stand there looking in the opposite direction while they foul people’s property- not difficult, plus you let them pee/poo in your own garden before going for a walk, and not use the property of others for their toilet, but that’s unpleasant isn’t it?

Do dogs pee up your walls/fence and on your lawn continually? No? That's ok, then!

I meant unpleasant, not unplug. Too late to edit!

Flamingojune · 12/05/2026 17:42

I thought dogs pissed where other dogs pissed so bleaching it should break the cycle maybe?

Apparently dogs like the smell of bleach! Citrussy things and vinegar are meant to deter them , but very little does. Why should I have to spend time cleaning up after them anyway?

Yeah but from my perspective, I still have to deal with picking up shit in my garden every morning because someone else has decided to keep a pet that they can’t control the toileting of.

Apparently that’s nowhere near as disgusting as a dog pee on a bin. Shit in my garden but for the love of god don’t touch my bin.
